The School of Cultural Texts and Records at Jadavpur University was formally set up in August 2003, and began functioning in January 2004. It has a broad and open-ended agenda of documenting, processing & studying the textual basis (both verbal and audio-visual) of human society and cultural life in the widest sense. The School has growing archives of various kinds, it has well-equipped project rooms with appropriate hardware and software support, as well as scanning, recording, filming and projecting equipment. It has also generated specialized software for advanced documenting and editing, for the first time in any Indic script.
SCTR consolidate the activities of the University across the broad field of archiving, digitization, bibliography, textual studies, sound recording studies, editing and book history. Its activities extend to text, image and sound archives, oral histories and audio-visual records. It has emerged as the pioneering center of 'Digital Humanities' in South Asia.
I attended this lecture in 2019. The crowd behaviour at the beginning of this event came dangerously close to being a stampede. A hazardous amount of people were allowed entry in the balcony of the auditorium. People were on the verge of getting crushed by the crowd while being upright. After a point I couldn't even walk back and leave the auditorium; there was simply no space to go back. The crowd surge in Seoul last month reminded me of the poor collective behaviour demonstrated by the people trying to attend a lecture by a public intellectual at a place of learning. The irony.
A salute to you, Sir. Being an alum of this university, I feel grateful to see such an intellectual gathering in Gandhi Bhavan. Definitely as Prof. Das mentioned, such intellectual sessions will be a priority in future too. Seeing you reminisce your days in Presidency reminds me of the twilight moments spent with my friends. Such academic integrity must be received with more enthusiasm.

Inspite of not having been either a student or colleague of Prof. Swapan Chakraborty , but as a teacher of a college in the distant North Bengal, I had had the opportunity of getting a glimpse of his sparkling brilliance in refresher courses & seminars. I would like to know whether after indepence of India in the present scenerio Aboriginal of Jharkhad are more worst than before independent? Their forest right are being snached and these people are being displaced from the forest and their houses on the plea of develpment India. Is india will develop by displacing these people? This is the symbol of development of India.
