If the engine doesn't blow up when that compression release breaks, people on the internet say you can just leave the pieces sit down inside the bottom of the engine and remove the air cleaner, block the intake with your hand after rotating the engine backwards, hit the starter, and the lack of air in the cylinder will allow the engine to rotate fast enough that it will start & run. Then you put the air cleaner back on and mow. That is what I will try after mine breaks.
@billsimpson604 its surprisingly easy to replace the part. I do however completely understand if theres no desire to go through taking everything apart and putting all back together. Me personally i would probably lose sleep over the parts just laying loose on the inside of the engine tho lol
Yeah. I have had a little trouble finding some o.e.m replacements for this one and its maybe 10 years old or something. Currently fighting with myself on weather or not to keep fixing stuff on it or just get something new
Its taking me a little longer then i thought it would. But still im looking forward to being able to tinker around on it. Maybe even do a little upgrade on some stuff
Maybee you can pour some 2 stroke mix down the spark plug holes let it sit n try too hand turn the motor loose. seafoam something or if it is easy too get too the top of the pistons knock them loose.
Im sure I'll tinker a bit with the old engine, I'll definitely see if some seafoam or something can unstuck it. Got my eyes on a replacement thats got some more horses
Oh, but for the cost of a 10 cent washer. Mine was the choke lever nut and washer vibrating off and I found the nut in my reed valve.The washer is pinning my piston to the cylinder so I haven't taken it apart.Was given the 100cc.1 of these days I'll get the 47mm apart and put the steel sleeved cylinder on it. HF has plenty of motors cheaper than a new tractor.
Im happy thay when i dug in to the bike motor that is was just a washer that had the magneto stuck. I got my eyes on a 100cc 4 stroke for the bike. And I'm hopefully goin to pick up a 22hp v-twin for the craftsman.
DOHC eve I was going to say take off the magneto cover probably something messed up when pull start did and to bad your not my neighbor I have a old great neck lawnmower with a good engine she likes eating 60 dollar belts
Thanks for stopping in mike. Yeah i probably should have started at the magneto. I got my eye on a 100cc 4 stroke for the 4A. And i think i found a 22hp v-twin for the craftsman. Kinda exited for the engine swop on that
Definitely so. I got a new one ordered and on the way. Might look into whether or not there is a version that made from stronger material. And not that soft cast alloy stuff.
I think it'll all look better once I get stuff cleaned up and painted. Fingers crossed at least. Worse case I'll cut the pointy bit off, they should look ok for sure then.

All that fun.Yay. That was an odd looking 'steering unit'.I've never seen a corkscrew style. I like those blades for mulching. They really do a good job.
That steering box thing is definitely something I've never ran across before. It looks really simple tho, and I haven't had a chance to use the blades yet. Looking forward to the next mow so I can see how they work out
