Peter's commentary is so frustrating. he complains on bars about the judges not taking a tenth for hops on dismounts (as if thats the only place to deduct--smh) and then on beam he says something about the judges just looking for a place to deduct. ummmm yeah, peter, thats their job.
Svetlana Khorkina had every reason to upset about that controversy which in my opinion was a controversy at all it was an error on the equipment handlers at the 2000 Sydney games it does not take a expert that if top female gymnasts are falling on an apparatus then that apparatus should be looked at to figure out why and that vault was 2 inches to low all the gymnasts did have a chance to retake the vault but it was too late for some elite gymnasts because it sets the stage for the rest of their competition
I can't tell you how many times I've watched this. When this first aired at the Olympics you would have thought i was Shannon's Mom. I wanted her to win that gold medal on beam so bad, when she did i cried i was so happy for her !! And when i watch now i still feel joy for her !! The most hard-working gymnast ever !! She deserved every bit of success she got !!!! Im not one to idolize people, but i do Shannon !!! What a class act its June , 2024 and i never get tired of watching her !!!! What a legend ❤🎉❤🎉🥰☝️🤩
8.39 When Steve Nuno hugs Shannon ❤ You can feel how genuinely happy he is for her and she just melts into his arms, such a great coach/athlete relationship. Then he tells her "Good things happen to good people." ❤ ✨️
The problem with vault in the 90's was that the Phelps vault was marked too leniently in most cases. Amanar and Milo always piked theirs, and Gogean always initiated the 1/2 turn too late despite holding a good straight shape. In both cases, the vault should either be devalued or deducted more harshly but they never were. Grosheva was the only one in this final who did the vault correctly, albeit with terrible form and a bad landing, hence the low score on her 2nd vault.
Rosu had bent knees, legs were apart and her landing wasn't clean. She didn't have the height or distance attained by Annia Hatch such a disgrace! The U.S commentators lied about Rosu being better---she wasn't. They don't argue scores for the black gymnasts. They allow them to be grossly underscored knowing the underscoring prevents the team from winning. If I'm the ref I protest the low scores and secure the medals. If I'm the commentator I will call it like it is give it to 'em straight. Racism is expensive.
Personally they have to kick out Nellie Kim's old ass. She sits on the panel cheating & deducting imaginary points from team USA. The U.S is the best vaulting team. Mohawardj & Hatch were clean w/ their vaults having more difficulty & scored much lower than, a flawed vault from a Romanian. The U.S milk toasts who referee for the U.S need to be left home.
Khorkina's personality is very entertaining, but I question anyone who says she's very elegant as a gymnast. I think it's said just because she's so long and skinny. She looks spindly and does not move gracefully at all e.g. on this vault. Flexed feet and legs all over. But no hate, she is always interesting to watch. She does not have good lines nor extension.
