Hi, I read how you like playing games and I actually make Roblox games, idk if you play them but since you play games a lot id like your feedback if you're willing
So I am currently playing this for the first time - I loved Myst as a kid, but my parents didn't buy the sequels, so I never played the original Riven. I saw a playthrough of it MANY years ago, but couldn't figure out how to get a copy working, so that was that. Never thought they'd remake this one, honestly. I'm so thrilled to be able to play it in the modern era. I remember bits and pieces from that playthrough I watched, so I haven't gotten TOO stuck so far. I can see they changed some things, but I largely like the new changes and I think they're integrated quite well. If I'd never seen that original playthrough, I would have NO idea anything had been added years later. After I play through a section, I come here to watch someone else do it so I get a sense of another perspective. In the "arena" area on Survey/Map island, you missed the whark swimming past/underneath you! It occurs once when you reach the end of the walkway on the left (it swims past you, just under the water...it might actually breach slightly, I can't say for sure because it happens quicky) and once when you cross the wooden logs to get to the dome (it swims right underneath you!). Both are really pretty spooky, I yelled both times. You were paying attention to other things and missed them both; but if you go back to your footage and listen to the soundtrack when you cross the logs, I think you'll hear it. That "anger the whark" achievement might be the only one I don't go for, lol. I've played horror games that creep me out less than that thing.
Thanks for posting these! I appreciated your knowledge and calm demeanor ❤ also, im so not a fan of those animated people. I remember being a teen and being soooo impressed they incorporated "real" people! These just look tacky 😢
It’s crazy when I first saw someone else play through after taking that Gold Elevator down I was like “Where’s Gehn’s Survey room?” And then I saw they added it in that extra level for that first elevator to the replica’s of all the islands. That was a pretty slick change!😆🙌🏾🔥
The iPad version is so bugged. I did all the endings (including the ones mentioned by commenters here), but it says I have seen only 60% of them. It also wouldn’t give a notification that a discovered new ending every time I would trigger one. It’s so bizarre. It has the same problem tracking other achievements properly.
This game is absolutely amazing - thank you for introducing me to this one. A tip for mastering the ship better (and easier) are using the landing cam when taking off and landing - think of the camera that it looks straight down the hatch. When in that mode you can also see a small ship figure to the right which indicates the height above the planet, when it is at the top you are above the gravitywell and can look forward without risking falling down again. And when you are locked on to a planet the ship will self orient itself when switching to the landing cam so you can see the planet straight below you. You can then just use the down button to lower the ship and also easily hover above the planet to find a good landing spot.
The return to Riven is so much more impressive than I had anticipated. All of the new details and even the soundtrack additions are exceptional. I only wish that Cyan had kept the live characters, if only to transpose the original film footage over the new environment graphics. I miss the actors and actresses from the original releases. They are our extended D'NI family. And of course ... your walkthroughs are always so enjoyable. Such a melodic voice to compliment a sincere enthusiasm for all things MYST. Cheers!
Thanks for your walkthroughs. I did play the original Riven and found it great to walk through, but didn't have the patience to solve the puzzles. So, I'm enjoying seening you work your way through them.
Thank you lovely lady...Thoroughly loved your play style and chilled voice over... subscribed and thumbed up. I did buy the game but due to work constraints have only played an hour's worth but I have a week off coming up end of July so hopefully will play it more then. I really hope they make myst 3 exile remake in the same vein as this remake should it ever happen:)
makes me really want to play through the original Mysts and Riven again. What a great time in history. Surprised we really don't get more puzzle games in modern times. Like somehow people are not as smart as they used to be or something
@@slbagwell I remembered something, watching popular people like Markiplier. A simple sliding puzzle that can be beaten in like 8 moves has him stumped for hours as he then calls puzzles impossible. With the kinds of puzzles we used to have to solve growing up, they used to be so complicated I really don't think most will get it done today and I would honestly blame the internets easy access to walkthroughs telling people how to beat them. The best way really to play a puzzle game first time is with no help cept for hand written notes. People seem to just not want to think anymore and just be told how to play. I guess there is a reason we have a "do not drink" label on bottles of poison.
Completely possible. Many of the number puzzles are randomly generated so that each play through gets different numbers. I like that. It makes the player have to understand the puzzle and actually solve it :)
I never figured out the door on the original, I had to buy a magazine with the walkthrough. When I realized you could crawl underneath it, I got SO mad. Teenage me was literally screaming "You can do that!?", LOL.
I really enjoyed watching you play trough this and your wonderful commentary throughout. Its been a really cool journey seeing all the changes they made from the original, some subtle, others a bit bigger and it truly looks phenomenal. I will have to buy this for a few nice Sunday evenings and go trough it myself.
I have a question, I am following along with you but went a bit more and reached the fire mable puzzle, not problem with the marble placement but for the life of me I can't figure out the slider numbers, in the original myst you needed them to open the domes and I can't remember how to do the math to place the sliders in the correct place, the note paper in Ghins lab shows the island symbols and the plus or minus numbers assigned to each. Can you tell me what if any numbers have been assigned to the islands?
The shape of the eyes on each island combined with the paper in Gehn's laboratory tells you what number for the sliders and each island. This is a random puzzle. Not sure if the base number changes... but for me it told me the base number for the fire marble was 9 and then I had to add or subtract the number given in Gehn's laboratory from 9 and that gave me the number for that island (that part is randomized and different each game).
So I’m playing the original Riven on my iPad and when I do the turn style room puzzle, when I go to the door to get to the spinning dome, there’s another door behind the gate I raised, and in your game it just looks open. Is that a change or did I miss something?
That's a change. I couldn't remember how the original worked that puzzle, but there must be another lever to open that second door. I'd have to play the original again to remember. It's been awhile.
Love your playthrough. I saw this other guy do a complete playthrogh already, but he was a bit fast......plus he had himself up covering part of the screen.
I enjoy how you talk about what you come across in the game and you don't speed walk through everything and it seems you have a good understanding of Riven.
Looks great! And if I were to ever venture back into Riven this is the way I'd want to do it. But today, I know my PC system just won't be up to snuff, and also the remake is expensive for me in this current economy.
You can't be serious. How could they have incorporated flat videos into a 3D/VR game? Wouldn't locking the player into a fixed position and POV every time a cutscene plays out be a considerably worse "blemish" on the experience? What a ridiculous thing to whine about.
@@amy_grace Did you even play the original games? I guess not because you'd know FMVs worked just fine with the 360 view in Myst III and IV. The game doesn't ever let you walk around in scenes with the other characters anyway. For a lot of us who actually played and loved these games growing up, the FMV is a big part of what makes Myst feel like Myst. It's a fair complaint and if you do a little looking around you will find a ton of people share this opinion. But go ahead, keep on being combative toward random strangers on the net for no good reason, real great use of everybody's time.
Such a beautiful remake. I especially love how they remade the area at the start of this video. prison Island with the big cut down tree where Catherine is, Ghens 233rd age looks so awesome too! 😮
