Durian is the most complex natural food product in the world. The taste is so varied between types and even fruit to fruit and season to season, a true gift from nature. Unfortunate that you can only get quality durian from Malayasia, Singapore, Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam and Philippines.
All the durian you saw on the stall ate engineers durian, cultivated to give that thick and nauseating smell. As beginner you should try Kampung Durian that harvested wild from the Forest. The taste is milder.more original and less heaty especially the throat.. I also buy Kampung durian as it actually taste better and nicer.
Good vendors will tell you its no good and will usually set thise aside for durian products. Its good you tried in those order because if you had a strong pungent one, you wont be able to taste others 😂
Westerners who try it first time need to know that durian as a fruit isnt a juicy or sweet kind of fruit, but think of it as eating a custard. A custard with complex sweet/bitter/alcoholic flavors...
@@Bokbong-gt1dt Is it.? Thank you for the info 🙏 I was searching for the right word because the google translate I searched says fox is musang but not the kinda musang that we have here in this country 😁
I did a bit of reading about durian, lol im malaysian and ive eat durian all my life. The strong smell and taste is from its chemical content- esther and sulfur, thats why u can smell it miles away. And it has a bit of alcohol in the durian, that some varieties is gassy a bit sour. For example black thorn when eat it right after open, u can taste the sour/gas bit, but if u leave it overnight and eat the following morning, it taste much much better than musang king, the sour taste dissipates leaving it superior bittersweet creamy lushness. If u dont like bitter, ioi is another great variety, sweet creamy and less bitter than musang king.
Too bad u didn't try the XO which is alcoholic taste and bitter, in some case, only very little sweetness, but for a first time, I can understand and u tell the staff what u prefer.. That is good. However as a Malaysian I am so proud u trying out our hard work durian as farmer around Malaysia been experimenting and keep introduce new variant each year and register then under the agricultural depart of Malaysia. Just for a note : Tupai King is the registered under D214 MUSANG king D197 Red prawn D175 or the johor red prawn under D13
there's new durian more supperior than musang king called black thorn, i tasted it for the first time last week and I can't believe it. all these while Im a big fan of musang king and always spending rm2k on durian during the seasons. but black thorn is another level
the last best part about durian... sharing! if you are the lucky 50% of first timers that enjoy durian, then share them with people around you. durian in malaysia is a community thing.. share the goodness all around! have a great day :)
Durian from Malaysia is good abd sweet. If you as tourist if first time eat durian from thailand or indonesia your never try or again durians because its no sweet and not tasty. So advice majority tourist come to Malaysia and then you know how best, sweets, tasty Malaysian durians. For those first time plan to eat durian come to Malaysia and you forever never forget the best Malsysian durians. Maybe durians from vietnam also to be consider.
Its durian season again in Malaysia, and this video came up on suggestions. Glad that u love durians.. the beauty of Malaysian durians, we have variety of it. And this is how u eat durian the first time, u have to eat it fresh, not frozen ones. Some people like it sweet, some like it bitter & liquorish, some like it bittersweet. My personal favourites are IOI & Red Prawn.. both are sweet. And creamy. Buttery. Yumss
Was great to see you like Durian!! Durian is considered a "heat" food, it is always good to mix it with something that cools you down like the coconut you had, another popular "cooling" fruit is mangosteen, it goes really well while eating durian.

Bro, Iast year I ate Musang King from Raub, Pahang, Malaysia.. its planted up to the hill.. this type of durian only for export, the taste was absolutely delicious than Musang King that I ate before😅
Had the chance to try when I was younger. Couldn't eat something that smelled like baby poop. Didn't try it til I was 40. Love it now. Somehow even the smell has grown on me.
Just curious, if everything in that corner is a Musang king....what was that stall assistant checking for? And why did he reject the first Musang king?
I believe he was searching for the one that had the best distinctive star shape at the bottom, common characteristic of the Musang King, the first ones he checked I guess not having a good star shape.
