I love to play board games but have a hard time finding someone to join me. So, I'm always on the look out for fun games that can be played solo. Of course, every now and then I manages to coerce a family member to the table. But mostly, it's just me, a deck of cards, and some capricious dice.

One thing on moving with a Citizen figure, they move along with you, so when you were thinking of moving Gus, you could have moved all four spaces instead of halving your movement with him
@TuxKamen
@TuxKamen 26 дней назад
Also, when Melvin encountered the Banshee at the high school, she should have rolled to attack him, rather than just insta-killing him. There's always a chance she could have rolled all blanks and he could have survived

On a further view, I realized you were planning the Scout's actions for moving Gus, not the Psychic's turn, my mistake!

This is best explanation on the points of hanafuda. As a child, I watched my mother, play and could match them but the points was never explained to me.

An update for those that are considering buying the cards. Unfortunately, Shirokiya has since been out of business due to COVID, and you’re likely to find an empty spot at Ala Moana. However, you can still buy some in Hawaii. Idk about the other islands, but at least in Oahu, I would suggest going to Longs Drugs, Don Quijote, and Marukai for the traditional deck or even the western style deck. Both decks are not as high quality like shown in the video, but they get the job done. If you want to buy the Hanafuda Hawaii Style cards or the Hanafuda Na Pu Hawaii cards made by Helen Nakano, there are some locations you can buy it from: 1. Don Quijote 2. Na Mea Hawaii 3. Nohea Gallery 4. Lyon Arboretum 5. Bishop Museum 6. Foster Botanical Garden There’s also H-Mart if you like to buy the Korean version of the deck. Otherwise, they’re readily available online, and can range between $10-$30 depending on the brand!

18:53 You moved the action cube in the opposite direction where the arrow is pointing. Is that allowed or your next move should have been to assassinate (guard or target) if you can or flee?

Thanks for the playthrough! @51:46 Quick question about the games rules: Do you always have to discard the lead clue card (and take the time/stability penalty) in order to be able to play a hand card? Or is it allowed to just pickup the lead clue card to the hand (when your hand has less than 3 cards) and then play a different hand card?

Looks quite interesting. I just bought a Super Famicom cartridge. Hanafuda Ou King (King of Flowers). With your videos I have some idea of what's going on but the cards on my T.V. are nowhere near as detailed as your cards. It's going to take a bit to figure out which cards are which and go with what. Great videos though. Very helpful.

I'm pretty sure you only need to reveal one encounter card per tile. I can't find any rule that says an encounter card is revealed everytime it is the hero phase.

What a great explanation! On bgg, there's a solo variant with an AI opponent. It's designed for Koi Koi, but it works just fine for Sakura (Hawaiian style) too. I was trying to learn Koi Koi and found all the yaku too confusing. But your explanation made the Hawaiian yaku easy. So I think for solo play I'll stick with that. Thanks for a great mnemonic! I made a screenshot about 10 minutes in, where you laid out all the cards. I printed it and marked it with notes I made from your two videos. It's a great resource!

Hi, it's Keith with Buddypal Games. I'd like to send you a nice prototype of our upcoming game "Power Advance" that has a solo mode. It's theme is clean energy, and plays in about 30 minutes. I really like your playthrough videos, by the way!

You actually get to have two cards in your hand to play, not just the one. Maybe that'll help get you a better score next time? I have Orchard and Grove (which is the second game in the trilogy), the third one (Forage) is currently on Kickstarter.

Great video explaining the rules, the scoring and the optimal moves. This game is also available to download on the Vassal engine on your computer if you are interested, but it is the original version that uses normal D6 dice and not the special dice provided in the new version of Orchard you have... I actually own both versions and bought a number of the new versions for family members last year for Christmas tree presents - great fun... I'm actually sending my family a link to this video in case they need a little help understanding the game. FYI - there is a similar game called GROVE by Mark Tuck that uses similar card-design for citrus fruit groves (lemons, limes and oranges) and wheel-barrows and squirrels? I don't have any copies of it yet, but I intend to get some again for Christmas either this year or next - it looks quite good. Look out for GROVE and we'll all be looking forward to your rules explanation and the play-through..... BTW - great job as usual....
