This is Leontyne Price at her best paired with the great John Alexander. This is the one Puccini role I wished she’d tackled a few years earlier and recorded the entire part. Her excerpts of the arias and duet with Domingo are beautifully captured, Price was truly a great Puccini soprano.
There's a live full length recording out in the world from her role début in San Francisco. She's absolutely sumptuous in the role. Everyone was just on fire. If I'm not mistaken, she was somewhat ill during the Met run.
