I found it to be a really reliable car. Get the car inspected before you buy it to know what you are getting in for. Find a good mechanic who is familiar with these cars to look after your maintenance/repairs. Water pump/thermostat can be an expensive job
@@MTechGuy I’m in NZ which I think you are too? Would I save a bit of money buying parts from fcp euro or overseas and getting the shop to install for me if something goes wrong?
If it was an E39 or E53 I would say yes. This actually happened to my E53 fuel gauge after I sent it for repair. I’ve never seen an E46 cluster display go bad, but who knows?
I have this problem only happening when I go from forth to fifth gear on my 2005 116 (2005) been advised could be the clutch going??? Any more advice or second opinion or anyone else had this issue
@@MTechGuy that’s just an assumption. The car needs to be raised on a lift and if not possible, that does not mean you can choose wherever you want to jack. BMW maintenance manuals say NOT to use the diff as a jacking point
Hi George/M Tech Guy - I just completed this on my 2007 BMW 118D - Thanks a million for all of your help! - Your channel is excellent and its great that you show the correct procedures and all of your hacks! - I also put in the Bilstein B4 shocks on with the slightly smaller 15mm hex nut for the botton of the shock and managed to gradually get this up to the OEM rRecommended 38 newton meters of torque - I am just wondering if I went to far considering thi is a slightly smaller nut? Best regards and thanks again!!!! - Your channel is really excellent!!!!
Awesome vid again! Was looking for an e46 Touring 330d but was not able to find nice ones over here in Germany so I went for e91 with N57D30, but I still like the e46 base. Great cars, congrats for yours, even the underside looks really clean!
best video of jacking up this platform. and also great you didn’t miss any important details for anyone struggling i.e. removing the wood from front before rear lift ect just the extra things everyone else forgets to mention. i needed help finding some info just on where to lift the rear from to lower onto two jack stands and this couldn’t be clearer i just need to use the iron section of the diff. really appreciate the help will be rolling my rear arches today
Quick question - as your driveway isn't exactly level, is there any general part of the vehicle you check to know if it is correct, front to rear and side to side? I find it much easier, and cheaper, to source the same screenwash with antifreeze through a MINI dealership. Always good to have a scan tool to accurately check engine temp and put mind at rest. Top work!
If you want to get the level perfect, put a straight edge across two of the jacking blocks with a spirit level, then set your jack stands up accordingly. As long as it’s within a few degrees it’s fine though. I worked mine out years ago for this driveway so I have a good idea how to set the jack stands up each time now. I always forget some towns have a stand alone Mini dealership. Good screen wash anyhow!
@@MTechGuy Bought brand new when lived in Dublin so is an Opel Speedster. Problems when I relocated so currently resting in garage. One day it'll be free again! Still getting my head around you calling a 330i a 'cheap runabout' 🤔🤣
@@MTechGuySo if the old injectors fail I can scrap my car? Do you know what I can do now? Where did you get your injectors? Are the Bosch parts still available and only the OEM BMW parts are discontinued? I can't find them anywhere.
Really trying my best NOT to use bad language here. But I can say that Im more than tired being forced to replace this piece of sh*t every f*****g year! €30-40 every year for something that holds off water worse than paper. Fed up, changing car brand. This together with some other tech problems just isn't worth.
awesome, thanks to you I've been able to make the job. I had to replace the pump for front glass. But I got three pumps. Suprisingly the third one is bigger than those two and it is for front lights.
@@MTechGuy I have a dusty smell coming in my 120i 2007 model when I run the heater, no heat comes. but no smell when I run the AC. any idea, I was thinking the filter behind the glove box but it seems like they dont have one.
Just subscribed , stumbled across your channel looking for E39 content . I like your story of obtaining your E60 , great to find one locally . I’ve got an interesting M car you’d be keen to see and video I’m sure . Drop me line anytime cheers , keep up the great work !
Luckily I never had water inside my cars, but I found this video interesting and watched the whole thing anyway. I like your approach to finding the leak. 👍 Btw, I always clean my sunroof drains as a preventive maintenance after buying a car with sunroof. It's something most people overlook until they have water inside the car.
Thanks for checking out the video. Sounds like your sunroof drain maintenance has help kept the water out your car 👍 I put out a similar video on my M5 a while ago about cleaning sunroof drains- ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-QbBPeqKkVmY.html
I found water on on my passanger carpet last week. First thing i did when i had some spare time was to search for M tech Guy and wet carpet. Perfect timing with this video hehe
Had the same issue on mine, passenger door one was completely cut up and whoever did it didn't even bother taping it up. Just went to Pick-A-Part on Friday and figured I'd be save and get all 4. Only charged me $5 for the whole set. There's plenty of cars there where the door cards have never been off so easy to find vapour barriers in perfect condition. I took my time with a plastic pick tool peeling off all the butyl from the door and leaving it attached to the barrier so I could reuse as much of it as possible. Have only redone one so far, using a heat gun to make the butyl soft and sticky as I went along, seems to have made a perfect seal. I've no idea where to get new butyl tape but reusing the old stuff with a heat gun looks to work great still.
Im always looking forward to your new video's. Much appreciatie the time and effort you put into those video's. I hope you do more on the M5 V10 also. I have one currently with a worn clutch SMG. Would you do that yourself on axle stands? With the kidest regards.
Thanks for following the channel, that’s great to hear! More videos to come on the M5 in the future 👍 Yes, I’d do the clutch in my driveway on axle stands. You need a decent set of large axle stands so it’s stable and gives you enough room to get the gearbox out from under the car- it’s a big gearbox. A transmission Jack would help too
5” gutted! Good you got it sorted. I was nearly certain this was going to be sunroof drain issue. I need to do the sunroof seal on my M5 just due to to wind noise
Unlucky to come across that problem as the car is in such good condition and has been very well looked after. Looking forward to seeing the repair as it looks like a bit of a chore. Having used butyl to reseal headlamps in the past I know what a pain it is to work with. I wish you well 👍
