They tell you its caused by misfolding of proteins but they don't tell you what causes the prion proteins to misfold to begin with. For example, with mad cow disease, the misfolding of the proteins was caused by the cows eating feed that contained ground up pieces of cows' body parts, (bones spinal cords etc) So, the obvious question is, what is the origin of CWD in deer?

False information. I can show you pictures of several deer with CWD that have been coming around for several years. I interact with these deer, so I know them well enough to identify them by sight and personality. Deer CAN partially recover and regain some of their strength, however their hides do not recover, although they may slightly regain a couple faint shades of color. I have even known two Does to have fawns while infected. In one case, the doe has had twins (both with CWD) where the buck appears normal while his sister is stunted and has a short & twisted snout having a dental under-bite. In this last case, this doe is 12 years old and I've known it its entire life. She has introduced me to all of her young over the years. This has been heartbreaking since she considers me to be her friend.
