For grade 2, how long did it take to do the lesson? Did you set the timer to do 20 mins of lesson including the workbook pages? I'm debating bw SCM arithmetic or R&S arithmetic. My son definitely needs shorter lesson and less writing but only thing I have problem with SCM is it doesn't teach time and weight and measurement doesn't come til book 3....but i love that it's orally done. I also know that with R&S, I just have to teach and have him do it orally and skip some problems. He definitely needs repetition and mastery based math😅
@wholeheartedhomemaking
@wholeheartedhomemaking 12 дней назад
We always do 15 minutes of lesson and 5 minutes review for either curriculum. We set timer and just pick up where we left off the next time. You could always do time and weight informally in year 2 via recipes, clocks in house etc

Thank you for your video reviews. I thought to use R&S along side SCM Arithmetic Series. For example level 1 in each curriculum. Do you think it would blend well together, or just too much for the child? I thought to give a half a lesson in R&S each day. I just love how quickly kids learn math facts and they actually stick, but I love the gentle short approach of SCM. Thank you
@wholeheartedhomemaking
@wholeheartedhomemaking Месяц назад
Honestly that feels like way too much. If anything I would do the speed drills from R&S with SCM, but that's about it. They are very different methods of learning, and SCM goes a bit slower, but still just as effective to get them stick depending on the child. Three of mine have thrived with SCM and facts, one did not but she also isn't thriving in R&S. Facts just take longer for that one child to retain. We use xtramath.com to help them with facts usually.
