We use p25 at work exclusively now and to me it sounds “muddy and bassey” not crisp at all. I prefer our old analog system audio but I’m the odd man out, I’m sure lol.
@@anongator yep all analog Also, we are moving to a P25 Phase II system on 700MHz I’m up in salt lake, I wish I had an Nextel radio but I’m sure if I can convince Uta one day to switch to DMR or P25 they might be open to letting me look around the R765’s they use
@@anongator yeah you only find the 765Is phones now My dad used to work for UTA and he got a radio and I would listen to it all the time Busses and trains, mostly because he did train driving in 2022
Good luck finding the full setup for it. Requires a Win7 PC (last version we released) and the activation licensing required to get the unit operational. From a rudimentary setup, if you can get the software profile installed and programmed with the activation license, any analog FXS based line can trigger usage.
Glad to hear y'all are on real radios lol Soooo Opensky 1 was 4 slot, however to increase voice quality Opensky2 bumped it down to 2 slot. SOI is kinda strange as it technically is 4 slot, but only uses 3, two for voice, one for control msgs
Old video, and I'm sure you probably figured this out, but if you didn't, here I am! You were actually using this phone in the final days of Verizon's 2G CDMA Networks. They planned the shutdown for December 31st, 2022, and this post was made just days before that! Some sites stayed up into January but not for very long. So cool to see this! U.S. Cellular still had CDMA service (2G/3G) until February of 2024. There are some regional carriers that still do 2G CDMA but they're out of the way/middle of nowhere carriers, at least for travel (kind of expensive to fly out some place for specific cell service, but for those who would, you do you :D ) but they do still exist. Cool video! I've also been loving your NEXTEL vids, even if they're few at the moment, but they're so cool! Subscribed :D
Oh sick, as for Nextel I just sold the site....... But it's not all bad news! They're much better then I am at getting things to work how the mfg doesn't want it to.. so they'll be poking at it to see if they can get it working without a Harmony switch
@anongator i have an XTL 5000 with a remote mount head. I recently purchased one of the Motorola Systems 9000 siren. I have the DEK Bar, Cable, etc. Should be everything i need to set it up. What all do i need to do to the XTL's codeplug to use the Siren? I cant find anything on Radio Reference, BatLabs Board, etc. Could you assist me? I know the 2500 and 5000 arent that different
You won't be able to get one for yourself. It requires a ton of back end equipment and a way to get licenses for moto. I work for Motorola so that last part isn't an issue for me lmao
Hey brother, i just got my hands on one of these and I REALLY don’t want to have to re-write my code plug. I wanted to ask you if there’s a was to just copy and paste the code plug for my XTS5000 into it? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance. Frank
Yep, same way as any newer Motorola. Just open up two windows of CPS, one with the new cpg, and one with the old.then grab the top of the tree and drag and drop it to the new codeplug
@@anongator so I plugged in the radio to the computer and it’s not recognizing it. I get an error message that says “NEXTGEN 10 connection error error context: 24, status: 80004005” any ideas what can I do to get this radio programmed? Thank you in advance
@anongator Thank you for the response! I saw this exact radio at a pawn shop in town, and I couldn't find any info on it. It was $300 so I though it must be important. I think it might be a good radio to have for a prepper? What do you think?
I sure hope the 10-15 million illegals entering the US in the past 3.5 years, mostly fighting age males… Aren’t carrying wire cutters. We are doomed…. :(
America’s communications infrastructure is dying. The experienced field techs are all retiring and being replaced by incompetent contracting companies with sketchy workers. The copper plant is being left to rot away, but not all areas with underground service are getting fiber upgrades. Thanks for your videos.
Out of curiosity, how did you get the motorola PTT tone on there? did you have to upload it to the CPS or was it in there (CPS) as an option from without any downloads? Thanks! Bradley
@@anongator AWESOME brother! appreciate the quick reply! thinking about purchasing a TP9900 and wasnt sure if I would have to upload the sound for use with trunking/simplex to CPS out of the gate or not! Keep up the GREAT content my friend!
@@anongator Im drawn to the TP9900 due to being p25 p1 and p2, as well as DMR! never gotten to get hands on with one yet but for all features unlocked, with accessories, I was quoted about $4000. not a terrible price but never have gotten hands on with tait before. I am for sure interested.
As much as I like older/nostalgic technology, I’m the guy who buys almost anything Nortel and scraps it for the precious metal. It pains me sometimes because the technology is truly beautiful and amazing and I’m reminded how amazing when i watch a video like this. But from my experience, Nortel has high quality chips with some of the highest precious metal content per kilo of any non-military telecom equipment.
That antenna is exactly like cell phone antennas of the time, it’d probably thread right in. The only difference is the fat part at the end is longer, since it’s lower frequency.
Do you have a pinout for a KVLShield to XTS3000 adapter? I have data, sense, and ground coming out of the shield, but I'm not sure where those go on the XTS side. I also know that you have to short some of the pins on the XTS side to enable keyloading, but again I don't know which. Also, I wanted to say that I'm really enjoying your channel! I'm getting back into radios now that P25 stuff is finally becoming affordable.
@@anongator I’m told it should be the same keyloading cable as the XTS5000 if that helps at all. I can’t find a pinout for that either. Apparently the MTS2000/XTS2.5/3/5000 use the same keyloading cable, despite using different programming cables. The KFDTool FAQ says the ASTRO portable series over R07 firmware and EMC 3 does support astro25 keyloading, and mine are over that version number, so here’s hoping! I found a cheap cable on eBay that purports to be a keyloading cable for the XTS5000, it goes from the universal connector to a 3.5mm TRRS connector. That’ll be here like next month, but I’m impatient you see :) I’ll still have to do some trial and error with that, since I’m building the KFDShield on a perf board and don’t have a 3.5mm connector on it. Thanks!
@@anongator No worries! I could find pinouts for the universal connector, but none that show what pins need to be shorted to enable keyloading, or where data and sense from a KFD would go. Maybe I’m just not using the right keywords. I did just now find a reference to a thread that’s behind a paywall on a certain forum for radio professionals, so it might be in there, but I don’t want to shell out $50 to find out. If you do find anything, or end up ringing out your connector, let me know!
@@anongator I finally found a pinout by chance today, and was able to successfully load my XTS3000s by taping wires to the connectors and holding them down. It worked, but it's definitely not what motorola's engineers had in mind XD . A proper cable will be here next month.
@@anongator Aura! Sweet. I’m running that too, with a g650 and a remote g430. Get yourself a g650 and you can run digital phones from 1983 and 2024 on the same system. They dropped support for the g650 recently, so you’d have to stick to CM 8 or not quite the latest CM 10.
There has to be a work-around in the software where you can modify the 09. Someone, in the future, I hope, will research the difference from the pre-production 09 and the current ones. May be as simple as changing jumpers .
