Pretty sure the guitar player is Jason Wilber. He played with John for 24 years. John Burns played with Prine in the early years (with Steve Goodman too), but he'd be much older than Jason is there by that time.

One thing they forgot...The funny people of country music. I saw Jerry Clower and Ray Stevens in the group. and they should had done more on Minnie Pearl and the other funny people who had passed away, like Rod Brasfield. Aww...what a shame they left all them out.

Hey Live Preserver, would you upload Asleep at the Wheel and Bob Wills' Texas Playboys on Austin City Limits from Season 1 in 1976? This is the first nationally-aired Austin City Limits episode that aired on January 3, 1976 on PBS, and for the first time, it's gonna be seen by live music viewers all across the country on their Public Broadcasting Service stations. Now Austin, Texas is a place for live music, in which concertgoers love Texas music. But this is not going to be an outdoor concert, it's live music for Texan audiences; country to pop, progrssive to outlaw, western swing to rock, folk to Tejano, Cajun to Americana, roots to jazz, soul to gospel, blues to bluegrass, and Zydeco to rockabilly. In the first nationally-aired Austin City Limits episode, Asleep at the Wheel and Bob Wills' Texas Playboys perform.👍

John is legendary.... The closest musician to his talent still alive and touring is Bonnie Raitt .... Grew up lustening to the whole gang ! Lowell, Linda, Don ( Hensley ), Jackson, and so mqny more!! Felt so pleased could take my youngest son to two of his concerts here in RVA.... Saw him the first time at the venue called the Mosque (sp.) Here in Richmond He was in rare form, Probably had a couple of those vodka and ginger ale cocktails before The show.... pretty sure he broke at least 3 guitar strings while playing, his crew had his back as another aucustic was immediately brought to him immediately Pretty sure it was 1976. Still listen and learn from his down to earth music, like right now on a Friday night hanging with my two dogs. Fuck Covid and those behind it He didn't deserve that. Got to be my all time favorite !

1990 was the 15th anniversary of Austin City Limits (1976-1990). The show celebrated 15 years of great music. This performance was George Jones's third and final appearance on Austin City Limits. ACL bid farewell to the 1980s and hello to the 1990s. This episode of Austin City Limits from 1990 features two country music legends. George Jones first appeared on the show in 1981, and this was his third and final appearance. Carl Perkins returned to the Austin City Limits stage to perform rockabilly hits. He first appeared on the show in 1980. ACL began broadcasting in Dolby Surround, courtesy of Dolby Laboratories, Inc. This was a significant milestone for the show, as it allowed them to provide a higher quality audio experience for their viewers. In 1990, Budweiser ended its underwriting sponsorship of Austin City Limits. However, the show continued to be funded by Public Television Stations. In later episodes of this season, the credits changed from "Public Television Stations" to "Viewers Like You." The words "Viewers Like" faded in, and the word "you" lingered. Season 15 of Austin City Limits featured performances by George Jones, Carl Perkins, Marcia Ball, Beausoleil, Gary Morris, Mary Chapin Carpenter, Kathy Mattea, Tish Hinojosa, Waylon Jennings, Marty Stuart, Stevie Ray Vaughan & Double Trouble, W.C. Clark Blues Revue, The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band with John Denver and Friends: Will the Circle Be Unbroken, Lyle Lovett and His Large Band, Michelle Shocked, Strength in Numbers, Lucinda Williams, Guy Clark, Garth Brooks, Shenandoah, James McMurtry, Sweethearts of the Rodeo, Lorrie Morgan, and Steve Wariner. During this season, TNN launched a spinoff of Austin City Limits called The Texas Connection. It aired for four seasons, from 1990 to 1994.👍

Austin City Limits began as a local program on October 17, 1974. The pilot episode featured Willie Nelson and The Family Band performing country hits. The show was taped at KLRN in San Antonio and Austin, Texas. The pilot episode of Austin City Limits featuring Willie Nelson aired on 34 PBS stations nationwide on March 22, 1975. Bill Arhos had pitched the pilot as part of a PBS pledge drive, and said "Why don't we do a music show? I've got the perfect title." Paul Bosner was driving back to Dallas, Texas when he saw an Austin City Limits sign. That sign inspired Bill Arhos to come up with the idea for a live music program on public television. After the pilot episode of Austin City Limits was complete, the show went national during Season 1. On January 3, 1976, the first episode of Austin City Limits aired, featuring Asleep at the Wheel and members of Bob Wills' Texas Playboys. Austin City Limits was submitted to its national PBS distributor, KLRN in San Antonio and Austin, Texas, which is part of the Southwest Texas Public Broadcasting Council. The first season of Austin City Limits aired in 1976. It consisted of 13 one-hour episodes, including the pilot episode with Willie Nelson. Season 1 of Austin City Limits featured a wide variety of musical artists, including Asleep at the Wheel, Bob Wills' Texas Playboys, Rusty Wier, Townes Van Zandt, Clifton Chenier, Flaco Jimenez and his Conjunto and Ry Cooder, Doug Sahm, Alvin Crow and The Pleasant Valley Boys, Steve Fromholz, B.W. Stevenson, Bobby Bridger, Wheatfield, Balcones Fault, Greezy Wheels, Marcia Ball, The Charlie Daniels Band, Jerry Jeff Walker, and The Lost Gonzo Band. Producer Paul Bosner ran the soundcheck at the beginning of the show. He used the audio from the soundcheck to accompany each episode's two-minute opening sequence. The montage opens with shots of the countryside lingering on the Austin City Limits sign. Then it shifts to shots of local nightclubs and finally to a shot of the empty stage. Bruce Scafe, Paul Bosner, and Augie Kymmel designed and built the set for Austin City Limits. The set featured a black stage backdrop with colored mats, a stage floor with audience seats, and a view of the studio audience way behind the performer. The same shot of the empty stage was also used for the closing credits.👍
