According to science UCSB science, to produce most of Co2. Quote "For baking soda its 84 g/mole and for citric acid its 192 g/mol (roughly). So the ratio you want to use is 3:1 or 252/192 = 1.31. That is for every 1 gram of citric acid use 1.3 g of baking soda. This will give you the maximum amount of CO2. " Unquote
There's 2 check valves that should be in place in bottle B that he is not showing in this, one directing back inwards to that spare valve on the Y junction, and another directing downwards on the line at the bottom of the Y
The mix is right accept it should be 600ml not 400ml. Also dont forget to add a drop checker and and 1 way air valve. I forgot to say you need 2 2lt soda bottles. Its only ment for tanks 20g or less. Depends on bubbles per- sec (bps) rate is how long it will last. If you are using 20g or less tank an 1 bubble every 2 sec then it should last about 2 weeks
I followed the mixture with 2-3 BPS running 1 week now and suddenly my pressure gauge reaches the maximum level so I release it via safety valve. What could be the reason why the preasure reaches maximum level?
I turned off the valve and was taking my D501 off my bottles, only to hear a loud pop and everything buzzing right out of the bottle with citric acid all over my carpet. How do you turn off and take a D501 CO2 system apart safely?
+antiswattt3 yes i'm a noob at this stuff, but found out easier and proper way to do it. theres a pressure release valve thingie on the top where the citric acid bottle would be. basically, this pressure release was designed so that it ever goes I believe 5 PSI or higher, it will automatically release the valve as a safety precaution and release the gas. I ended up using this to slowly release the air until the pressure was 0 and I didn't hear any more sound. then opened it safely and soundly :-).
i have one. it doesnt really last 3 weeks. sometimes it lasts only 3 or 4 days, its rather unstable system. can it be turned off during the night, so co2 doesnt buld up and suffocate the animals? will the pressure continue to buld up during time off?
tovar83 you can turn it off at night when you use a solenoid ( magnetic valve ) . 10 euros or dollars on ebay or alie express. you can add it somewhere. just cut ur tube and put the solenoid in between
The reactions stops when the pressure isn't leaving the bottle. When the pressure drops the mix moves from bottle A to B. When it can't leave it never moves anymore.
I've tried this several times and cannot get my co2 built up. I am however, using the green system and not the blue. Is there a difference? Also, I used white vinegar rather than citric acid. Could that be the problem?
Christopher Bugeja depends on the ammount added, citric accid they add 200g dry citric acid, you will need much more vinegar in liquid form. (weaker acid) Also dont add water when using Vinegar (the is much water in it already)
