I love these p2 s80 volvos they are beautiful cars a lot of maintenance and money but definitely worth it especially with mine it needs a lot work done on it
JAJAJAJA man ! this is the funniest review for this car !! but, you are right in most of things about the car. It is funny, confortable and still has the Mini DNA but bigger . Thanks man !!
It sounds like the mini and the C4 are each good in their own right. You just need to decide on how you plan on using your “weekend car” and which short comings you are most willing to live with.
Own one and love it. Fun, quick, beautiful, tons of drive modes from eco to dynamic which is pretty raw and you can throw it around corners. Great driver focused car with excellent mpg. Great review.
I was quite surprised by how giddy you were at the prospect of getting to review a FORD Panther Platform series. Lol. My daily driver is a 2010 Mercury Grand Marquis LS. It is Silver Birch in exterior paint and has the dark charcoal leather interior. And the sound of the door closing is 'substantial'. The skin of the exterior door panel is indeed lightweight. But if you were to go to a junkyard and look at the actual doorframe and its design, you can see why these cars were given a ☆☆☆☆☆ rating by the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety). Administration. And these 4.6l V8 engines are not powerhouses by any means. They are all SOHC (Single Over Head Cam) engines. But if they are well maintained, they are very durable, reliable engines as you pointed out. Almost all have the plastic intake manifold which is prone to crack and leak coolant if driven long enough. These cars are fun to drive and easy to modify. And IMO still offer a better ride than most of the newer built offerings from Detroit. There was a reason these autos were used as police cruisers, livery vehicles, and taxis for the past 30+ years. They were not too bad on gas for as big as they were. They were reasonably powered for what they were designed for. And the 4.6l SOHC V8 engine was the most reliable motor ever built by Ford. These cars were also a breeze to work on and designed for daily abuse, use, and misuse. They took a lot, but they gave a lot in return. RIP Panthers🐆.
Listen!!!! A true Corvette person does not put down the older variation just to talk about one that they prefer!!! All Corvettes were perfect for their time. Please don't be a clown🎉!!
I’ve got a 24 230i rear wheel drive only. You’re absolutely right about the ride quality and livability. I’m 71 and the B48 keeps me out of jail but still a blast to drive.
Duntov commented on the ZR1- "Space shuttle nice, but who can afford" What he was driving at was the Corvette in his mind was a sports car that people could afford by using the scale of GM production and volume purchasing power. I am glad Chevrolet took the effort to make this option. But instead of amortizing the engineering/tooling over a longer period of time, they chose to get their money back right out of the gate which ruined sales volume. By the third year of this option, sales numbers collapsed and fortunately Chevrolet turned their attention to upgrading the Gen 1 small block which, in my opinion made a lot more sense than equipping the Corvette with very expensive Lotus engineered engines. In the end, it all worked out and the ZR1 stands on it's own as a very exciting part of the Corvette story.
Well done review! Another good reason for buying a 2 is the fact that the 3 series is WAY too big. The 228 is about the size of the beloved older, smaller 3 series cars. Funny also that people freak out that it's based on a Mini. Back in the day, car companies put out the SAME cars, under different brands (Pontiac, Chevy, Cadilac - Ford, Lincoln, Mercury)!
First off- get rid of the "Lean burn" ignition, put in the stock electronic ignition. With that, you'll have to put a 4-bbl intake & carb, because the factory one feeds into a crude ECU- it controls the ignition. Walker exhaust used to make a Y-pipe that eliminated the pre-cats up near the manifolds, too...the car will run worlds better. If you check the the rear gear tag? Bet you have the 2,2-1 rear gear ratio. A lot of real inexpensive upgrades/improvements for these M-bodies.
I own the same 2024 230i that you're driving. It's my daily driver and what a joy it is to drive! I agreed with everything you said about this very refined quality coupe in this video. Well done review!!
"It's a beautiful beautiful engine, it will have issues down the line" What does this mean? You start out by saying the engine platform is 10 years old - not exactly backing up your conjecture about it having "issues down the line" - then you say it's beautiful, but sour it. What issues will it have "down the line"? Or are you just repeating what you heard other youtubers say?
No, I was just going off of the general consensus and reputation of high tech, high powered BMW M engines, they haven’t been known for reliability or ease of maintenance, like ever. Some have been better than others however
Pretty cool! I would get a full tune up done, maybe a carb rebuild, get the carb tune or see if it’s even the right one, check timing replace fuel filter, oil change to make sure this is running and can be good 👌
This was my first car in 2000! I loved it. Big fluffy velvet seats. Everyone talked about how comfy it was. Never had any problems with it in 4 years. And it absolutely plowed through snow.
My mother had one, They are the best car. I love it. 318 engine was amazing. I drove it 19-25. She hit 2 deer with it. And she sold it . I should have bought it and fixed it.
Sounds like it’s having fuel issues. I would replace the fuel filter, the smog carburetor, and possibly the fuel pump. Probably could use new spark plugs and wires, transmission flush, antifreeze. But overall you have a good start. 👍🏻
Fuel pumps that these cars have are known to break their rubber diaphragm with the alcohol gas we get. Intermittent fuel starvation is a typical sign. A new fuel pump & carb kit with new accelerator pump, not to be confused with the fuel pump, never hurts. The one driver said he was flooring it, but it appears to be starving for gas. The computer these cars use have a feature... for every X minutes of highway speed driving, it leaves the advance higher for the next time the gas is pushed, it will accelerate faster than when it's driven in town. So drive it on a highway, come to a stop light, then accelerate, it should leap off the line if the fuel system is good.
5:17 that sudden jerk into gear is the trans slipping my Lincoln was doing the same thing shuttering at a stop and then jerking into gear like that eventually it started doing that on the highway and now the trans is currently being rebuilt. Hopefully it’s just me jumping the gun but I just experienced those same symptoms
