Rule the Game is here to explain the rules for some of the more modern board games around. We try to go into enough details so that you are ready to play your first round after having watched our videos.
I have quite a number of board games and was excited to get this from kickstarter. It was a bit difficult to understand at the beginning, but after a few plays it was rather straight forward and quite enjoyable. Maybe not a game for everyone, but I will be playing this many more times in the future. Also I think the construction and aesthetics of the game is fabulous.
This is exactly how I explains rules to new games to players. Goal or how to win first, then some gameplay, then some hints on what to focus on. Thank you for such a great 'how to video'! Really well done
Been playing this game a lot and, its not great sadly. Not much player interactivity and you spend a lot of the game always feeling like you're scrambling for resources and never quite having enough. Ive been pondering about how to make this game better and i was thinking maybe a deck of cards with bonuses/ perks on them. Each time you photosynthesise you draw a card with various effects that you can play at any time. This would not only make the photosynthesise action less tedious and frustrating but also allow for more strategy and options during your turn. But yeah, the game is missing something. Its kind of plodding, and...boring sadly. Its just a boring game with no tension or excitement. No satisfaction either really. Its like a 5/10 imo
I've only tinkered around with my deluxe copy of it, havent played it with other peeps, only solo. I agree with you, it is quite confusing and hard to come to grips with it. I'm REALLY wanting it to click because its such a gorgeous production, but i have a sinking feeling it's gonna get sold. I also am not totally sold on the iconography. For reference Wingspan is in my Top 5 all time, so i was excited for this (also i'm a gardener so i dig the whole mushroom/N/P/K thing). Maybe ill give it more time. Or make up my own rules (house rule it) 😂 oh man, such a shame, love the chunky wooden tiles.
I am sorry that you also felt this way. I tried to go into the game without any expectations, but it is really hard to do so when you have the previous game(s) in the back of your mind.
Don’t apologize for your thoughts so much. There is nothing wrong with giving your opinion on something, even if it’s negative, as long as it’s done in a respectful way. My copy from Kickstarter STILL hasn’t shipped, and I look forward to seeing if I agree or disagree with you.
Yeah, I realized that, too, after I had taped it and watched it myself. I think it might be related to the fact that the bar has just been set so high with Wingspan. And I really also enjoyed Mariposas more.
Huh, weird, but true, I also have that problem. I need to check where that comes from and make sure that it won't happen again. I apologize. But thank you for pointing it out.
I have gone for having all kinds of trees in my forest before, but I don't do that anymore since I think that it is too much effort for not enough points. I have won by having the largest number of trees many times though. Sometimes so that I can get points from the number of trees but lately also because all of my scoring cards were on the same side of the trees and therefore, I needed all the trees to put down the scoring cards. I have even started using saplings regularly since they have no cost but they still count as a tree and you can use them for your scoring strategies.
Thank you for the clear explanation! I can teach my family now. Or perhaps we will just watch your video together! I skipped the hints section, because I get joy out of discovering gameplay, tactics and strategy. Glad you made it a separate segment.
I wonder why you dont mention the combined (roe, fallow...) deer+wolf strategy. deer allows you to place another deer. you get heaps of point for other cards. roe deer for the color icons, deer for the trees and fallow deer and wolf for other deer. They are usually highly in demand in online games on bga :) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-JO0ClX1r5sQ.html
Don't forget some trees are cheap to place, but you can get a new card for it. So in 1 turn you can place a card and get a new card. Evenso with mushrooms if you get them in the beginning of the game. I don't play for the hase and vox anymore, not for birds anymore, mostly cards under the tree and wolfs and dears and a lot of trees (15+)
I,m glad i found your channel through BGG.This has to be the most detailed and comprehensive explanation of this game there is on YT. I also like it that your channel is bilingual. Allthough I also understand the german language(I,m from the east of the Netherlands)I prefer the English language. Thanks alot, Liked and subscribed!
Thank you so much for this comment. I am always trying to find a balance between going slowly enough for people to follow and not making the videos far too long.
the special trick that scores x2 rules are a bit ambiguous but I read it as only the score for that special trick is doubled not every trick of that colour.
Huh. Interesting. To be honest, I never read it that way but now that you mention it, I totally see the ambiguity, too. Unfortunately, I have not found out which way is actually correct. Thanks for the comment though. Very helpful.
