I sadly agree with you. It's much worse than Nier: Replicant, which shares some of the flaws you mentioned but I loved regardless as it's way more inspired when it comes to story, character progression, combat and boss designs. I absolutely HATE combat here, it's just the same boring thing over and over again, against the same hordes of enemies that are nothing more than bullet sponges. Each fight, with bosses or enemy hordes, just feels the exact same, you just run in circles holding L1 for 20 minutes, or spam X/L2 to hit and dodge while also running in circles. And this considering I switched to easy mode as I wanted to get rid of enemies as fast as possible to progress through the story, it still took ages to smash enemies down. Long fights are ok only when they're fun, here they are pure boredom. TERRIBLE gameplay, the worst I've ever played, I burned out at the beginning of A2 ark after having to beat the first ark again with 9S and noticing that the new content was even more tedious, with more hordes of more absorbent bullet sponges. Fights just get longer and more dizzying, without ever getting fun. I dropped the game at the first mission of A2 ark and watched the rest on YT, just to discover I made the right choice given the increasing amount of tedious fights and the poor development of the story, that didn't really have so much to say in the end.
sorry but you don't understand the core of the game, for example there's a reason why the enemies look the way they do, the way the story is told is brilliant, no other game has fascinated me as much as NieR Automata, precisely because it breaks with typical conventions and also you don't play it three times but only twice and then the story continues, this isn't a third run but a continuation of the story which gets really brilliant from here on, the graphics are debatable, yes they could look better and if Yoko Taro released a PS5/X Box Series version with graphics like in Stellar Blade, for example, I would buy it again, I also caught up on the original NieR later as a remake and was thrilled by the game and purely in terms of the characters I would prefer that too, but Automata is simply the objectively better game and an absolute masterpiece without question
Question: when is the last time you read a book? I am increasingly convinced the only reason people champion middling narratives found in JRPGs is they don't know any better.
i dont like the game either but your point that you dont like the game because it has smooth 60 ps which makes your ps4 very loud is the dumbest thing i have heard in a year. hahahahah. get a braincell dude
I agree, the combat is so shallow and boring, a mindless button masher, that requires Zero skill and the story wasn't that good, and being forced to play it multiple times was just a drag, if this game didn't had an anime waifu girl. Most people wouldn't care
@@nova_plus4209 Hmmm i didn't hated the story i think 9S downfall was extremely interesting it's not something you see everyday, seeing the Main character getting insane only to end in Misery was shocking, but other than that i don't think I remember anything else, Adam and Eve had a cool boss theme but i didn't like them, they weren't Bad written, they were just decent and like i said having to play the Game multiple times was too much for me i beat the game 100% though and to be fair i think it's a decent game but not a Masterpiece for me, i liked Replicant a little more even though You need to play it several times
I didn`t like Nier due to the aesthetics but I appreciate it`s existence because it has inspired Stellar Blade which I prefer and another game called Phantom Hellcat, so I don`t hate the game but I appreciate it being made. Hack & Sash games have been in the decline over the years but now they are coming back. For anyone that loves hack & slash games, here are some to check out: Yasuke A Lost Descendent Soulstice Valkyrie Elysium Wanted: Dead Etenights Stellar Blade Project DT Project M Lost Soul Aside Phantom Hellcat Arise of Awakener Granblue Fantasy Relink Shred & Tear: Explosive Kajun These are the one I'm interested in, there are a lot more that are out there, H&S games are really fun to play and I'm so glad to see more of them. Shouts out to hack & slash games, they are making a comeback.
I have to agree on the game play part and how the story is conveyed. Could have structured the game better and put more time into the game play, all other weapon options are pointless and give no extra advantage or edge in areas jz extra content for content sake
yeah i like the attractive female protagonist concept like tomb raider and stellarblade, but for nier i just think stellar blade does it better, dont have ps5 tho so
If you ignore the themes and philosophies being explored, the story falls apart if you rub two brain cells together as does the backstory. This is true for _all_ NieR games. I don't think that makes it a bad game, though. As far as gameplay goes, though, NieR: Automata is rightly praised as one of the best.
Even if i've really felt pain by watching your vid, you just have perfectly the right to not like this materpiece. Also, i sincerely think that this game can speak and not speak to the same person according to what step of his life the player is... Just think about the fact that there must be a good reason why so many people consider this game to be a masterpiece. (i"ve savoured the game so much that i did NOT want it to finish, so many emotions / reflections was ripped out of me, i even thought that Yoko Taro has made fun of players by making them feel these things just for some androids, i've hated him and little by little understood the different parts of his message and again tought that he could not be serious... i have felt so much pain but laughed too...) There is so much poetry and philosophy in this game, right down to the smallest details from beginning to end. Maybe because i was playing on PC, i've never felt technical or perf issue, I even saw myself admiring the landscape during my fishing sessions, which were so relaxing, i've even seen myself insulting 9S (but less than Yoko taro 😅) May be it was because i did not wait something great from this game too and i was so shocked after end [E] that i've realised to the very end that indeed i've played / participated to a masterpiece that changed my mind forever. Really tried to find a so deep / consistent (in every little details) / poetic / sad / funny / philosophical (mind blowing)/ nervous and great gameply (thank you platinium games) but still not found it since this game...
its kinda funny, cuz i myself also tend to accentuate on technical things of the game (mechanics, bugs, minor game design flaws etc) without appreciating it for things it does great. i'm not sure if thats something bad, sometimes you don't want to praise smth and turn a blind eye for its inperfections. but nevertheless, Nier is a great game with great story and narrative, and we need to appreciate it for what it does and what it tries to convey.
100% this game fucking blows. The biggest waste of $40 I've ever spent. It's the virtual personification of r/im14andthisisdeep. The world is full of invisible walls, the world is tiny, and the environmental design is uninspiring. Both the story and dialogue are hilariously bad. The combat is kind of fun but repetitive and lacking nuance. The characters are all annoying anime tropes and deserve permanent video game death. The music is cliche, dull, mass-appealing and predictable. If you like this game, you probably like sleeping with your sailor moon body pillow firmly clenched between your legs.
Yeah i agree it is really a semi open world. Numerous invisible walls that destroy the immersion. And kinda short my blind playtrough was 15,2 hours. And i think the combat is actually unbalanced. You get punished way more in close combat than just safely running with the pod. The two last bosses were also bs. The ball who is machinery can only damaged when its dizzy... makes no sense. And Eve was just tedious the two first forms were nothing then i get one shot with his final form because the game punishes me for being too good. 7 level difference... The only thing i can give credit is the fast movement and music. When people call this game masterpiece. The only masterpiece is its OST. Other than that 9/10 game.
@@seamusmcgraw7152 Honestly dude. The music in NieR Replicant and Automata are hands down the best video game music I've ever heard. I think the commenter is just someone who is hard to please. He didn't even like a single thing from the game. How is that possible? Even the games I personally didn't enjoy had stuff that I liked.
agreed the only reason this game is so popular is because of 2b. If it was only that dweeb 9s as the main character no one would care about this gay ass game. Also the combat is mediocre and the story is so shitty, only anime turbo virgins like the shitty story and they even cry to it as well.
