Have you tried using anything Velcro to that particular carpet? If so do they hold strong? You did such a great job on yours. I have my topper off truck in shop and about to start this project. I’m glad I didn’t start using the almost black in color speaker carpet I have. I had been looking for this color gray to match rest of truck. Looks like my Menards has this carpet and about to figure out how much to get from there and the cuts if they can do that too But yeah. Was wondering before I buy about the Velcro bonding with it.? Thank you sir
My Dremel is the absolute base model. Nothing fancy. I think it was like $70? BUT, check for a store brand or other cheaper option. I think Menards sells a "rotary tool" which works the same way for $20-30.
Remember, when you are putting in the replacement gear, that the plastic gear slides down on the spindle but should NOT be pushed all the way in. You want to leave a bit of space.
Good Luck with your channel son, I joined the early members....always good to talk about where you are from, the weather on that day and what your goals are....All the Best!
Wow Jon, thank you so much! I appreciate the well wishes and that you took the time to write this comment. All the best to you as well! I hope you've had a great day!
GREAT VIDEO! You did a great job. Most toppers (like mine) only have just the carpet. I also installed a BedRug brand bed liner. It is a very special rug that contours to the groves on the truck floor and keeps it perfectly smooth and flat. I have not done the Reflectx mod yet.
Wait so you don't have to cut it or take the dash out? Mine just broke yesterday. Tested the actuator and it still works but I have it on excellent authority the blend door isn't moving
Question: would a spray foam have filled in those small gaps, in lieu of or in addition to the tape? Especially if you cover it with carpeting after. Planning mine…
Hmmm. I suppose it could. Honestly it would probably give better insulation than mine too, since the gaps would be filled instead of just covered with a thin layer of tape. I'd be curious to see/hear how it comes out if you do it with foam!
Thank you Michael! Originally I was thinking about using magnets, but realized they wouldn't be nearly strong enough. Adhesive crossed my mind too, but it probably would have melted in the heat. I appreciate the compliment, and you taking the time to watch my video!
Thanks Frodo! Not the most exciting video I've made of this build, but it's part of the process! I'm pretty sure I've covered most of the in-progress videos, so the next one will be taking it camping!
Yes, for sure it would have! I'll be completely honest, I don't know why I didn't. I guess I was thinking that it was somehow easier with the topper on? Thanks! I'm pretty happy with it, even if my method could use some work!
