The problem I’m having in school is that the rpm I need is always changing depending on the grade I’m driving on. It’s hard to remember all of it. On my study sheet for upshifting I’ve got add on 100 to 200 for uphill. So let’s say 1st to 2nd is 1200 rpm, uphill would be 1400 rpm. 5th to 6th is 1600 rpm, uphill is 1800 rpm. And for going downhill with an upshift I have to take away 200 rpm. So 3rd to 4th is 1400 rpm, downhill I’d take off 200 rpm so it’d be 1200 rpm. That’s for upshifting. For downshifting I’ve got 1200 to 1300 rpm going uphill 1100 rpm on level ground And 1000 rpm going downhill. But wait there’s more, Before my shift going down a grade it says to have my rpm’s at 1000 before my shift, but for gears 1, 2, and 3 have it at 800 rpm for my shift. That’s downshifting going downgrade. Basically all the rpm’s for upshifting and downshifting are all different depending on the grade of the road. Uphill, downhill and level ground. Also on my study sheet it says if I’m at idle then it’s no rev at all for downshifting. So I’m confused as fuck to say the least. And I have to call out everything I’m doing while I’m doing it while I’m trying and try to do all this at the same time. It’s not easy at all.
Are we talking about vintage / classic trucks here ? I know nothing about trucks but i can tell you that farm tractors moved to synchromesh in the 1980s. The old 'crash box ' was fine for fieldwork where you might be in the same gear all day, but totally unsuited for roadwork
I learned double clutching in school, when I started working for a trucking company we were required to learn how to float the gears. They had a problem with new drivers damaging the clutches in the past.
Let me tell you some rookie. If you use if you have to use attack and the clutch to shift gears. Go find yourself another job. Use the clutch once when you first take off never use it again until you stop. If you have to use a tach quit driving.🤷🏽♂️🤷🏽♂️. Second grade two years before you ever touch that clutch. Pitiful. It's all by ear and your foot will tell you when this shift.

Clutch, rev, clutch,shift, left turn signal, hazards, rev, roll down the window, x3 and you got it 🤷♂️ Seriously I don’t understand why you can’t just hold the clutch to shift into gear like a car
