After many roads travelled in Australia, first the big loop living in a basic camper van for over a year, many fun beach driving and fishing days, exploring road trips, adventures with a 1976 Viscount caravan and rural work trips. And before all that growing up in a family that loved camping on the beach. I found you can’t underestimate the need for a reliable dual battery system.

As a qualified Auto Electrician for over 20 years and personally experiencing touring with a very basic dual battery setup right through to full lithium setup.

Our kits are fully labeled and with the simple installation making it an easy DIY Dual Battery System.

What’s stopping the battery from draining straight into my lithium battery? I’m trying not to make a mistake. I want to add a dc2dc for my lithium battery to a px1 ranger.

Most dcdc's units such as the REDARC bcdc will have an inbuilt isolator that will stop current going from the start battery to the lithium aux battery when the car is off.

Update on my previous comment. Got the job done, works great. Just need to take time & find something to pull cable through tight spots. Cable ties were really tight in places so used spare wire to push end of cable tie to where I could use 1 hand to attach properly.
@AussieDrifterTouring
@AussieDrifterTouring 8 дней назад
Sounds like it was pretty tight in your setup, glad you got it sorted out.

What I hadn’t considered was how difficult it is running the cable When you have the ARB 140l fuel tank installed. There is almost no way to get your hands in place to pull cable or to tie it to the ford harness. Can’t see how cable will fit under fuel filler as there is hardly any gap at all. It’s taking me forever. Going to be a bit of a bodgey job I’m afraid. Not fault of product just me

Thanks for this video. You must have the smallest hands of any known body. It took me about 2 hours to get the wire through the grommet. I ended up putting a flat screwdriver through the grommet to give a space for the cable. There was not room for two hands between the brake actuator near that grommet. I did contemplate putting a hole in the grommet but persisted and it appears to work. The hole in the rear was the easiest part.

Ha ha, You can probably tell in the video that as an over 6 foot guy i certainly dont have the smallest hands in the world 😜 But i have done it a few time which makes it easier. Modern engine bays are pretty tight but hopefully the video explained the steps for you.

What size cable are you using to run to the back on the accessories harness? And would you be safely be able to run a fridge and other accessories off of it?
@AussieDrifterTouring
@AussieDrifterTouring Месяц назад
Hi Mate the cable size used depends on the type of harness and sockets selected. it is 6mm twin if using round sockets and 8 B&S bacle if selecting an anderson plug harness. They are all designed to run a fridge and other low current 12v circuits such as camp lights and charging usb gear.

Does it stop you from adding a snorkel , with the battery tray on that side near air box ?
@AussieDrifterTouring
@AussieDrifterTouring Месяц назад
It shouldn’t as the battery sits in between the air box and the fire wall, probably best to check with the snorkel manufacturer as some enter the side panel close to the fire wall wich may be an issue but for companies that enter at the air box it is still fully accessible. Hope that helps
@Caira.R

why dont you use the start,run wire behind the hood hatch leaver release just up and above that pannel just tucked behind the loom. for IGN curcuit? I can see why useing a fuse tap is easier as all the wiring is just thier, im just curiues why people are not using the wire ford provides. Nothing wrong with how it done at all looks good. just yea

Makes life difficult using the big impact drill instead of using 2 x spanners! Seems to be some kind of obsession with a lot of installers using power tools where spanner/socket would suffice and reduce the risk of damage or stripping bolts. Not always quicker, either.
@seanmac8339
@seanmac8339 Месяц назад
couldnt disagree with you more. i do electrical work every day and if i didnt use power tools and used spanners and hand tools for every job it would not only take a lot more time but increase the chances of getting carpel tunnel syndrome later on in life, think about it.

How would you approach the grommet situation if you already have a cable running through with its own grommet?
@AussieDrifterTouring
@AussieDrifterTouring 5 месяцев назад
Hi mate, in that case the original Toyota Gromit, the large one going through the firewall that contains the Toyota harness running into the vehicle has spare nipples that you can cut the end off and using a little bit of lubricant you can push the cable through those into the car. That designed for extra accessories to be installed. Hope that helps
