Do you like Day Trips? So do we. One day, or overnight adventures checking out some of the more out of the way stops are among our favorite things. We rarely head for the Urban "attractions", but small town attractions and events are a special draw for us. Come along as we look at some of those locations here in the mid-atlantic region. History, nature, and adventure are what we look for.

Thanks for the kind words! The cars were looking good! As far as the turkeys, I was getting a little nervous because they kept coming in like they wanted me to get out of their way. A flock of pissed off wild turkeys is not what I wanted to tangle with lol.
My best friend lives on gravity hill, when you get right down the road there a barn on one side of the road and a house on the other, rode dirtbikes there for years
It is a gorgeous area. When I went on up the hollow to turn around that day, two does and 4 fawns just walked across the road not even caring I was there. Thanks for stopping by the channel!
good stuff, i grew up in blandburg and would visit this once in awhile with my friends. we actually climed the fire tower a few times. im not so sure if you can anymore i dont know what type of shape it is in
I grew up right down the road in Bellwood. It was quite a few years since I had been back to the firetower and it is in pretty rough shape. There is 10 foot chainlink around it and I believe they pulled the first 20 or 30 feet of stairs. When I was up this trip it looked like someone had worked the gate on the chainlink over pretty good. It was just too cold that day to spend much time looking closely at it, but I sure wouldn't try climbing it today. Of course it may just be I have developed some common sense over the years lol. Thanks for the kind words, and stop by the channel anytime!
I grew up in Custer City.....went school 400 ft away from that (now) museum....it was just a big shack in 1970...couldn't drink the water there....had to hall water in gallon jugs from a spring well.....went every sat. We used to ride the jacks as they went up and down...😂
I have heard some great stories from people on growing up in the area. Being a kid in the country was the best! Thanks for stopping by, glad the video brought back some memories!
@AbraKaDabraAdventures hopefully you find a few! I'm not sure where you are coming from but the Punkin Chunkin festival at Bald Eagle State Park in October is always a great time. I was there two years ago, and it's on the calendar for this year. The Elk around Benezette,PA in Mid-september through mid-october during the rut is always impressive!
Add the Western Maryland Scenic RR to your list. After 1309 returns to service. Their fall foliage trains are fantastic, and the Polar Express trains are a real treat for the family. Right now everything is behind diesel, but hopefully 1309 will be back in service soon. It's always better behind steam! We're in that gray area, either Central PA or Western PA, depending on where whoever you ask lives lol
I lived in Bradford in the 1950s to 1960s and my younger brother and I would go up in the surrounding hills and ride on the metal rod lines that went back and forth that came from the pump house to the individual pump jacks. Lots of fun when you're a kid.
@@raptorPA Raptor. Here's a story my mother told me about that happened when she was a child living in Bradford in the in the late1920s. She and her girl friend were playing in a pump house that was in operation. My mother's friend got too close to that large engine and her dress got caught in the large spinning flywheel. It picked her up off the ground and did a complete revolution before tossing her out when her dress broke free. Had her dress not torn she would have been killed. Lastly, I remember sitting in class at the Hobson Place School and listening to the symphony of those pump house engines. They always made a big noise on the combustion stroke.
What a great place to visit. We were just there last month. We started at tutisville Railroad first, and we went to the Drake well Pa museum. So when we got to this museum I had some good idea about what I was looking at. Then we visit the Zippo museum and gift shop.
That is a great day of history! We did Penn-Brad museum, zippo, and Kinzua Bridge State Park on this trip. But there is so much more to film in that region we are putting together plans for another day of shooting up there soon! I'm glad you enjoyed the trip and thanks for stopping by the channel!
@jacobkeppler1984 Yes he is! Bob Emerson. He was the Executive Director at Fort Roberdeau in the late 70's, early 80's and made his way to Fort Niagara. He comes back every year for Roberdeau's Rev War weekend and occasionally for other weekend events. Bob is a fount of knowledge on the period.
1309, the steam loco that had been in service developed cylinder/piston issues in Dec 2023 on a Polar Express train and has been in the shop. Parts for an 80 year old locomotive are not an off the shelf item lol so it has been a slow process getting her back into shape. Their other steam engine is in the process of a major rebuild. Hopefully 1309 will be back on the rail's in time for this year's fall foliage trains and polar express trains. You can follow their Facebook page to find out when the thunder comes back to the mountain!
@ericesper9250 it was great meeting you folks there. I enjoyed the conversation while we were waiting for the show to start. Keep an eye on the Western Maryland's website and Facebook for 1309's return to service. You don't want to miss that beast! If you want to chase it you'revmore than welcome to join me sometime.
had the opportunity to camp there during a market faire. great place,, really a great thing to have in your vicinity. too much history of F&I and REv. war has been forgotten, or bulldozed over by another conflict some years later.
Love attending this event every year however I do need to correct you. The Confederate Army didn’t burn Chambersburg until the year after Gettysburg 1864
Thank you for pointing that out to me. Apparently, at some point, I conflated those two events. The problem of relying on perceived previous timelines. It really is a great event

I moved here in 2019 and had no idea so much haunted stuff was out here 😂 Thats awesome, though! I would love to go take weekend tours of some of the stuff.
Baker Mansion and the Railroaders Museum are both open for tours in season. Not haunted tours, but history tours although both have embraced the stories and have offered October events with a haunted focus the last few years.

Back around winter 1977 I was out riding a snow mobile around Black Mo. There was about 2 ft of snow that was weeks old and no tracks into the Observatory. As I rode around the Observatory, a door opened, and a guy looked out and surprised me. I thought "That guy had to have been living in there for weeks, with all that snow.". I didn't stop to chat, just kept rolling.
Thanks Scott. I was surprised how well the mic handled that. It was actually worse on some of the other audio I recorded at Corbin's. And some post processing and a couple of really impressive VST plugins cleaned it up nicely. As far as Ray... I'm looking forward to it!!
Thank you. Glad you enjoyed it!. The whote lady is a pretty common story. I've heard it related to both Wopsy Road as well as the Buckhorn. There are a lot of versions of the story so there may be a version along Blacksnake. All 3 roads are close to each other. Off the top of my head I can't think of anywhere along Blacksnake that has the sheer dropoffs like the other 2, but I could be wrong as I realy use Blacksnake. Maybe once or twice in 10 years lol.
@@raptorPA You’re welcome! This video were been post on my feedback get my attention so however I click it and, interest to watch your video! Have a happy Memorial Day to you and your family and, friends! Please stay be safe and care! :) by the way I’m full of deaf 100%
All that training and when things do go wrong, first responders panic, dump the materials on the ground, set them on fire and yell "Run Away!" Hence destruction of towns. This is Bullshit!
I was curious if you were filming on the bridge! Great video of the training event. It was over at the shop the other day, and was thinking they rolled it in for the upcoming family day. Cool to see it doing its job!
Yes I was. I didn't think they would appreciate me driving into the parking lot like I belonged there lol. If I had realized it was there sooner I would have tried to get in as an 'independent journalist' 🙃
Thanks for taking us along on the trip. We were at canal basin park the other evening and the train was moving around...but my phone was incapacitated for making a video. We have been busy getting the NS OCS ready for it's next trip out!
That looks like it was a fun event. You can really see the difference between those starting out, those with low skill, and the highly skilled artists. Really impressive stuff.
