We are 2 Americans and 1 Carolina Dog who have moved from the USA to Belize. This channel is about our decisions, processes, and our adventures on this new chapter of our lives.
@@GF-id2gw We did not say that Belize is purgatory. If you watch the entire video you will see that we are pointing out a few things that some people would not like. Belize is not for everyone and we wanted to make sure we present the good and bad side of living here. We love Belize and and look forward to living here many years.
As a Belizean I am getting tiered of Americans relocating to Belize and expecting to find Walmarts and the like here. Belize is what it is, it's not American. Just deal with it😅
@@iveylynn7581 Each person is different on travel with baby. The main issue may be the restrooms; I do not remember seeing any diaper changing stations or tables. All the restrooms we used on the road (even at large gas stations) had no toilet paper, no toilet seats, no soap, and no paper towels. That may be a problem for you for might not be. It would be a 4 day drive (do not drive at night) so that may be stressful for baby and you.
@@JameyPolanco We live in a small village. We know that you can find more supplies and goods living in the larger cities. We love the small community and its people!
They were probably drug enforcement cops. It is normal for them to cover their face for their protection. They do the same thing in the US. I will be traveling to belize from Alberta with a trailer and our belongings in the winter of 2025. I worry about the theft of the trailer and truck as much in the US as Mexico.
Sooo.... I looked up the word "purgatory" and found this. 1. "An intermediate state after death for expiatory purification."2.A place or state of temporary suffering of misery.-Webster Then I found "Intermediate state after physical death for purifying or purging a soul"-Wikipedia Then I found- 3. any condition or place of temporary punishment, suffering, expiation, or the like. So my question is-If you think so horrible of Belize and their processes, why have you stayed there? I love Belize. Island life is what it is. That's what makes it so beautiful. Not purgatory at all-just easy life and simple living. Perhaps instead of trying to change things, judge or complain-more try to understand. Belize is a beautiful place with beautiful people. Also, you said that you are waiting 6 weeks for a document. Maybe try email. Hope that you continue to enjoy your two month plus stay in Belize-hopefully you may try to see things differently.....or in a better light. Best-
@@TeresaAnkhMind We love Belize (see our video 10 things that make Belize Paradise). We wanted to present both sides to living in Belize. While Belize suits us just fine, it is not for everyone. If someone is considering living in another country they should go into it with open eyes which is what we tried to covey through our video. We don’t want to change Belize and we don’t want to complain about living here. We are enjoying living here very much.
@@2gringosandadingo So happy to hear that! Using the word "Purgatory" isn't a true representation of Belize though and sounds very harsh, especially since you love it there so much. It could deter people from going to Belize, when Belize thrives off of tourism. I would just hope that you'd rather help support Belize, rather than not. Hope that you guys continue to enjoy stay. Best
Great video - we are retiring to Ambergris Caye in 10 days! We lived overseas for a couple decades, so we know it'll be challenging, but fun. Watched both your videos of pros/cons and agree with them all... although 'no shopping' actually sounds good to me. The 'taxes' issue is so very important, most retirees to other countries don't take the 'no taxation on overseas income' benefit very seriously until they are stuck with a tax bill for 35% of every dollar they bring into the country even though they've 'already paid taxes on it'. Are you still feeling like you made the right choice?
Balanced view on everyday items one will encounter. They present both the down and upside on each topic - which will as they say - depend on your personal attitude on each item. Good info to know. Thank you!
Friends of ours live in Maya Beach and they order beef from a local farmer/rancher. I’ll ask them for the contact information if you’re interested. Our friends also build and sell smokers if you need one. We’ll definitely be buying a smoker from them when we move down. 🥩😋
@@cindywine4660 Sorry that Queen’s vocalization upsets your dogs. Queen, like most Carolina Dogs, is very vocal and has many different voices that she likes to share with the audience sometimes. We do the best we can by allowing her to participate in the videos; some videos she is very quiet, other videos she has something to say!
Life goals! Eventually we will be there, we have a little place near the Placencia Lagoon that we are renovating a few months a year but want to be 50/50 eventually
@@2gringosandadingo My wife and I have been planning our route. I was wondering if you had any recommendations for highways/roads to use traveling through Mexico. In your video's you and your husband have allot of first hand knowledge. Also, what would be the safest places to spend the night as we do not want to drive after dark in Mexico. Thank you so much for all of the information you provide in your videos! Regards, Marc
@@marcjohnson4286 In our video “The Dingo picks a route” you can see a graphic of the route. Mainly took Toll road 57 most of the way. We used Eagle Pass to cross (considered safe and easy). Head toward Monterrey, San Luis Potosí, go around Mexico City towards Puebla, Villahermosa, then Chetumal. Cross Northern Belize border (St. Elena). DO NOT drive in Mexico after dark.
@@PicardCapt1 I was a native Houstonian; been through many storms. I truly believe we will experience fewer tropical storms here in Belize and if we stayed in the Houston area.
Sorry for another silly question. How is the taxes collected? Do you pay there at the border? Credit card? Cash? You have 14 days to register the vehicle once you cross, is that correct? Thankyou for your response.
@@wendyquillan122 Belize customs tax can be paid by cash (US dollars or Belize dollars) or by credit card. Cash is usually better as there are fees sometimes associated with using a credit card and the fact that many times the network is down and the credit card machine or terminal will not work. I can’t tell you how much the taxes will be as too many factors such as it sometimes just depends on who is working at the border station on any particular day.
How did you decide which customs broker to use? Did you start that process in Texas or Mexico? We're planning on driving from Canada to Belize. Your videos have been very helpful. Thankyou.
@@wendyquillan122 I joined several Facebook groups such as Belize Expats, Moving to Belize, and similar and researched within those groups for recommendations for custom brokers. I then contacted several via email or messenger to see what their process was and what to expect. I did this research while still in Texas and decided on a broker before we started our drive to Belize. Thanks for watching our videos!
BELIZE IS MY HOME I WAS BORN THERE IN 65' LEFT TO THE STATES IN 71' NEVER BEEN BACK BUT WILL RETURN. MY COUSIN LIVES THERE HE OWNS THE JUICE DIVE ON THE KEYS HE IS ALSO FROM THE STATES
My wife and I are hopefully selling our houses and 99% of our stuff. It all hit me two years ago that the stuff is owning us, just done. Think all we're bringing is our fur kids, tvs, computers, bed, and my theater room.
We have several videos on driving down to Belize; picking a route, venturing into Mexico (3 parts), crossing the Belize border, etc. Look at those videos and I think several of your questions may be answered! Thanks for watching and best of luck to you and hope to see you in Belize sometime!
We received about the same reaction when we said we are seriously looking at a move to Belize 🇧🇿. We will be driving down as well, so I really want to hear y’all’s opinion of that.
You are right that we have not visited all parts of Belize as of yet. We were commenting on what was available in our area. We look forward to exploring all of Belize and finding various places we can source the items we want. We appreciate you letting us know we can find fresh meat in OW; thanks for watching.
How are they contending with the sargassum situation? (Problem? Crisis?) It seems like that would wreck the economy if they can't get a handle on it. Which months of the year does it hit Belize?
We have moved down to Belize recently (2024) so we do not know to what extent the sargassum will affect our area of Placencia. So far, it has not been too bad and many resorts do an excellent job of cleaning it up daily. We have visited Belize many times and never really had an issue with sargassum as of yet.
Thanks for making the videos and sharing your story. We are also slimming down on our material possessions and I agree it does feel right to let the clutter go. I think its a an affliction of the Western world to accrue material things. But all they do is distract and keep us from the really important things in life.
We should have stated that we have yet to locate where they sell fresh meat. We are looking forward to learning more about where to source various products. Thanks for watching!
We did not do the QRP program. It was available but it takes several months to apply and get approved and had other stipulations so we decided not to go that route.
I visited Belize 50 years ago and it seems not much has changed. In Belize city I visited some people in their homes which were very simple, bare 2x4 walls inside but nicely painted and very clean. People lived on the second floor because of the hurricanes.
Y'all are awesome. Thank you sharing the good experience crossing the Belize border and getting a very good deal in inporting your vehicle. It was the best decision you guys did on researching for a customs broker 😊😊
