I think purring basically is a health check sound. kittens do it to report they're doing great and are comfortable - the parent doesn't need to worry or check in on it / them closer. then like many things they keep that behavior because they're pets and doesn't grow out of it. i think it can almost be translated to a human baby (or grown up) saying "mMmMMm..." when given e.g something delicious to eat (for example), it also serves as a report that all is perfect.
That is true, but purring can also mean that your cat is anxious. My cats purr at the Vet where they hate to be. That is out of anxiety of being there. Also cats who are sick will purr. This is why it's important to note other signs your cat will give you so that the purring sound will have some context. Thank you for sharing, I appreciate you engaging here.
Interesting question, so I took to the Google machine and asked. I got a great response basically explaining what I wrote above but it ignored the part about it being a different frequency of sound. The best answer is that purring is a sound that can mean many things based on the context of the purr.
oooh my 2 cats are basically like this ❤😁 Not best friends, the occasional playtime from the youngest that the older does not want to participate in, some hissing, but then they have random cuddle sessions and overall I would say it's going fine and gives them more activity and focuspoints through the days :) the younger have slowly gotten more and more calm in his demeanor which def help haha
Great to hear! I think my problem is that my older cat who just turned 19 is not friendly towards the younger one and so when he approaches her she hisses loudly and he likes the reaction, so he keeps doing it. Because if he's not in the mood, they can lay down on the bed together without issue! Oh well. If I were to bring another cat into my house, I would do it in pairs. (Two siblings) Much easier to deal with.
I had 4 cats at the same time about 20 years ago , there wasn’t fighting at all , all was going well except for bed time , yes my cats was sleeping in my bed , there was some hissing from time to time because one cat wanted to that exact corner of the bed , they where sleeping each on a corner, in winter they was sleeping under 2 layers of bed sheets, yes I’m up north in Quebec living in a 200 years old house with the only heating from antique wood stove , so on very cold nights when the wood stove didn’t produce heat to go up by the large diamond plate it was freezing up there …
Yes, I know quite well how warm cats bodies are, like little hot water bottles! What I showed on the video of them swiping each other is the most violent thing they do. They aren't buddies, they spend zero time together, nor can they both sleep in our bed at the same time because Jack is way too jealous to leave Maxie alone. He has to be the center of attention. It's been 8 yrs since Jack has been here, so this behavior will never change. Thanks for participating in the chat!
Wow! You are quite observant! It got by me for sure, but you've heard that raising kittens can be a handful, so maybe this lady has figured it out and got another hand?? Appreciate the comment. :)
Glad to hear that maxi is in good health and jack had his antibiotic this 2 cats is in good hand so dont worry about them. May be they are adjusting the weather here in the Philippines❤❤❤❤
Hi Julie, thank you for commenting. I asked myself the same question. I did a search for Scottish Folds and see pictures both ways. I don't know if the pictures and videos are labeled incorrectly or if the breed is offers both faces. I think they are beautiful cats, but I don't believe that I've ever met one in person. Maybe someone else here might be able to give us a definitive answer
Scottish Folds cannot be mated to other Scottish Folds. Their folded ears are a result of a mutation causing the ear cartilage to fold forward. Because of this mating two Folds together would result in the kittens being born terribly abnormal. All the cartilage would badly affected & the resulting kittens would have to be put down as their heavily mutated bodies would not be compatible with life. The Manx cats can also not be mated to another Manx cat for the same reason
I want them all and I want them now! OK, OK - just one? the Abyssinian. Lithe, muscular, elegant compact coat. And the only one I met, took to me instantly. It was two-way.
If you're shopping around for a cat, sit there with the litter of kittens and your cat will pick you! I am a firm believer that your animal chooses you not the other way around. I've had mine seven years and he come crawling out of a towel of his brothers and sisters curled up in my lap and crashed and he's been with me ever since. I didn't even see the other ones
No purebreds. Mixed breed cats need homes! I like mixes that look like Lynx point Siamese shorthair or American Shorthair tabby. I have a beloved orange Norwegian Forest long hair cat mix right now. I brush him, but he still sheds like a fur machine.
All cats need homes and deserve love. There are valid reasons for choosing purebreds as well as mixes. This video makes clear why some breeds are better than others for different lifestyles. I personally prefer the highly intelligent, talkative and engaging Siamese but ultimately adore any and all types of felines and appreciate their breed diversity and beauty. Mixed or not. As such, I don't preach to others about what they should choose.
I preach on here not to yell at your cats, but Jack got the best of me once and I punished him by giving him a time out in the bathroom. When I let him out, he jumped up on my sofa where I sit and PEED, and then POOPED! :) This is why I say be patient! :)
To know your personality matches in cats is very important !! Very cool video !! I love ,love orange cats the best !! But,grey/ white or black cats are so lovely ,too ~!! I love Russian blue ,too !! 👍👍💜🥁🐉🎤🎶✨️💞
Yes, cat personalities can be as different as people. Imagine sharing your home with a cat that doesn't match your personality? :) Thank you for the compliment, I appreciate your support!
I've got a tabby female and a rumpie Manx he is white and ginger someone dumped him on our property about a year and a half ago he doesn't like to squabble and is very vocal all the time 😂😂 but I love both to bits ❤❤❤
Thank you for sharing your cats with us. I love to spread the word on how loving cats can be. So many I know just don't understand how satisfying it is to love and be loved by a beautiful cat!
