I had the pleasure of interviewing Vern Reed in 1985. In part of the interview, Vern mentioned Meredith Wilsson first heard The Buffalo Bills around 1952 on a local Buffalo radio station where they all appeared.
I have a new respect for this group after watching this. The studio version is so slick, and they did this song some real justice with this live version.
I first heard this song as an Inductee in the United States Army at Fort Jackson, South Carolina. My best friend, Private Washington, and I would sing to this in our room next to our bunk beds. Washington passed away due to Pancreatic Cancer during the George Floyd Riots and the COVID-19 pandemic. She had called from Virginia to check on me in Minneapolis and tell me this was her goodbye. She didn't have long to live. She used the GI Bill to pay for college and earned her doctorate. She had a good life and made her peace with death. We said I love you and I sang this song to her. Two months later, I called her for her birthday, BUT there was no answer. She had died the day after that. I miss her so much. When I hear this song, I think of the 17-year-old kid (me) and the 18-year-old (her) kid, better known as Frick and Frack, to the Drill Sergeants away from home for the first time.
I saw her not long ago at a Fever Records Freestyle show. I cannot believe she is 63 years old. Holy shit she looks like she’s in her late 30s early 40s at best she has energy. I actually had to wiki her and look at her age because I said there’s no way she was on American bandstand Arsenio Hall and she looks this young still, God bless on another note yesterday we lost a doo-wop legend, Larry chance from Larry Chan and Earls passed away September 5, 2023 from his second bout of cancer. That was my father’s friend for over 65 years from the Bronx crew we will miss you buddy.
When I was at Temple University in the mid- 80's, Jade Starling & Pretty Poison performed along with Cyndi Lauper @ Temple's Spring-Fling & when I saw that small opening I was looking for to tell her what she was to me, I took my shot & didn't miss, it was an absolute bullseye!! It was my chance to tell Jade the 1 most important thought that she ONLY was responsible for engraving into my brain & "I said Jade, if ya only knew just how many nights you starred in my Teenage Dreams, night after night after night! And Lou Franco, who was Pretty Poison's lead guitarist & just coincidentally knew from the club scene in & around Philly told me that was the absolute only time that he witnessed Jade coming up absolutely speechless after my comment & professed teenage love that I had for that Philly girl!! Lou told me if it wasn't for my girlfriend at the time who was right by my side every single moment of that Temple Spring Fling Day, I might of had a "shot" with her but she was just a tad overwhelmed by my girlfriend Sherri who was not only an Philadelphia Eagles Cheerleader & but she also won the Miss Pennsylvania title just 4 months later! I still would of dropped her for Jade Starling in "Philly Second" & that's "ABSOLUTE WORD"

Just beautiful! Bobby Lyle is a marvelous pianist who is worthy of greater recognition. He has a manner of approaching the keys that defies description...one of the best indeed! I love his rendition of the Strayhorn/Ellington classic! Thank you for posting. Blessings to you and all.
Que interpretação é essa?! Delícia! Olha que no passado essa canção foi imortalizada por Dick Farney e Lúcio Alves soberbamente... tremenda responsabilidade. Essa revisita foi linda!
I read the comments and I expected her to sound worse. She didn’t sound bad here. Not as good as the record but this is not an easy song to pull off live.
You should hear her *now* she's actually gotten way better. 63 years old now but you wouldn't guess it from looking at her plus she rocks even harder now.
i was in love with this awesome woman...Kathy P. I hope you are watching this...this was our song back in the 80's I want you to know, if you're out there, I still love you, and think of you every day. I hope you are doing well.
