Hi bro,, if there any opportunity for job please reply me, iam indonesian experience 3 years as field network engineer, jointing cable, maintenance, installation to the home and many more
Been a few years with some industry shifts. Anyone know how things are looking now? Something to get me out of a 9 year run with the major telco companies 😂
Hello Mike got a question. When you said someone needs to get 70 of the 100 questions to pass, do the questions have multiple answers you gotta get right, or they don't give anything where it's blank? I'm taking the class next week and I'm preparing my reading books. I'm new to all of this so it's alot to take in in such a short time
Im an electrician wanting to get into fiber optic as well. My boss also wants to expand his business and is willing to pay for any schooling and make me a foreman for that side of things if im successful. How do i go about getting into that without working for a company that does fiber optic.
@@mikeott3415 cool. I’d like to add the CFOT under my belt soon. Now might a good time since the economy is recovering so stuff is ramping up and the whole 5G rollout. Thanks a lot.
This video wasn't quite what I was searching for BUT turned'out to be way more informative & inspiring than what I expected... Nice One Brother!! *Congrats on Your Certification!*
You said to upload your resume, do they require you to be working in the field ahead of time? I'm looking to get into this field as a career. Should I take a certificate program and get a job before becoming certified? Thanks
I’m really not sure, maybe if you responded to some job postings you could tell them about your background, and ask them if they would consider hiring you if you got your industry certification
Hello friend. ... i am Dev .coming from india. I am a fiber optic Technician.. bro i want job in abroad..please help me how i can apply for job in foreign countries...i need help...
Hi Mike. I am looking to start career as fiber optic technician. What career opportunities do I have working in this field down the road? Also, how much money a person could make?
Thanks for the tips, I plan on being an FO technician here in Mexico some time. The local phone company in this country is transitioning from copper cables to optic fibre.
@@mikeott3415 thanks for info I thought j had to go to community college for it....Is the job still viable or is it a dying market?I'm curious. Can I still get an ok job from it and does it pay ok..I'm in the Florida area
In most countries, getting a higher education is the ticket to being a fiber optic technician. As for your 2nd question, that won't be entirely necessary.
Hey everyone I just relocate to Brooklyn N.Y. from the Caribbean. I am very my h interested in working Faber optic. Where can I sign up for classes? Can anyone help? In Willnt have any problem with on the job training at all.
Hi Mike, it's been 3 years since I commented here. Are you still working as Fiber Optic Tech? I'm planning to enroll for training. Can you give some tips and advice?
Hamoud Alanazi yes I did get certified. And no, in my "how to get certified" video I explain how I used flash cards to pass their test. I didn't buy any of their materials. Good luck!
I signed up for a fiber optic installation class that's going to start in a few months. There's also a voice and data cabling class that's coming up. Should I sign up for that to? Just wondering because they seem very similar.
I can only tell you about salaries in the UK. If you can negotiate well and your skills are great, you can earn as much (little) as a warehouse picker! I have worked for 2 companies and went for interviews in 5 other companies. I do fibre (and copper) for 5 years. Im not an engineer, but I am IPC certified, my knowledge is extensive (odtr, splicing, assembly, installation, terminating, atex, barrier gland, expanded beam, interferometry, you name it). I was offered a teaching/training job, i worked as a team leader and supervisor, Ive done working instructions, but Ive never earned and had never been offered more than 21k pa (british pounds), about 11 pounds per hour. It is not a well-paid job, I tell you that. you do that because you like it. there is more money in copper. In the USA, the salaries are about double (in dollars). Large factories pay the minimum wage, small companies, if very desperate, will pay about 2 - 3 pounds per hour above the minimum wage. you better be a carpenter, plumber, car mechanic or something like that.
I'm considering a career shift to fiber optic technician. Do you think it's a good career? How much does a F.O. tech make? Do i need to have a background in electrical before jumping into training?
+dodong kapitulo It's a great career. You don't need a background in electrical work. If anything a CATV or telco background would be more helpful. You'll get paid what you're worth.
+Mike Ott hi mike, how did you start? Did you enroll in a community college or in a specific fiber optic training center? Do you mind if i ask how much does a fiber optic tech earn?

Mike Ott I have 15 year's of experience with Verizon as a Tele comm tech. Both as a copper splicer and a fiber installer. Do you think I would have much trouble with the pre qualification test?
