I'm from Saint Lucia. This reminds me of my days as a boy. Couldn't speak a word of creole. But my whole family loved this song when it was played on the radio. My creole is much better now. 😂

Oh what a beautiful folk song. I love it. The writer, singers and musicians captured the essence of Dominican and Caribbean Culture perfectly at the time; and most of all a haunting Melody. A master piece. I was a young boy living in St. Lucia when this song was released somewhere in the 70's. Still love it more today.
OI remember years ago Someone told me I should take Caution when it comes to love I did, I did And you were strong and I was not My illusion, my mistake I was careless, I forgot I did And now when all is done There is nothing to say
What is it you dont understand...friend once you speak creole you should. The song speaks of the great old days when life was great and simple. Thing were better.
Not familiar with the language so I have no idea what the song is about but a good tune is a good tune 😊 and I loved listening to this one when I was a kid back in Guyana. I’m told it started playing on local stations a lot around Carifesta time in 72.
My little island....things, times, and people change but you will always be the same green and warm and welcoming. I love, lady of beauty and splendor......🌄.
It's a list of all the things we did growing up on a tropical island. From catching fish to going to mass. Chorus These are the things we grew up with. God gave us all these things. For our pleasure. So let's keep it like that.

Yes, u are spot on! hazyé is more to describe "the bush" instead of forest but same thing i guess. And the blue crabs beat their drums- im guessing she is just using imagery, like the crabs are hitting their claws against the stones making noise. And people catch them with (bouzay - traps of some sort?) a bouzay is like them old fashioned lamp, they used way back in the day sipyé means mat from what i remember so i'll have to find out about that one.
I loving the vibes, Most of the words I have been mispronouncing for years with no one correcting me. Only now I hear the correct way of speaking it. Thank you
