Meet amazing people and share their incredible stories and talents. The Original Georgia Traveler roamed the country and showcased the people of America.. These are the best of the best.

In the 1970s I had the best job in television. I traveled Georgia and the southeast for WSB-TV in Atlanta meeting people and sharing their amazing stories and talents. I was the original Georgia Traveler. Over that time we did over 1200 stories and sadly most of them have been lost. In 2018 I discovered boxes of ancient video tapes with over 100 stories. The stories are exactly as they were aired on Action News in the 1970s. You will be amazed by the unique story each person has to share. I plan to post as many of them as I can.

Just to keep the history straight, Before I came to WSB-tv I was the Tennessee Traveler for WLAC (now WTVF-TV) in Nashville. I discovered a few of those stories and I will be sharing them when I can.

I think I have one! My parents bought an embellished goose egg that looks just like this for my grandmother, and I have it now. It came from a vendor that had a table set up at the Meteor Crater in Arizona in the early 70s. It's very beautiful and interesting. I'm so excited to come across this video!

My pleasure. Still the 70s were a big contrast to when I was growing up. The CBS Evening News was 15 minutes long. It wasn't worth coming inside for. In 1963 they finally expanded to 30 minutes.

This is absolutely the very first time I have ever heard of an "egger". I love it. 🙂Through this channel I have been able to experience so many unique personalities, hobbies, businesses, eccentric characters, forms of art, and generally interesting aspects of American experience. From the Daytona Beach Ice Cream guy, to Rufus Hussey the Slingshot Master, to the woman who boiled cowboy hats, to the tobacco chewing couple...and so many more. Thank you as always for posting these.

@@georgiatravelerFirst, thank you for posting this. Alex and Sancy were my parents. I have actually never seen this segment, though I do recall that they were interviewed about Wild Oats at the time (copyright was 1977). The link for this posting came my way this morning. Dad died less than a decade after this, and it was only about three years after this interview that he had surgery to remove a brain tumor in the speech and verbal area of his brain. I had no memory of what his voice sounded like until I saw this video, so it means a lot to me to watch it. After watching it I also pulled out my box of Wild Oats and re-read the booklet for the first time in many years, enjoying all the double entendres throughout, so reminiscent of Dad’s humor. He taught Chaucer and Shakespeare, and he did his doctoral dissertation on Tristram Shandy, so intellectual bawdiness (never crudeness) was certainly something that amused him. He loved verbal puns and the play on words. As epilogue to this interview, no Wild Oats did not take off like Pet Rocks. It was probably too bawdy for some and the double entendres throughout the book too intellectual for others, making it a rather niche item. As I recall it earned enough to pay for a family vacation.

He said that for about three days they were the talk of Rome. My father was British and my mom was an artist who attended Shorter. Double entendres, puns and literary references were always a part of our family, too. Alex and Sancy would have fit right in. I’m sorry about what your father went through but I’m glad you could hear him again. Anne, I always wonder what happened to all the people I visited doing the series. I work with deadly heights daily I tell new guys what I do to suppress fear of heights. You have to shut down how you look at things in a 3-D manner. You only look at things in 2-D, never focus or even look at things outside of your grasp and immediate reach. Only enjoy the view when taking a break. Seriously, block out everything beyond your feet and hands, if you can’t stand on it or grab it/hook on to it, then it is of no consequence and should never be focused upon. You’re welcome
