Hello I'm Michael, Your Emo Best Friend! Never Normal is a place where I talk about Emo, Pop Punk, Punk Rock (You get the idea) Hopefully you enjoy Never Normal and discover some new music.
My thing and i revisted the second album is it doesn't carry the strong core and tight writing. The songs were less personal and more grandiose losing itself and message at times. If the energy or the concept was a bit better the transition wouldnt have been as bad as it was now.
I lived the first couple of years of my life in the neighborhood with the American Football house. I didn't think anything of the house until recently. I don't like Midwest emo, but I'm glad the house and the genre have shed some light on this beautiful region. Whenever I go to Champaign, I always go near the house.
I loveee Daggermouth,BUT,theyre definitley not before FYS for example, nor are they anything similar, they are fast hardcore pop punk but not in the breakdown way, just like street hardcore but really poppy..its not the same breakdowns as ADTR or FYS, FYS at that time was extremely technical while Daggermouth just did very fast alterations of the same chords haha
Damn good review man! I personally very enjoy this album (because ATL is one of my favorite pop punk bands) and I would say it may be my favorite from them. I just can't stand still when I hear all this summer uplifting melodies and warm chills. As for me this album 10/10, but I appreciate your opinion too!
lol bring dan and Matt? At that point let’s get Derek and Scott raynor as well. 3 drummers, two bassists, two guitarists and 4 singers. I mean at the very least I would certainly give that a listen out of pure curiosity haha
I think blink’s biggest problem, and this includes the skiba era, is they never found the right producer to replace Jerry Finn. Neighborhoods is a patch worked mess because it’s just the three of them in different studios with no clear vision. Feldman was one of the most boring and sterile choices they could have made. We already knew what California would sound like before one song was even released. Nine has like 35 producers so it’s all over the place. One more time’s biggest flaw is again the production. Travis isn’t a producer. They need to find and hire a producer to be in charge of them. It’s so very obvious as a fan sitting back and listening. California is at least a cohesive record because feldman was in charge.
I really appreciate you making this video because I’ve been listening to this album now on repeat. Had to go back and try and find this video because otherwise I may have never even heard of this band..
What's a lot more important, though, is what is Chicago anymore? Wait, wgats this? We have an answer! Its Grand to Western to Foster to jump in the lake👎😝🍑💨
If most artists have one song, then Alkaline Trio have half a song. But that half a song is better than most artist's one song. That opener has a little more metal than usual, but it's Alk3, those guys have no problem delivering the same thing since 1998 ❤ love
My picks (in no particular order) Bayside - There Are Worse Things Than Being Alive Bring Me the Horizon - Post Human: Nex Gen Boundaries - Death Is Little More Knocked Loose - You Won't Go Before You're Supposed To Neck Deep - Neck Deep Soft Play - Heavy Jelly The Story So Far - I Want to Disappear Stay Inside - Ferried Away Ogbert the Nerd - What You Want Alkaline Trio - Bood, Hair and Eyeballs
Not a pop-punk band but worth noting how much the Mountain Goats inspired Soupy and turned him into such a strong song writer. I don't think The Wonder Years are the band they are without the Mountain Goats
I HATED chemical romance growing up. I was a crust punk, so that shit to me was weak. But as i got older, Ive gotten alot more into deftones and post hardcore. I get why emo kids didnt like foundations of decay. BBEcause the band has evolved. From what ive learned about them, they never considered themselves emo. So it makes sense the stuff they release now, follows the trend of emo and hardcore bands from the time they were main stream. They all became metal heads, thrash/ hardcore, or post hardcore. Case and point mahumodo and *Shels. IMO, MCR should make a post hardcore album. It would show their maturity and their depature from the emo aesthetic, and into something more mature and respectable. Foundations of decay is probably one of the best post hardcore songs ive ever heard. and i hope their next album, is nothing but shit like that. I like a few of their old songs. But the majority are corny focused on high school drama and shit. Those guys are too old to be creating stuff like that. Shit I would be too old to be making crust punk. Id rather be playing darkwave now or deathmetal. So i think its cool the fans didnt like foundations of decay, cause it means the band will release more mature sounding music, with larger themes, and a more epic direction. Foundations of decay is sick, its the song that got me to finally check the band out. And frankly, I think its sad when 30-40 year old grown ass adults cry because something isnt emo enough. Id be happy the band is making any music. ITs like the difference between old afi and new afi. Alot or people, including me, wish they wuld return to their sing the sorrow, and art of drowning days. Speed up themusic, get darker, and more absstract. But I also realize, those guys are no longer the same kids who made those albums. They have kids, probably grand kids now. Theres literally no reason to go back to that, when the market has changed, the distribution model has changed. Music no longer needs to be marketed for a specific audience. The music, markets itself, and the scene is whoever knows about it. In fact id say there is no more "scenes" Just clusters of audience members who are into what they are into, and theres no real boudaries anymore. I used to limit my musical tastes because of how i wanted to be percieved. But being older, you no longer have a peer group to answer to, to judge you. Had I listened to chemical in high school, I would of been exiled from my hardcore punk band. So yea, Im ready for the chemical post hardcore album. Anyone who doesnt like the song, I invite you to check out more post hardcore. Deftones basically created the sound. Deftones, *shels. These guys are two of my all time favorite post hardcore bands. even though deftones isnt post hardcore, the music inspired that style. So consider it PRoto post hardcore.
Totally a huge era for pop punk! Personally, it's my least favorite era though. I really don't like the production of most of the music from that time. Plus the music itself sounded very simple to me. I like what a lot of the genre started doing in the 2010s by adding a little more advanced music theory so we'd get a wider/subtler range of emotions.
I think I'd like to point out an emo classic ryan ross in-between a fever u can't sweat out and welcome to the sound of pretty odd completely shifted it and everyone was here for it yk?
Don't forget the Pop Songs EP! I think that was a tighter version of what they were doing on Greatest Hits. That's also when Epitaph signed them, and I always wonder how Epitaph felt when they heard what LP2 was going to sound like. I'm pretty sure they were signed because of the sound and the audience reaction of LP1. Personally, I like LP2 the best these days! ❤
Man, thanks for making this video. In 2004 my best friend gave me a Good Charlotte and Simple Plan album for my 13th birthday, my life was forever changed. Fast forward 20 years and I've just seen Simple Plan supported by Boys Like Girls and We The Kings, and it was amazing. I'm so thankful to have been in my youth when this music was at its peak
