If i wasn't a cinematography student i would think all of this is forced or reached, but theoretically the things you say make a lot of sense. Most audience don't really know the theory of how framing, props, scenery, letters in the background, etc. almost always have a hidden meaning that compliments with extra information what we already know from dialogs. Most people think these choices are made thinking in aesthetics or style, but the making of the scenery, camera angle, position and a lot of other aspects in filming are literally all thinking in how to express the context of the story, the feelings, messages or non obvious information artistically. Plus the little details from the acting are always there for a reason and in shows like these where they give us the information bit by bit, the pshycology of the characters is mainly shown by the acting direction and the interpretation the actors have of the characters themselves (by how the screenwriters describe their personalities, feelings in the context of the scene and way of thinking to the actors of course).
I kinda liked the idea that mike had a little crush on eddie. And maybe that’s why he couldn’t say ‘I love you’ to eleven. Because he was confused and scared.
most of these feel like a reach, but there is definitely something about how he’s aware of Will looking at him and El with jealousy and how he reacts to it
I agree that some of these might be reaches. Lol Many of them seem like heavy handed ‘subtle’ things, but they’re also not insignificant. But the one that got me was the scene in the car, with Will’s painting. Like in that moment, everyone in that vehicle knew what was going on, and the way Mike was looking at Will… that scene gets me every time. 😔
I’ve never watched Stranger Things so I know nothing about the show, but some of the analysis (like the fire and pineapple pizza) was just straight up offensive 😭 Otherwise the scenes with Mike and the uhh other guy definitely had gay tension.
Just because you want him to be gay doesn't mean it's queercoded. And even if he ends up being gay in season 5 you'll have been proved wrong. Not everything is some subtle subliminal message
@@jungwoosstickeralso, while some of the examples in this video are a bit out-there, a lot of it is pretty standard visual storytelling. Montage (giving images meaning by juxtaposition, sequencing, and context) is one of the oldest bits of film making language. But even if it is never confirmed, or even contradicted by the text, that doesn’t make a queer reading less valid. These are fictional characters and they exist for us to project meaning onto them to help us make sense of our own selves and reality. There are hundreds of ways to read every Shakespeare character and that was the mass entertainment of its day. This is true no matter how important you think authorial intent is. There’s little to be gained by trying to tear down someone else’s interpretation of a work of art. Politely disagree, constructively explain why (if you have a different one), then move on.
@@productjoe4069 are u saying I disagree with the person above? They were completely denying the existence of queer coding especially in this context, while yes there can be many ways to interpret things, there are things that only apply in a queer way, and here there are way too many, and yes, queer codes are real, and this is a series with confirmed gay characters, so it will be something that will be revealed even more, hence the codes leading up to it
he could also be bi...but it could lean more heavy on one side. yellow triangle. mike, king of denial. he was obviously crying. think will is going to turn in to telekinetic Carrie next season. and Mike's true love will bring him back. lol I think the Duffer brother would be amused. very professional. well done.
Everyone saying this is a ‘reach’ doesn’t understand film. They can’t make it too obvious, that’s the whole point of a slow burn like theirs. The creators have been known to use a lot of symbolism, and it’s not wild to think that all of these were intentional. Anyways I loved your analysis ❤
Right? It’s unbelievable how often audiences especially younger audiences really seem to want to take everything at face value. What happened to subtlety, what happened to show don’t tell??
13:53 look at the sides of the room. mike's side is messy and in cold colors. as well, the light comes out only out of a closed-up space. it might mean he tries focusing himself on only a few things at once, like for example focusing himself on eleven more than on will. the mop symbolizes that he is still trying to clean the mess inside of himself, possibly the mess about his sexual orientation as well. the curtains are blue, his official color. will's side has light all around the room and the window isnt covered like mike's. it means he focuses at everything in the same time which makes it harder for him. he cares for everyone and everything. his side of the room is much warmer and the colors are warm as well, the curtains being yellow, his official color.
I watch a guy who criticizes series in a parodic way. In one video he was talking about a scene where they put all, and I mean ALL the lights on the main girl to show her beautiful and he mocked it because it was obviously too much. That's how I learned that they use this light on character thing to show the character beautiful and the moment I saw 13:49 I knew I KNEW what they were doing.
"We're friends, we're friends" JUST BECAUSE WE MOVED UNIIIITTTTTSSSSSS😝 guys dw he was just trying to sing "Champagne For My Real Friends, Real Pain For My Sham Friends"
Ohh fr,give my el a bit of break and time to discover who she is before shoving her into such a serious affair as love and pleaseee give my guys justice 😭😭
I actually kind of hope he isn't because imagine your sister dating the person you fell in love with, and he tells you he feels the same way while either still being in or just broke up with your sister like I would never want that for Will or El.
Mike definitely doesn't know. If he does, Finn didn't act with that in mind because he's called Mike clueless regarding Will's love and talked about how he doesn't get how Mike couldn't see that Will was going through something in interviews. And he's not a douchebag 💔
Nah, Byler is one sided af sorry 😞 Will likes Mike but Mike doesn't like Will. The season is about Mike telling Eleven he loves her, and not being afraid to lose her.
