I saw them at the Sports Palace in Mexico City the first time they set foot on Aztec soil, back in 1992. It was amazing and spectacular. Long live The Cult.
I saw them in Warsaw 2 days ago. I wore my special Indian hat that I had bought ages ago in Indian reservation, out of love for the most beautiful frontman ever. Ian didn"t even notice it, the arrogant bastard. First songs were little less known to me, because I stopped listening to them after Ceremony album, then things started to heat up. I also supported Ian vocally, went unnoticed. But the ending was superb, songs from Dreamtime and Electric were with the same amount of energy as if he was still 29. Ian is beautiful still, an ARTIST, the music hasn:t aged, Ian still the sexiest man alive. Dreamtime could pass as an album recored recently. They still can rock, hope they make it till the end of long tour.
Hi Almar. There is too much filler on the new album,The 3 advance tracks were well chosen, and A Bit on the Side is a fine tune, but I’m not sure = 1 will stay in my CD player beyond another month or so. It’s almost like a bunch of leftover ideas from the inFinite sessions. Come to think of it, there are only 4 songs on inFinite that hold my attention.
Saw them in Berlin last night, and it was amazing. The setlist was exactly the same as you showed, and I liked "Rise" being the second song (one of my favorites). I agree that playing many of the absolute classics very late meant the crowd got a slow start, but the payoff was that the venue went wild by the end of the gig! Sound was fantastic with both vocals and that amazing guitar sound filling the room. The guitar was always clearly audible and just made me feel good. Ian sure had some strange moments here too in between songs, but they gave us Berliners some good compliments (seems that Berlin is a special city to them due to their past). Ian's vocals weren't as strong as one might expect, but his voice was still loud and clear when he belted out the words. All in all a fun night and considering it's my first Cult concert, I've been well entertained.
Great job on this review! The Cult still rocks their asses off! I love this band! I’ve seen them live many, many times over the years & I believe they have weathered many storms & come out victorious! The Cult RULES forever!
Yes I think this is one of those bands that could have thrown in the towel a million times for good but are still out there and apparently this tour is a success because I am getting good feedback on them from multiple cities. Thanks for watching
Looks like a horrible place to see a concert - stage is low and heads and arms blocking views from the floor. Playing a rendition of Edie (Ciao Baby), without the entire band playing is a bad idea. Don't get cute and ruin that awesome song with a vanity version in acoustic. Saw 'Cult' at "House of Blues" in L.A. years ago and they sounded great - and they didn't screw-up 'Edie' playing it in acoustic. Can you imagine Metallica playing 'Enter Sandman' with James & Kirk sitting in chairs, Kirk strumming his acoustic guitar and James singing the verse, "Exit night, enter light...." without electric guitars and drums? Riots would break out! Note to All Rock Bands: Acoustic SUCKS! My rating for this show 4.5/10
ok so you were there as well? I really thought the venue was great, what did you dislike other than the stage being low? I agree on Edie, I would have liked to see that in a full version.
As musician/drummer that is the same age as they are. I will set the record straight i think the band is one of the tightest 3 pieces for generation Z. i listen to their who discography between Escape from The Mind- K.M.F. which that's already 5 albums altogether if you don't Mayday. However, K.M.F. I've ranked it a 7/10. their top three albums to me are Q.O.T.M.S. 9.7/10 Pau's best drumming and wrote the album nearly completely by herself. Error 9.7/10 tie best musicianship, however, could be David Bendeths last album that he may do? XX1 century blood 8.8/10 like a lot of Dani's hard rock solos on here. the only bad album is the first release with E.F.T.M that is a 6/10 just figuring out the basics. Now my main issue with keep me fed is that besides Dan Lancasters and Anton Delosts production i will give them a 10/10 out of. I think Pau's playing is too much on top of the beat which is fine since i think she has perfect timing. She's an award-winning drummer which she deserves. I think what needed to happen is that since slick production since her 10 and 12 toms are pitch too normal high tuning. The mixing I think drowns it out. And also, maybe an idea for a slick production maybe it would by cool if she would add some roto toms or Octobans in the near future along with maybe a China cymbal with rivets, and if Shes really going for all out a second kick drum. I think Dani's guitar ability slowing became a little lacking even with the last two albums with producers helping reeled in her parts since most of songs are in E standard tuning, She's not a bad guitarist or a vocalist either. I think she outshines some of her male dominate counterparts that play lead and sing lead. However, Ale's bass parts are heavy that hold the band together. I think she should get an award for putting up with her older sisters as some of their skills decline. I think live the songs are better although sharks i which Pau would play the prelude part on a Roland sample pad instead of using a computer backing track. But my top three tracks are Sharks, Automatic Sun, and Satisfied, Since there a few splash hits in the verses for color. And again, i like the production though 😁. The worst criticism is the writing. I like the concept of the idea of writing differently. Now i will accept some outside writers. but when look at the writing credits there's a dozen different writers on there. i will accept one or two because of having a better them. With most of the songs completed while on tour. Since Lave and Republic records signed them a major label company just look the rest of this decade their suppose have an album out every other June until their contract is done or if they restructure it, if so i think they need to take more time in writing to get that raw feel, then this album. Unfortunately, it was just announced that Lava/Republic is going to take the promotional side of selling their records. But only Error and Keep Me Fed. So Q.O.T.M.S. XX1 C.B. and E.F.T.M will no longer be in print for English and other languages for CD or Vinyl. good luck finding it those recording if they don't start off on ebay for 400 dollars. Also, the band stated that starting to retire their independent stuff which I'm disappointed about. I understand why for fans that were supported of since their viral video of enter sandman, I've been fan of them since April of this year and my favorite stuff is their independent stuff. Since with age the songs get better. However, i understand why they want to retire the independent albums since they were Technolgy teens and kids when they did those. i think they want a Broder audience and to be grown up and mature looking too. But my Opinion is that Error is still their best album so far on their label with Lava/ Republic. Hopefully their next album i hope they could Andrew Watt as a producer. Or i will bullcrap for a minute because i am getting into producing production/audio engineering for maybe looking at me as one. But however, the industry needs to have someone to a skill what they needed which my guess is that since it's more of a pop overtone album. I think the next album would be something of production such as how Beck does some of his albums. But hey it's all about promoting the band at the end of the day. And the label, publicist(s) and they get say what's good or not. And make past the deadline too. I still think they're a really hard-working band for gen Z so far. i wish they came in Boise Idaho were i live though.
I felt that on this gig I saw he did a good job, I mean I don't know how he was 20-30 years ago but I felt the delivery was pretty solid here in Prague
love the Cult, maybe my favorite alltime band, saw them open for Billy Idol just after the electric album and then 2 more times on the sonic temple tour, great review, and yes Ian Astbury is eccentric as is Billy Duffy, and once again I like your review style
Finally an album that don’t suck! An album where we don’t miss RB one bit…! Fantastic! Wonderful! A Classic Deep Purple sound we want to hear over and over again! Long live Deep Purple!
Thanks a million for watching and taking the time to comment. I gave the concert 8/10 which I think is pretty decent but yes it was not a 10/10 performance. Have a great day
Hey mate, great review. I will definitely go and see them if they extend their tour to home ground, Australia. I did a detailed review for the Rock or Bust shows in Melbourne and my conclusion was the same as yours, even back then. Except that they now have a proper rock drummer and not Chris Slade. How l long for the return of Phil Rudd, pain in the arse that he is. All due respect and admiration to Brian as he is 76 yo but..... Now, if you really want to see the band and Brian at their peak have a look at the show on RU-vid from Japanese telly of them live on the BIB tour of 1981. Be warned if you use this show as a benchmark as its absolutely electric. Cheers, Brad from OZ.
Thanks Brad, will check that gig out. As far as I have heard then Brian has had his ups and downs on this tour though and I get it that with his vocal type it is hard to maintain at this age. I was happy to see them and the gig was fun but yes of course you see these moments where you almost feel sorry for him but on the other hand, this is his choice and he loves being up there and I am happy for him that he does. Thanks for watching
Two great albums and one very respectable third album. Unfortunately, Ian Astbury wanted to be Jim Morrison’s spirit animal more than he wanted to be a rock star and the rest was absolute cringe. Still a decent live show if you ignore Astbury’s ridiculous antics.
@@metalandrockzone Outdoor venue, crazy beer lines, good sound, kind of a quiet crowd. Ian sounded good, Billy was powerful as ever. Ian kind of lost the crowd a few times though in his banter. In the end, they barely played an hour and that was disappointing.
It is often tricky here in this region with the banter, specially the UK artists, I feel the crowd often doesn't get it somehow and then it is a total turn off.
@@metalandrockzone That's exactly what happened. And then he didn't understand their lack of response. I understood him perfectly and knew what he was talking about and it still barely made sense.
@@scott-ryanabt6039 Well he did not make a lot of sense here in Prague with what he said but it didn´t matter as most of the crowd doesnt understand english
Love the Cult. Have made their last 2 Brisbane concerts at Easton’s Hill and can’t wait to see them when they come here again later in 2024 at a different venue in the Valley somewhere.
Saw them this year in Spokane, Washington. Took.my 15 year old son It was his first concert. We were front row right in front of the stage. Ian and Billy were 3 feet from us. It was THE BEST show I've seen. I've been a huge Cult fan for over 30 years and have seen them several times. This show was freaking magical.
Saw them in Belfast. Awesome . Astbury threw a hissy fit and turfed his ear monitors at the sound man. They sounded great. Wish they'd played more Cult stuff, instead of the Death Cult album.
I saw them live on the Electric tour in 1987. It's hard to remember, but I was in love with Ian Astbury (as was every other female Cult fan) I think it was great. Going to see them in Montreal in September (days before my birthday!) and I'm also flying to London for the Roundhouse show, meeting up with my friend from Iceland, and a friend from Manchester. Waiting with impatience!
Oh you have Icelandic friends that like The Cult! I am from Iceland as well... and my sister was in love with Ian as you rightfully point out, every female fan was!
For me it's a step back to Blackmore era. For the old fans McBride is a better fit, for me not. Morse is soloing much better than McBride. He found the best notes every time and I love the tone of his guitar.
Saw them last saturday in Milan. The concert was amazing. I have actually been surprised by Ian Astbury... He is in great shape and his voice is still powerful, compared to some years ago.. Billy Duffy is always great, one of my favourite guitar players (being myself a guitar player in a Cult tribute band)... My only disappointment is that they didn't play Lil devil
Nice video. Last see The Cult at Brixton Academy in London 2006 iirc. Was superb and Astbury has never been a great singer and it sounds like nothing hasnt changed. But their sound is still superb. They arent playing Lil Devil on this tour? That surprises me. By the way, Coloursound made some good stuff which included Billy Duffy and was sort of the catalyst for the resurgence of The Cult in the 2000s.
Coloursound’s first album wasn’t far short of a masterpiece, absolutely superb but I’m struggling with their second album, just seems a bit rushed and lacks direction 😢
The first time i saw them was 1989. And now 24/7/2024 again. It was the 5th time and it was great. Ians voice , Billys Guitar playing , Sound, Light , fantastic. Hopefully i can see them again.
