Dude this rocks, I was hesitant since fanfics can be so hit or miss but this is phenomenal. You have an amazing audiobook voice and I am SAT. Gotta re-listen once I finish this. update 1- THIS HAS ME FUCKED UP. Jasper’s eagerness to meet Hunter is literally making me so sad. I know this won’t end well I’m gonna cry and punch the wall and melt into the floor wtf. Saying it again, the voice acting here is phenomenal. You seriously manage to sell the grief and panic to the audience. The way I dropped what I was doing when belos was injuring jasper. Update 2- Dude……🧍🏾♀️ Update 3- DUDE……… 😭
I rewatched season 1 recently and frankly I vastly overlooked her character the first time to the point I didn't even recognize her and spoilers an couple.

I forgot what the movie was called, but they did face revealing where the character had a messed up face, but they used this mask thingy (some sort of magic, I haven’t seen the movie in years) and used it to look like the main character’s sister so that’s a pretty cool way of doing that
@@TheLordMillenium Yeah sometimes people take the "This device, used like this and this for that reason, is often done very badly" as "DEVICE BAD" which is certainly not the intention. As described, there are many very good reasons to do it sometimes!
I wasn't sure what to expect coming into this, initially, while I've completed my second listen-through in less than 24 hours. My life is different now. This is all I can think about.

This was so good I watched it twice. I don't read a lot of fanfiction but this was the best told story I've ever heard. I would absolutely love to see you post more of this on your channel please!! I could listen to your voice for hours (not in a weird way ofc). Anyway I probably wont get over this story for another week!

This is so wholesome, so heartbreaking. Jasper somehow manages to be the most mature and logical person ever to walk the isles, and a naive, lost boy just looking for affection. His interactions with Hunter broke me- Jasper knew that Hunter was.... A child? A Creation? A something that Jasper loved. A Something that was his. If Hunter only knew how much jasper had adored him.

The reality is that we live in neither system completely. It's a scale from one to the other, and that makes it really easy to point out that capitalist counties embrace socialist policies like free universal healthcare, or taxes in general. Likewise it's easy to say that unchecked/late stage capitalism produces the kind of terrible outcomes that Doctor Who has commentated on in the past. These are criticisms of the scale leaning so hard on capitalism that all socialist policies, from healthcare to workers rights, are abandoned to the detriment of the working class. It's much more substantive than a "one or the other" equation. There's this narrative that you can either suck it up and deal with the wealthy and powerful taking advantage of you in every regard, OR suffer some horrendous fate in a hellscape -- this narrative is a lie to keep you asking for more or better. But I think what people do is conflate socialism with authoritarianism because of anti-USSR propaganda. It goes without saying, of course, that the USSR was not actually socialist. Doctor Who and other shows like famously socialist Star Trek invite you to imagine a better world by exploring the spectrum of possibilities. I think we're all better off abandoning the lie that this is as good as it gets, especially as it continues to get worse. -The Bird

The ads are really taking me out of the experience 😐 Edit: that took me a while to get through. The ads are a real problem since they weren't timed properly nor were they given enough of a chance to play without interrupting the story. That said, it's brilliantly written. (Spoilers below) I feel the "five words" were far too long for a final act and improperly worded; little kid not withstanding. Just stating "he lied" is more than enough to get the message across, plus with bloodied fingers, that's all he could probably get out before bleeding out. -There's also the improbability of it still being there, given where the kid died, the amount of foot traffic, blood disintegrating over time long before the flesh melted into bone, but I feel I'm already being a bit pedantic as it is so- It's interesting how they tied Hunter to being raised by Belos to Jasper's final wish, though I do prefer the canonical implications that it's just Belos being pathetic and trying to recreate his brother. Also the violence in this is a bit too much; yes Hunter's scar is bad in appearance, but to suggest this is how it happens is just too edgy, never mind the beatings Jasper went through. I can see Belos being like this in/near the beginning, but now? Just one generation before Hunter? Mmm, seems extreme... Belos is a bully, yes, but he's pragmatic as well. To be this openly violent, even with the doors shut in his palace is a fool's errand and I can't see him doing this. Plus, God, the amount of faith Jasper had in Belos with that final promise. I know why it happens this way, but it's all meta and makes no in-universe sense. (Okay, maybe it's the blood loss, but still!) The voice acting is really well done. I didn't cringe once, which is saying something because I am all too sensitive to second hand embarrassment. I loved your performance of each character, though the voices could've been a smidge more distinct. It was hard telling Jasper and Darius apart but other than that, 9.5/10. I also loved your passion and you expressed the emotions flawlessly.
Hey Noir, thank you for the detailed and thoughtful review! I'm very flattered you made it to the end, and that you took your time to share your thoughts on the interpretation. And sure, plenty of fanfic stretches realism for probability and sometimes stuff is just vibes, particularly like the He Is Lying to You bit--although it is possible for someone with a bad enough nerve injury and just enough time to do that and leave behind visible marks. The grimwalker graveyard is enclosed and has very little foot traffic. Jasper having faith in Belos for that final exchange is a big part of the agony of that scene, I think. He's doing all that for the CHANCE that Belos will follow through on his word, which highlights that power differential, the misery of creator vs the created in this particular way. Jasper is a pretty warped character and one could argue that with HOW warped his perception of reality is that he's *clinically insane*. What you have observed isn't unintentional! GOD thank you for letting me know about the voice acting, my number one fear was that people would hear this and go "AH I CRINGED" and that you did not is very nice to hear. I'm of the school of audiobooks that prefers more acting than not, and in the aim to create what I wanted to exist, I'm glad that you enjoyed it. The lines and tone are read in such a way that really allows the listener to feel everything going on. The little breaths, the wavering of the voice, just gives it a whole new meaning as you listen. Correction: Leo did NOT kill his boyfriend's cat. He only THINKS that he did. The cat in the Gucci collar at the end who steps over his corpse is the real Pluto, who was never dead, just lost. This was confirmed by Mike Flanagan. Who also confirmed that the Usher children's death were not intended to symbolize deadly sins. It's a good video, and a reasonable reading, but it's cannonically incorrect.
