It is very hard race cause they start you on a small road with way to many people in the race. I was out in the grass and even when I got on the road I was slipping on Gatorade. (especially on uphills). Then the second half is mostly uphill and seen it starts at noon the second half is very hot
Great achivement , Amazing marathon but its not like you started from scratch, you were doing 35 hour weeks of prefessional speed skating, and have ran over 3000 km even before 2024 , your aerobic base was miles and miles ahead of even some advanced runners and you had spent year training in speed skating which uses almost all the same muscles as running, this whole culture of " I did an amazing thing, but im an underdog/I never trained" is toxic for everyday people who train their ass off and dont have 20 years of athletic training/ rediculous high v02 max to begin with. your idea of "really bad shape" is most likely still miles more fitter than the average person
Thanks! And you’re right. Although I touched on that in the video as well. But if you are familiar with speed skating you would know that most skaters are trained in a way that contradicts running in the first place. And yeah; my staring point was probably not super bad. But for me gaining 10 kilos and barely having one workout a week is a bad starting point. I have tried to be transparent with my story on this channel, and I am sorry if it comes off as me not having any sport experience. The 3000 km you are referring to (where did you find that? lol) is also something that I did over more than ten years, with 2023 being a year of up to 90km a week. I still think that the training plan I had and the strategy behind my marathon will work for any runner, regardless of their background. It’s not about the time itself, but about the progress. I think I was a 3.30 to 4.00 marathon runner when I started training for my marathon, based on my first long runs.
@@theformerathlete Thanks for being transparent about it,I saw youre strava to see your kms, just googled you and saw it there. 3.30 /4 marathon is some peoples goal that might take the average runner a few years to get to, so yea you started pretty strong and with a high v02 max id say. It all comes down to what people regard as fast and slow, everyone is individual, and given an average marthon time of around 4.30 you smashed it, good luck in Boston, I hope i qualify some day! lol
@@pauricgrant8700this is def something I’ve realized over the last year. I just saw my starting point, felt like it wasn’t too good and ended up doing a pretty decent marathon. So you’re right! But starting point aside, I think the time I did was more than I could have expected anyways. So I believe the principles of my training would work for me, you and all runners regardless of level. I hope you make it to Boston. It’s an unbelievable feeling getting that acceptance!
Great vid. For your requested feedback, I actually didn’t notice the lower production quality until you mentioned it (although in hindsight the last video was a high production quality). I think it’s great to have a mix. Some of these to keep up consistency and more casual updates and maybe one of the others every so often. I like these though. Also, just qualified myself, 2:49:07. Very excited also. Maybe see you there! Looking forward to following your journey. ~Ben, from Canada 😁
Great stuff, thank you. When it comes to cleaning the sweat in the middle of a run, and based on your experience, what do you reckon works the best? I find myself always putting the glasses away halfway through a long run because I just can’t see anything. And then I’m afraid of scratch the lenses if I try to clean them dry with the T-shirt.
Thanks for watching, Daniel! I usually try to think ahead, and before the sweat even hits the lens I will take my sunglasses off, and wipe of my face a little. But this is also how I decide which ones I like. The ones that I feel get dirty as soon as I start sweating, I probably wont use for that kind of training. I am never worried about my lenses if I clean them with my cotton t shirt. The problem is that most of the tank tops or t shirts I wear when running are not made the same way as an ordinary cotton t shirt, thus it doesn't work very well. I have found that the Sutro Lite doesn't give me as much of a hassle when I sweat a lot. That could obviously just be my face, but I find them to work the best like that.
@@theformerathlete thanks for taking the time to answer. Appreciate it. I have the Flak 2.0. I think I may need to get a different model, perhaps bigger frame again. I used to have the Radar EV ones, but could never get used to the design.
I love the radar line Fits well and does not fog Have 2 original Radar in white and carbon from 2013/14 and 1 orange Radar Lock from 2017. The carbon pair used as by beater pair. I also have a Holbrook from 2019 Have yet to try any other newer models
@@theformerathlete I bought the EV's yesterday, felt fine in store but wore them for about 20 minutes and gave me a migraine. Too much pressure on my bridge of my nose and way too much focal point pressure behind my ears. Very disappointing, I love the lenses though!
What are the best lenses for running? I was looking at trying to get a pair of Oakleys (haven’t decided a model yet) and didn’t know if I should go for the most expensive prizm polarized/photocromatic lenses or just go for some regular ones, I’d need these for track/xc races so the conditions could really very and I don’t want to spend a ton of money on different pairs for different things. Also great vid, will help me pick which model for sure!
It's all preference, but if you want to use them in any situation, photochromic will get you far! I also like the Prizm road, as they can be used in sunlight and when it's not super bright outside. Just keep in mind that photochromic won't really work as sunglasses if you're in a car even though you might have sunlight in the car.
Interesting video! Am looking for running sunglasses, and after trying another brand, I may come back to Oakley. This reminds me that I think I have an old pair of the Pro M Frame stashed away with the yellow lens. Used to love those, need to track them down! Had the original M frame as well in a clear frame, but they broke. Anyway, a few models later and I'm back on the hunt. Thanks for the vid!
Honestly, I just love them. There are a lot of good ones, but the m frame is such a game changer imo. But I also think you’d love the Sutro lite if you liked the m frame!
I tried them and I thought they felt good on. Did not like the design tho. Just too big on my face. Curious to see how it would look with the new lenses I saw them using in the Safe House in the Olympics this year tho
Always wanted to find a Mframe but they got disconnected :( this, I got myself a pair of radar and radarlock Oakley should bring back some of their old mframes
Agree on the quality, its not the best. I've hot some Sutro Lite Photochromic and some Jacket 2 XL, quite flimsy compared to my old E Wires from 1991! 😁✌️
I guess times are changing. But I do think the quality still is good. Just not as good as it used to be. And as with everything else we buy these days, all brand products will be a bit over priced imo
Hello ! Also an @Oakley fan. but my lenses are worn out. But they didn’t change it. They simply offered first a 20% discount and then a 50% discount. I was surprised by this attitude towards a regular customer and fan. The glasses are good, the attitude towards the buyer is very bad. I am disappointed !
This changed when they were bought by an Italian group. Oakley used to be the best on customer service like this, but I guess they have to follow guidelines given by their mother company (I don’t like calling them that). I remember being able to send photos and get new products in the mail based on those. These days it’s not the same
Fuse Lenses sells replacement lenses for many types of popular sunglasses so they might be able to help you out. Customers can get Polarized not polarized, mirror, not mirrored , etc.
@@theformerathleteI enjoyed when you talked about the old ones, maybe I’m just greedy for more Oakley content lol, like tell a story about each of them and what they mean.
Folks should note that they’re paying not only for hardware, but for support and service. I bought a Polar watch last year. Worked great; I liked it. But I lost it, so I ordered another one, same model. The new watch did not work, right out of the box. It would not charge or sync. Polar told me to ship it back, and they would replace it. I shipped it back. They did not replace it. Instead, they shipped back the exact same defective watch. I have since contacted them a dozen times without resolution. On their site “chat” a rep has told me repeatedly that “a specialist” will contact me to resolve this. But nobody from Polar has ever contacted me. I just get automated emails that say, “We are currently experiencing a high amount of contacts, so unfortunately our response time is longer than usually.” Maybe they are swamped with product returns, I don’t know. But it’s been over a month since I first asked for a replacement, and there’s no indication that anyone at Polar is doing anything to address this. Very disappointing. Caveat emptor: It seems Polar has some significant problems with quality control and customer service.
They are going to release a Sutro Lite but in a titanium frame this fall. You should also take a look at M-Experiment, founded by Oakley's creator Jim Jannard and his son. They are releasing some new colors of a very popular frame for their one year anniversary on 7/8. The build quality of their glasses and lenses will remind you of when he used to own Oakley.
thanks! I have looked at the M-Experiment before, but it's been a while. Maybe I have to take a look again! It seems you are almost just as into Oakleys as me?
I’ve been wearing them since the early 90’s and currently have about 85 pairs 😂. About 50 pairs are pre 2006 models before Jim sold the company, I love the older stuff. You should join the Oakley forums if not already. O-review has the most comprehensive database of Oakley products and Oakleyforum has the most active for-sale sections and modding discussions.
Started training for my 1st marathon. With exactly 6 months until race day. Marathons are incredible feats, and it's completely natural to feel drained and frustrated after hitting an injury. Injuries are a temporary hurdle, not a roadblock. But remember, you pushed your body to its limits, and now it deserves quality rest. This temporary hurdle is a chance to focus on neglected areas like strength training and flexibility, potentially making you an even stronger runner. Think of this as an investment in your future runs. While recovery is key, stay connected to the running community for inspiration. Perhaps explore other active pursuits like swimming or yoga. Imagine yourself back on the track, feeling even better than before. Running a marathon is a journey, not just a finish line. Embrace the learning experience, celebrate your accomplishments, and know that even the greatest runners face setbacks. It's your determination that defines you! Goodluck.
Wow. Thank you! Some comments just make you feel good, optimistic and grateful. This was one of those! I really appreciate you taking the time to write such a long comment, as it really had an effect on me. I really liked the "Running a marathon is a journey, not just a finish line"
@@theformerathlete The 13:11 lens has a notch in it in the bridge, so any donor lens would have to be notched to fit the 13:11 frame accordingly. It can be done, lots of lens cutters out there make donor lens for old and current models that don't have many options. A kato lens can be cut to fit the pro mframe and do a homemade 13:11.
@@boboso7238 never thought about that before! I only looked it as impossible to use the m frame lenses on the 13.11. I was happy when I realized I could take the 13.11 lenses and use them for my pro m frames tho
Nice video man! I’ve definitely been on the fence of either buying the 13.11 or the Pro M Frames first so this and your previous video on the 13.11 helped! I know you use Oakley’s for a lot of your physical activity, but do you not like the eye jackets? Those are definitely one of my favorite frames. I don’t know if you’ve seen but the running clothing brand ‘Satisfy’ has been dropping eye jackets collabs, so I’m guessing they could work for running if you wanted to 😅. I personally really like the style. I decided to get the orange Piet x Oakley eye jackets, and they’ve definitely been one of my go to’s lately.
Dude! Thanks for watching and commenting! Honestly, they are so cool. So retro, weird and still cool. I might have to get myself some of those at some point lol. Do you use them for sports? As mentioned in the video, I am a huge fan of bigger lenses for all sweaty sports haha
I'm a hobby runner and I love my Apple Ultra. I think if I were doing more hiking I might pick a Garmin just for battery. But I also know if I need it for a weekend I can put the Apple watch into low power mode and easily make it over the weekend. There's an app called Streamlets which lets you listen to radio on your watch.
Very nice! I know it's a preference with 50 fps because yes it's sports but why not use 24 fps for a more filming look and then slow down some parts you think look good in slow motion?
Thanks for watching, and thanks for commenting! This is all filmed 25 fps! I am not a huge fan of 50 fps unless there is a plan behind that choice. What about this made you think it was 50 fps?
Thanks i actually just bought the sutro lite and i love them. They are just way to light and not as heavy as the radar path. I also did try the hydras but they felt not as durable felt too plasticky on my face like they would break easily and not stay on my face while running... i ended up going with the sutro lite they are good.
