Quinclorac known as drive xlr8 also works great for violet and is less harmful on warm season turf. Sure wild violet is a native but it's also extremely aggressive and will take over a lawn in a month. there are places for native plants but I do not want an entire yard full of wild violet. It does not make a good turf and if I have a yard I want to use it as such.
I have used all these traps…no kill…I got Duffus traps and now I actually kill them and I see their bodies. I got 8 last summer and so far haave gotten 3 this summer. Now I am doing my neighbors yards. It is a never ending battle. Moth balls, garlic, coffee etc does not work. You would have to kill all the earth worms, grubs and any other kind of bug in your yard to rid yourself of these. That is not possible plus you want the earth worms in your yard. Got to Amazon, tunnel trap or Duffus trap. Make sure you rub the traps in your dirt very well to get rid of the metal order, use gloves without rubber on them and only use these gloves for trapping, cut out the lawn to put in trap, make sure trap is tight in hole, take a spoon to tap down loose dirt in tunnel, put loose dirt from your yard over trap so no light or air gets in. Leave it. Do not get inpatient could take a couple of days but it will work. Never wash your traps. You want them to smell the same as the earth. Happy hunting everyone.
I've killed moles previously by just going out very early in the morning, or late evening, and just watching their runs very close, have to be observant, watch closely. You will see the ground, or soil, lightly raise up and down, that's the mole. With a sharp, straight spade, place it over him, and drive down quickly. You may even hear a slight squeal. Don't mean to sound mean, but they can tear a yard up bad. Also, walk softly when approaching.
I have 3 of the mentioned traps (less the out of site model) and have never caught a mole. I realize now why I haven't!!! This video needs to be posted at the beginning of the search engine!! I do intend on purchasing a few out of sight traps. " I'm so excited. I just can't stand it!!!" Had to put that 70's song in! Thanks guys for this video!!
What is tri clip ear???? You should have the chemical name written in your video. Better yet, have a link to brands that have that chemical so we can buy it and treat our lawns.
These work in a perfect world, I've tried all the gimmicks,, you name it,, nothing worked,, juicy fruit, poison, spikes, traps, exhaust, flooding with garden hose,,, and my neighbor told me about using dog poop or any feces. Put it into a 5 gallon bucket, ,make a slurry, I used the hose nozzle and shovel,, I made 4 buckets several daze with the cooperation of the neighbors dogs,, knarly stuff,, I poured half a bucket into each hole,, beginning at the ones nearest my house,, YOU DO NOT WANT THESE CRITTERS UNDER YOUR HOUSE!! I had over 50 holes because they just kept coming after nothing worked,, THIS WORKS,,, everything else dissipates or requires constant monitoring,, do this,, it has a lingering effect and fertilizes your yard,, works for voles, moles, gophers,, all tunneling critters,, HOLY SH!T,, LOL,, it's been two weeks and no new mounds,,
VERY helpful video!! I will start using the bucket again! Also, after watching this, I learned I was burying the trigger too far into my dirt barrier. I always thought that increased the sensitivity! I’ll get out bright and early and reset my traps
Get your s*** together Michigan China might attack the United States we need to First Strike against China's Communist Party threatening war with the United States today if we send diplomats to Taiwan again we will have to make a first strike on China they have already killed millions and millions of people around the world releasing that virus on the world on purpose
Here's the thing: curly dock, violet, dandelion and broadleaf plantain - all of them are natives - not invasives, not weeds. If we're to be honest, the grass is the actual (unsightly) weed. I can't think of anything more pointless and un-green to have in the garden. No offense, Turfland Science.
Some may dispute this but... do not touch the trap or put your fingers down the holes without some disposable or other gloves on. Moles have excellent smell and I have had my traps avoided by mole due to not wearing gloves in the past.
I actually have to go Michigan state University to understand and trap the idiot gopher that is eating up my plants in my yard. I will try road flare, gopher bomb and report back....
Not my leaves, I have 2 oak trees I take 2 or 3 days a week through November just to get them up. Thank goodness my city collecs leaves. Hip-High 3 or 4 times in a month.
I have 5 large oaks on a third acres lot, one probably around a hundred years old (trunk about 3.5 diameter & spans entire house + most of neighbor's). Leaves can literally get 10" deep BEFORE raking if I don't stay on top of it, and when we used to do city pickup we would produce 3-4 foot tall x ~30 foot long piles on our curb. But I switched to this method of leaf control exclusively three years ago (for many years before, used to only do it in final weeks before snow because we also have a sycamore that still has most of its leaves after last city pickup) and it works fine. But yeah, if you let it go too long you will end up having to do multiple passes, and on the first pass you'll be doing a "wheelie" (pushing down on handle to lift front wheels off ground, because even the highest wheel setting will be inadequate).
If this guy was truly an expert he'd know that moles are carnivores and eat undesirable bugs in your lawn. The tunnels they make can help aerate the soil, and they mat down easily. If you still really want to get rid of them however, get rid of the bugs and the moles will go somewhere else on their own for their lunch.
Have I got a mole story for you. Being in the landscape business. I got a call from a regular customer to clean up the back yard in the autumn which meant to cut back some of the perennials. She has soft sandy soil being close to a creek, and the tunnels the moles create are everywhere. I'm raking up the trimming, and I see in the corner of my eye some underground movement so I stopped, and it's coming closer towards me, and it pops it's head up thru the grass. It's back is towards me, and I hear it say, "ummmmmm, I smell maple syrup!" What the hell? Next I see another lump in the ground, and it's moving in the same direction in the same tunnel, and it pops up out of the same hole and I hear it say, "ummmmm, I smell honey!" Holy shit, two of them. I picked up my plastic rake, so it didn't feel the vibration of it, and I held my breath so it wouldn't smell my breath. Then I see still in the same tunnel, a smaller lump moving towards the other two. It got right underneath them, and try as it might, it just couldn't squeeze thru the other two, and I heard it complain, "hey, all I smell is moleasses." True story.
Great information on multiple styles of traps and how to position them. Bucket was a great idea, (we put yard ornament near it but never thought about light creaping in) Thanks for the Visual instructions.
Look up the "Underground Exterminator" if you want to solve your underground rodent problems quickly. The Underground Exterminator's pressurized fumes GO TO the moleswho MUST BREATHE. They may not discover poison or go into traps but...they MUST BREATHE, KILLING MORE THAN ONE AT A TIME. American Veterinary Study shows they die painlessly in 5 to 7 minutes. It's a war, now you can win it.
Sad. Pull and eat them. They taste great. Tell this guy to take a hike. Boil, steam, and stir fry and plantain, dock all can be eaten. Don't kill them.
Ahhh.... those little purple flowers.... damn "Creeping Charlie" .... that's what I have and it is impossible to kill! It grows so low to the ground that you cannot even mow it away.
