I am a part-time helmet painter, full-time dad and husband. I started this channel to share my passion for helmet painting. I have been painting motorsports helmets for the last 28 years. Through the years I painted helmets for racers in karting, Indycar, NASCAR, DTM, GT3, Formula Atlantic, Formula Mazda, Euro Formula 3 and on and on and on! Follow me as I will take you on my daily struggle in teh studio painting helmets and sharing some of my knowledge.
Hi man , How are you...Longtime no video !! I hope all ok with you. Start to paint bycicles and helmets for road bikes !! I hope we will see you soon all the best dude.
Just found this channel and love it . I do a lot of spraying at home with my water based lechler scheme, I was wondering if I can use this water based scheme for helmets for base colours ? Or does it need to be solvent ? I was also wondering if there is a suggested time span for de masking for sharp lines, to avoid any paint peeling on areas you possibly might get paint build up ? Thanks great channel
Not gonna lie, I was hoping to see you paint the helmet and not only getting it ready to be painted, nonetheless this video does helped to clear some questions I had.
Awesome video! - Is the name on the side of the helmet a sticker or painted on? - Is the dual stripe tape separating the orange and white a vinyl cut from the plotter? - why do you clear coat first and then still keep adding paint and logos? - Do you have to sand down the clear coat to apply the matt coat?
Sorry for the late comment. I looked up at the house of kolor website, and I am not sure of few things. Is the paint you are using urethane paint? And what is sg-100 made of? is it a kind of primer? Thanks.
Great tutorial. You may already know this tip but - when working with the type and adding the stroke... You can open the stroke window and change the options for how the corners render... Especially when trying to mimic neon (which doesn't have any corners,) you can select the middle option and it adds a very small radius to the corners. I don't have a Roland cutter, so corners can become a problem area for me and this helps dramatically,
Great videos, thanks for sharing! Quick question about the pencil lines you’re using for the tape layout. Do you mask next to them and then erase them? How do you deal with the reference lines? Thx
Another really quick question. For helmets that have vent attachments and wings on them, do you paint and clear those separately or do you reattach them before clear? How do you make the paint pattern transfer to them seemlessly when they aren’t attached to the helmet? Thanks, love the blogs!!
Hey Patrice, really appreciate your efforts to make these videos, they're so informative and well put together. I have a question about the Bell helmets with the air holes. They sometimes have little metal grommets around the holes. Have you found a way to remove these without damaging them? Thanks again from UK.
Hi, thank you for your comment. Unfortunately I didn't find a way to not damage them. I bought a box of these grommets from Amazon for cheap and replace them. You can even buy some white ones and paint them to match the helmet. Cheers.
@@helmetgurucanada Hi, thanks for the reply. I'll have a look and see if I can get hold of some int he correct size. They charge about $20 for 12 'official' replacements here in the UK. It's a joke.
Amazing videos Patrice! May I ask you something? Which nozzle size do you use in the spray gun for painting the helmets ? I want to buy one and start learning to paint helmets but I’m not sure which nozzle size to get. Can you help me ? Thank you so much for your amazing videos, really inspiring!
You mention that you made a podcast, I'd love to hear it, where can i find it? What is it called? Vous mentionnez que vous avez réalisé un podcast, j'aimerais l'entendre, où puis-je le trouver ? Comment appelle-t-on ceci?
CONGRATULATIONS FOR THE VIDEO. FOLLOW YOUR CHANNEL. YOUR WORKS ARE FANTASTIC! THANKS FOR THE TIPS, I WORK WITH PAINTING (ORIGINAL PATTERN RESTORATION) AND I AM WANTING TO PERSONALIZE HELMETS. YOUR CHANNEL IS HELPING ME A LOT! THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR SHARING YOUR KNOWLEDGE !!!
I had bought a different helmet on Amazon at the beginning of this summer for my big headed daughter to wear while bicycling and scootering. ru-vid.comUgkx0ipcYkXV-2YCp_cBN3HLfzR_OoD0HQYx Well it was WAY too big and not adjustable at all. Previously we had really expensive but adjustable helmets from the local bike store and I didn't really want to pay $50 again for another helmet. I searched and was fairly sure from the reviews that this helmet was what I was looking for- and it was! The pads inside are comfortable, the rim in front provides a bit of shade, but most of all for me there is the dial adjuster in the back which allows for a really secure fit on my daughters head. It seems like it will fit for a few years too which makes me even happier! She loves the pattern and I might end up buying another one for her twin sister (who has a much smaller head!)I definitely recommend this helmet. My daughter is 5 but has a big head. Her twin sister could fit in this one as well but it's a bit big.
Amazing job, I'm a big fan of yours! I have a question about how you deal with the raised edges when you de-mask stencils? I always struggle to have a perfect clean edge, especially on colours that don't cover so well, leaving bigger raised edges. WHat do you do with the edge? Leave them or try and remove them?
