*I’m a hospice nurse and sometimes when I’m feeling sad after a hard day I’ll smoke outside while listening to this playlist. It’s such a bitter sweet playlist because the blues can bring such sad feelings but these blues let me know that everything will be ok. I hope everyone out there who might be going threw a rough time it will be ok even if it doesn’t feel like it sometimes. Everything will be ok. I love you all*
According to the most reputable oral history: The life of the musician Robert Johnson is full of mysteries. For one thing, he belongs to the ‘27 club’, as he died at the age of 27, just like other musical greats such as Jimi Hendrix, Kurt Cobain and Amy Winehouse. The famous legend says that Johnson sold his soul to the Devil to be the most prodigious guitarist who ever lived. The pact was allegedly made at a lonely crossroads: Highway 61 and Highway 49 in Clarksdale, Mississippi. Many artists contemporary to him claimed that before that supposedly diabolical encounter, Johnson was a mediocre guitarist; after spending some time away, however, he returned as an ace on the instrument. One fact adds to the belief: six of his songs are about the Devil, and one of them is even titled ‘Crossroad blues’. The lyrics read: ‘...I went to the crossroads and I fell to my knees, I asked the Lord have mercy, please save poor Bob’. As if all this were not enough, Robert Johnson died at another crossroads in August 1938, where the Devil would have taken what was his.
