Hey, thank you for the feedback Eddie and yes, I think you might be right. I have not used it as much in that range as I thought I would so I have not spent much time thinking about it but it will not hurt if I calibrate it. Do you print your work ? Would love more videos about printing and how to make money selling prints

Hello and thank you for leaving your question! I used to print my work but now that my website is up and running under more formal means, I have a professional printing shop that takes care of that for me. That said, I am thinking of starting my printing at home again. I want to start offering a monthly free print to all my followers, based on a random process and it might be easier if I just print at home, mat and sign each print. I use an Epson SureColor P800 and I LOVE the quality of that machine. I love your idea of producing videos on printing and selling prints. My workbench is currently full of paperwork :-) but in about three weeks, the space will free up for matting prints. I'll need to order about $600 worth of ink, another small fortune for about 25 mats, and shipping materials but if you give me until end of March, I should be ready to start producing videos on printing. I'll focus on: - Printer settings - A review of the Epson P800 - Matting your own work - Pricing and selling Let me know if this covers the topics you are interested in and thanks again for expressing your interest. I've got your back, just give me a few weeks. Have a great weekend and hope to hear back from you again.

I appreciate your feedback my friend and I am glad your found the video entertaining! You are absolutely correct. I think we sometimes get stuck thinking about the things we lack and how if we had this or if we had that, we could do so much more or do it better. Sometimes, we just need to start. As Nike might say...Just Do It! We already know this but it's nice to see a reminder now and then. That is the reason for this type of video. To remind myself and people like me. Take care of yourself and hope to see you back here again soon. Have a great weekend.

Thank you for your feedback! I greatly appreciate it. I think we all love shooting different things and different equipment suits us, depending on our needs. Digital photography has made amazing strides over the past decade and even more with mirrorless cameras. But not everyone needs 30 frames per second and super fast focus. When I am walking around looking for interesting subjects, I like to slow down and enjoy film much more. I also feel a bit more satisfaction when a film shot turns out good. Keep shooting film and enjoy yourself. That is why we do it at the end of the day! Have a great weekend.

If we had trouble before telling if we were being lied to or not, the coming years are going to surprise us, I think. Hello Harold. Thank you for your feedback and comments. I'll search for that Kodak facility series of videos. I was just telling another person that it really depends on a photographer's needs. I love shooting film and will probably never stop shooting it. There are times however that I am chasing airplanes or fast cars and it is during those times that I appreciate the advancements of technology. For most of us, and me in particular, a slow process is sufficient. I walk around with my camera looking for nice things to shoot and I rarely need crazy speed. Both digital and film work for me and I wake up feeling one more than the other sometimes. I don't like heavy editing during digital shoots but occasionally, I do play around for special effects. The important thing is, do what you love and enjoy yourself doing it. Hope to see you around here again soon.

Umm I will say this.. I was able to shoot really nice photos on a 400 dollar Canon T7 "IF" I edited the photos.. I found the noise and color rendering was ehhh... But as I have spent more on higher end gear and now shoot with GFX Camera my editing has become MUCH faster as the RAW images are sooooo much cleaner and just outright better to start with. Just add a touch of contrast and saturation and boom pretty much done.. I find the images that required less editing to be much better quality to be honest. And of course much more rewarding knowing that I managed to get the photos a whole lot better just using better gear and knowing how to use it better then spending tons of time trying to fix a bad image :). So better gear and better knowledge to use the gear properly often gives you a better image to start with :).. So yeah I guess I am one of those that is on the side of the fence that edits some if needed to clean up something funny but otherwise strides to get better photos strait from the camera instead :)

@juanlondonophotography 5 месяцев назад
Hi Jennifer! Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts. Yes, better gear makes many things easier for us as photographers, editing included. I will often pull out an older camera when I want a higher grain "feel" or =I might even pull out a film camera and shoot 800 ISO. For everything else, I shoot newer digital gear. I will never give up film but even in film, 100 ISO is amazingly clean. My GFX100S is brilliant and I may end up taking it with me to my grave. Let's hope not too soon! :-) Take care of yourself and I hope to see you around here soon. Stop by my instagram site and I will follow you back.

To be honest, I think fuji lenses are really cheap for what is it. But sometimes I hope they make faster glass cause I'm willing to pay a bit more. Like the 110 F2, if they make it 110 F1.7, will be more than willing to buy it because that's the lens I use the most.
@juanlondonophotography
@juanlondonophotography Год назад
I know what you mean. At the end of the day, it's all relative. We pay more for them but we get so much technology. The sharpness and clarity is unmatched. Remember that on a large format sensor like the one in our GFX system, we multiply the lenses by 0.79 (or 0.8 for simplicity) in order to get the 35mm equivalent. So, your 110mm lens acts like an 88mm lens; a wonderful focal length for portraiture and other photography. But also, we need to multiply the aperture by the same factor. So, f2 actually becomes more like 1.6 in 35mm terms. Therefore, our 110mm f2 behaves the same as an 88mm f1.6 would on a 35mm camera. For this reason, I think they stop at f2 for that lens. Going lower means much more money (not just a little) and it means more weight and a larger diameter. And you know many people would complain about that :-). I am not crazy about the f4 lenses like my 32-64mm. I do wish that was faster, but then we are back to the same argument. Either way, enjoy your photography and stay in touch. I really appreciate the feedback and insight. Take care of yourself. - juan

I really enjoyed your talk today. I agree with a lot of what you said. I have a Canon 5DRS which is 50 mp and I love it. It has the EF mount so I do not want to change that. With that said I am looking at a new Canon camera and realize that it will have the RF mount but the adapter will work with my EF lenses so I'm not concerned. I would love the R5 but it is expensive so I have been looking at the R7. I have a problem with manual focus lens were I can not get a clear focus (my eyes don't always tell me the true) With the 5DRS in manual mode I can get a focus area multiplied by a factor of 16 and that is a hugh help. Also the R7 does some very nice things (like in camera focus stacking and in camera panos). I don't do a lot of video so a heat issue is of no concern. So would I get a n RF lens? Probably not as whatever I get must work on both cameras. With all that said I think you have some very valid remarks. Keep it simple and trueful.
@juanlondonophotography
@juanlondonophotography Год назад
Thank you, my friend. I really enjoy your feedback and your insight. Some people seem to have a problem with crop sensors but the truth is, it really just depends on what we are planning to shoot. For nature and wildlife, a crop sensor is ideal. I have heard that many of the EF lenses are working flawlessly on the R6 and R5 so that is great news. No need to get RF glass unless you start climbing above the 50MP count. At that point, in order to resolve say 100MP, the lens will need to be much better, and that is what RF glass is made for and why it costs so much. But again, if you are shooting portraits and stuff for fun, endless sharpness is not necessary. Especially with zoom focus and focus peaking available on the new digital cameras. Helps my poor eyes a great deal too. Let me know what you end up doing and enjoy your weekend if we don't speak soon Bernard!

If you want to have some fun try hand holding this with one hand and yes it can be done and it isn't the easiest thing but is doable. I very seldom shoot at anything less than 150 mm but I do shoot at 600 mm with a 1.4x and a 2x on it with a bi-pod or a tripod. But that is why I bought it. Hiking with a camera and this lens and a 20 lb tripod is interesting but I love this lens.

Hi Bernard, Thank you for your insight and perspective. I never looked at it from that angle and I agree, that would be interesting, to say the least. Kudos to you for signing up to this task. Hiking with this lens alone is a mission impossible. Add a camera and a hefty tripod (which you will need for this beast), and you are talking about a complete workout; cardio and all. I love it as well and I grow more and more fond of it the more I use it. I mostly use my 70-200mm f2.8 when I go flower shooting from a distance (water lilies) but I took this one with me a couple of weeks ago and got stunning images. the biggest problem with that 150-600mm C is the AF it is really not that good, I had this lens for 2 years and now that i'm getting ""pro"" this lac of AF make it a big deal breaker (for me at least) and the fact that the contemporary is not compatible with canon hybrid BIFF is hard to consider having it for a long period of time, especially with the new canon R7, so in the future I think that this 60-600mm is better for what she offert even if her price is way more expensive

Hi Albas and thank you so much for your comment. I agree with you wholeheartedly. Sometimes, paying a little more (which I avoid if I can), makes more sense, especially when the more affordable equipment just doesn't cut it anymore. This happens to many of my students. They arrive on the first day with a kit lens and by the end of the 12th class, they feel restricted and go out looking for a 24-70 f2.8 :-) No doubt as you get better, you will require more from your equipment. Good luck moving into that 60-600mm. Let me know when you buy it and what you think!

Really like your review style and the content of this review - it is very comprehensive and detailed. Thank you! I hope you will forgive my wordy response... I started my photographic career 40 years ago, and I shoot mostly wildlife. Now that I am living in NZ, that means birds. Some of them can be approached very close and others need to be shot at distance, so the focal range of this lens is great for me. I have had this lens for a couple of years. I added it to my Sigma 150-600c and other Canon natives, and each has its own strengths. Weight: I shoot 99% hand-held and, to use it and my other heavy gear, I train for it. I am almost 70, and I do weights most days of the week - which not only helps me have the strength and endurance to handle the lens, but is good for my own well-being. I also was trained to shoot with a sniper rifle, so I control my breathing and, like you, I prefer the freedom to move. I did find a really interesting unit that is designed for video (which I don't shoot), but is a very versatile unit: the iFootage Cobra 2 monopod + tripod. It is a monopod with a small tripod unit at the base that can be removed to make a tiny tripod and a separate monopod, or a hybrid. I combined it with a ball head and it works brilliantly. I have even been able to use it in places like art galleries where the light is very dim and I am really challenged for exposure. Sharpness: I am not a pixel peeper - I think a lot depends on what and how one is going to present images. Most of my work is now displayed on digital frames up to 55", and all the results, where I get image lock, are sharp. The challenge for any wide-ranging lens design is to accommodate the wider angle capabilities, and relative to the range of this unit, 60mm IS a wide angle. That said, I was surprised that you found the lens relatively soft up to 150mm, as the copy I have actually is very sharp across the whole range and I have really pushed it. It is possible to do corrections in camera or with the Sigma docking station to tweak that and other features. I also recommend to users to keep an eye out for firmware updates. I have no problem with lens corrections for the VERY minimal distortion and chromatic aberration I see. In JPGs, correction is applied automatically if the cameras are set up to do so, and in RAW with PS's lens correction algorithm, which gets applied automatically. Again, for those who seem to be bothered by this, correction is possible with the docking and firmware updates. The IS: Is awesome, and works too with Canon R-series IBIS and, btw, also works well (using Canon's EF-RF adapters) with the eye tracking, despite Sigma CLEARLY stating that it is not designed to work with the new R-series bodies. In that context, a video by respected bird photographer Duade Paton found that the 150-600c would hunt on the R-5 at very close to minimum focus distance. I have tested this on both the 150-600c and 60-600s, and not found it an issue with the latter. I stress that this phenomenon occurred ONLY at MINIMUM focus distance. Accessories: I don't ever use a camera strap. Where possible, I put the cameras and lenses into holsters, but the provision of the strap lugs and the extra strap for carrying the lens separately are a great touch. I don't carry the lens with the case, I store the lens in the case, inside its original packing when not in use. I always keep my gear in their original boxes for easier storage and for potential resale, and that works for me. I did put in a B+W protection filter on the lens to protect the front element. It wasn't cheap, but I would rather have to replace that in the event of a hit or from the impacts of salt and sand than replace the front element. Such a filter saved an expensive front element when one of my lenses was dropped by a clumsy airport security agent. The filter was a write-off ( had to saw it off the lens) but the front element was good and luckily the optical alignment didn't suffer. The hood certainly protects it from front impact when deployed. Your Photos: I have shot some air shows and can appreciate your skill in catching these aircraft. I think Instagram's move to change their display format to suit cell phones in portrait mode does no favours to dedicated cameras. Conclusion: This is an amazing lens, and the things that people might wish for: light weight, perfect sharpness across the range, no distortions or aberrations are really pushing what technology can do right now. These things might be possible at a cost, but some are mutually exclusive: such as light weight and better optical performance. More and more lenses are relying on computational algorithms to make them generate outstanding optical results. Without going that far, Sigma lenses have image correction applied in-body or in PP software, essentially transparently. This a pretty unique solution to the issue of one lens to rule them all...

Hello Trevor I really enjoyed reading your response. No need to ever apologize. Nothing like a detailed description to set things clear. And I do appreciate your kind words. I checked out the monopod you recommended and it looks like an awesome tool. I have set it aside in my Amazon shopping cart for the near future :-). I hope to shoot more airplanes in the coming years and this will come in handy. If you have an Instagram or Facebook page, please do share those. I would love to look over your work. I spend a bit of time each day admiring other photographer's photographs. I made the comment about the lens being soft between 60 and 150mm because I feel my copy is sharper from 150 to 600mm but in no way is it so soft that I won't use it in the wide range. I use it all the time and love it. I just want to be fair to the viewers and open about my particular lens. Regarding your age and the gym, I am super impressed. I go now and then and also study martial arts but I have been missing quite a bit lately. My 9-5 keeps me overly occupied but I am also grateful for my job. I hope to work out more regularly since I have an elliptical machine at home. That and weights, which I have been using ever since I was 15 but just to stay healthy. As you can see from the videos, I am no body builder. :-) I am getting heavily into street photography and portraits these days and even purchased a new camera to shoot my art nudes. feel free to jump into my Instagram account to view some of my work. I try to post a new photo every day. I only started in January to post regularly. My account is: instagram.com/juanlondonophotos/ You can also find the clickable link in the description of any of my videos. Thanks again for your valuable insight and feedback. This really does help anyone that comes through here looking for additional information. After all, that is the whole purpose of this channel; for all of us to share good info. Stay healthy and strong my friend and I hope we can stay in touch, even if virtually. Have a great weekend and keep in touch! juan

@@juanlondonophotography Hi Juan. Thank you for your gracious response. I shall check out your Instagram account. I don't post images on line, so I'm afraid that they are not available. I had to smile at your reference to a body builder: neither am I. Really, I am trying to retain enough muscle mass and nervous system performance to be able to continue with what I love doing as long as possible. That said, I have had issues, and for a while could barely walk 100m. In that period I gave up my DSLRs and heavy lenses for some Canon M5's and lighter lenses. However, a knee replacement later and I am fully operational again!

hahaha - I had forgotten that this is what you were using in NYC. Great bandwidth. If they made a 15-105mm f2, I would never take it off my camera. Might have to sell my left arm to purchase it though! :-)

Hello Ted, I totally agree. I saw a video once where the guy was upset that Fujifilm was calling it a large sensor and hence, my comments on this topic. The larger format does give it a different perspective in my opinion but it is only my opinion. Either way, I love my GFX 100S and I am sure I would have no problem with the Canon R5s. Take care and thanks for your feedback.

Thank you very much for a great review. A friend brought this lens recently and was raving about it. I currently own the 150-600 Contemporary and it does a good job. I live in Lancaster CA, where it's windy, dusty and hot. I am constantly cleaning the interior of the lens. I take a lot of airplane pictures and nature shots. After seeing your shots, I am convinced this is the lens I am ordering today. Great work my friend!

Hi Sydney, thank you for the kind words. I am so glad you found it useful. I am also very excited for your new endeavor. It's awesome when we realize we either need something, can use something else, or we simply want it :-). In your case, it looks like the Sports version will be very beneficial. CA is a beautiful place to photograph. I need to get out there again one day. In the meantime, keep me posted on your purchase and how you end up liking it yourself. Take care my friend!

@@juanlondonophotography Thanks Juan - being at the bottom of the world (NZ) we are pretty lucky. 🙂 I was interested to find out I would still be able to use my Canon lenses when I buy the Fujifilm camera. I have a Canon 5DII. As well a Fujifilm X-T100 for fun stuff. V.

Hello Vivienne, Well, I know my Canon lenses work on my Fujifilm GFX100S. Some work better than others. I don't have a Fujifilm X-mount camera but I would love the X100V (for fun, as you say). An X-T5 (if it comes out) would also be a nice camera but the X-T4 will be fine. There are adapters for Fujifilm X cameras so you can use Canon lenses but make sure you watch a couple of videos to make sure they work fine. I am assuming they do. On a similar note, I use all my 5dm3 lenses on my smaller Canon M6m2 (crop sensor) and they work really well. This will keep you from having to buy native Fujifilm lenses since you already have Canon lenses. Of course, the Fuji lenses will focus faster and might be smaller for your X mount. I hope this gives you some idea of what to do. I wish I had an X mount so I can do a review and give you a better answer.

Thanks for the wonderful review. The Sigma doc allows you to calibrate the lens and further improve the aurofocus speed. That's a great tool and I wish Nikon had that. I pair this lens with my Nikon z9 and with the new firmware upgrade on that body, this combo works to my satisfaction.

Its really amazing that you have to buy an extra bit of equipment, download software in order to set the AF speed where it should be set at. And ye ofc you can also perform calibration of 5 focal lengths over 4 distances , including 600 for infinity that u can easily do at home if your living room has a few kilometers and a tree line on the horizon . It's really amazing. Much better than.. doing everything right in the first place.
