Hey girl, there is another great version of this song 'Ozean' ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-s8WJYwFlyUg.html. Just Henning solo with a guitar singing at night at a balcony. So lovely and even more passionate, I think. It's my favorite. Please give it try. Greetings from Berlin 😎
In the beginning Henning said, that they have a new song, but they don't want to present it at the stage but somewhere else ... (meaning somewhere above just in the middle of the crowd 😉)
"You've Made Me So Very Happy" was a top-ten pop hit for Blood, Sweat & Tears in 1969. This performance is from 2004, over thirty years later, and while the singer can still sing the song well, he sings it much less forcefully than he did in the seventies. When you're ready for more songs from Blood, Sweat & Tears also check out "Spinning Wheel", "And When I Die", and "God Bless the Child".
It feels like he's singing to someone who is addicted to drugs when he tells them "i wish i had a nickel for every miracle you easily tricked me into." I _think_ people who are seriously addicted to hard drugs like heroin use slang such as "miracle" to describe to other addicts about their next high they need. The woman subject in the song knows where to score their next high and must have frequently informed the guy on where the new place or who the new person is that she met who can get them high. It starts off with him explaining to the woman why he got out (of the drug addicted life, possibly, or having broke off a relationship with her.) His opening line shows it may have been a contemptuous breakup: "To lesson my troubles I stopped hanging out with vultures and empty saviors like you." Then there's the chorus: You can lead a horse to water but faith is another matter. To me, that's the singer telling the woman that he has tried to get her help and get her out of this life but he feels like she didn't trust him enough to believe that he was really there to help as opposed to using this as an opportunity to control her. And then he's imploring her from a human standpoint and no longer as a boyfriend standpoint when he sings to her: "So don't you surrender. ' Cuz salvation in the eye of the storm...." He's imploring her to fight her drug addiction. Seek help. You are more addicted than you realize. Your life is in danger if you don't wake up and recognize how serious your addiction actually is. And he gives her hope: Salvation is often found HERE WHERE YOU ARE RIGHT NOW. Recognize that and open yourself to it. Then there's the lyric: Sister, do you want to try and find me? He's talking to her now as a human (calling her "sister") as opposed to a former friend or lover. I am willing to guide you out of the dark pit of your life, because I did it myself and I can help you, but you have to ask me for that help so that I know that you're serious. (My thought on that line: EXTREMELY DEEP) He goes on in the second verse. "I have no time for accusations and conversations on all the bad things that you do. He no longer wants to be having arguments with her over what she thinks he's been doing and he doesn't even want to know about what she is doing to support her deep drug addiction (prostitution?) and then, "just a note from the jailer, drugs end the relation, to all the people around you." He's reminding her why he has left her. In other words he's saying that "we both know that drugs always destroy friendships eventually and this was inevitable." And after the guitar solo he says "I've kept secret all your superstitions and all your twisted wisdom. I'm less certain with this line but I think he might be saying that he kept it inside and never really told her until this song that on top of everything else she was also very kooky and too weird and aloof for him long term as well. By that, maybe she was a believer in witchcraft or was overly into astrology to the point she carries tarrot cards in her purse to give people in promptu readings when they're out at parties. You know, the kind of person who thinks they are WAYYY more intelligent and interesting than they actually are and they never fail to prove this every time they speak. And so, in addition to the drug life that he needed to escape, he's also saying he wasn't really all that into her, either. I forgot how heavy of a song this is. You can feel the darkness and immediacy in it - it feels like it's taking place AT THE TIME of two people in a VERY DARK place - possibly a serious heroin or methamphetamine addiction and the singer imploring her to get out of this life before it ends yours.
I didn't understand that in past times. My 1rst concert was Depeche Mode. I went to a Frankie goes to Hollywood concert. "The age of consent" was for a long time the best Album to go and still is one of. And hey, i still ended up at hearing also this. And never i felt some influenced to change my sex or whatever. Just loved the music. Am about 56. When i am "through with it" I go watching: Abba the Musical and i feel fine, as a hetero.
Thank you Fay, very nice song, unfortunately misused by the producer. I like the origin and the story behind it more. With WyclefJean and with every rap millionaire - whether black or white - I would be very cautious about publishing at the moment. The cesspool is big
I think or at least I'd like to think. That it's a nod to a totally different system. And that system being Socialism. Although the Coop always say's that Politics bore's him. He's one of the most political singers I know. He's just in Camouflage. I've been listening to him since 72. And didn't come to this conclusion yesterday.
Micky Dolanz now 79 is the only one still left. The others have died sadly. R.I.P. not too long ago a movie was made on them., Look Out (Here Comes Tomorrow) is a nice song. I grew up, watching the reruns of their shows…….👍❤️
