Who's the idiot who shouted out "I wish you were my boyfriend" at 2:33? I almost died cringing! I bet Chiba was off to the side of the stage and laughed her tits off at the silly girl who said that.
And to think David wrote the piano/organ part on a Yamaha DX7. Such a timeless song holding up in a different arrangement, as achingly beautiful as the album version.
He played himself Didn't need me to give him hell He could be cool and cruel to you and me Knew we'd put up with anything I wanna hurt him I wanna give him pain I'm a Roman candle My head is full of flames I'm hallucinating, hallucinating I hear you cry Your tears are cheap Wet hot red swollen cheeks Fall asleep I wanna hurt him I wanna give him pain I'm a Roman candle My head is full of flames I wanna hurt him I wanna hurt him I wanna hurt him I wanna give him pain Make him feel this pretty burn
There are many people who say they’d love the limelight but I think very few understand what it would be like doing 5 interviews a day, meeting with fans and then performing a show. That private time just gets shrunk down to nothing. Soul just withers. Elliott Smith was another example of this type of artist. The other artists who appear good with fame are usually just good at faking it real well. Hope can’t fake it. As fans, it seems we can’t just appreciate the art. We have to know every living detail of the creator until we are satiated. These questions that are asked are mostly pointless to the art itself.
"It may be ‘bias’ but I talked to a neighbor who lived next to Chiba for more than a decade (he got to know her as you can imagine) and then moved to the unit below hers after Elliott’s death. Chiba and Robin(the drummer in this video) were living together at the time according to this person and sleeping together. Robin is a jerk who was also seen with Chiba packing stuff in a car at Elliott’s studio just two nights after Elliott’s death."
I was there! My then girlfriend Mary and I arrived late and bribed the bouncer with a tenner and he let us in. It was magical, we sat on the floor while Hope sang. I had no idea it was their last tour for so long. Ah, to be young again! I loved discovering this, thanks.
