Recently become fascinated with these kind of bikes, like the Raleigh Edge and some of the Grove Innovations bikes, it seems really odd in 2024 that a bike thats designed to go slow and be able to get over things is seen as weird........
I wanted to build up a vintage frameset but after years of searching I just couldn't find a nice frame for a reasonable price. Steel tube suppliers offer better selections than back in the old days which is why I contracted with a frame builder to make me a lugged steel vintage bike. It is going to be more compatible with components in the 10 speed Campagnolo range. Custom building just makes more sense than fixing up something old that may be rusted internally and full of battle scars. I can hardly wait for the builder to get it completed.
Similar to my 1973 Colnago Super, but I don’t just hang it on the wall instead it hits the pavement every week and building mileage as weeks goes by. Still my favorite road bike, lots of praise into this 🚵🏼♂️….👍
This is the 7.2 correct? It’s got the magnesium shock body and I’m trying to make sense of the year of the frame. It’s got iso brackets integrated on the triangle so I’m guessing 2006? Mines a 2004 or 2005 and it has holes for an adapter to run disc brakes
I had a Raleigh International I bought for over $500 new in late 1974 and did short tours on it in WI.....unfortunately I had to sell it years later as a college student because I was three months behind in rent.... one of my bad decisions because of money :)
Great bikes which were a lot of fun to ride. I still have my 1970 Colnago Super. Only slightly different, same color, different rims, slightly different decals, and a different bottom bracket cutout pattern. It’s been hanging in the garage for the last 20 years. I’m currently rebuilding it and looking forward to getting out on it again.
I know where you can get one of these for $200. I guarantee the seller has zero idea of what they have. I'm trying to convince myself that the hour and forty minute drive is worth it. I hate those shifters and that's the only reason I'm on the fence about it. I just want to buy it and preserve it in my collection.
The bike I dreamed about years before I was able to afford dual squish. I've heard people have welded disc brake bosses onto them and one guy had 40,000 miles on his. A really unique cool idea that was one of those "we're not going to copy anyone, we'll blaze our own trail" which is a mountain bike state of mind.
I have your exact bike color and decals, I purchased it from a bike customer. frame only. no fork. I will build it up like your gearing. I have a 1990 ritchey p-21 all original.
Those are beautiful. If I were to make it out there I wouldn’t want you to shut up. I love hearing any and all history and info about bikes, especially from the era of the ones you have. I was able to acquire a very sweet Ocean Blue 1974 Peugeot UO18 Mixte for $100. It’s all original, including the frame pump. The pump unfortunately doesn’t release air, but I’m on the hunt for a replacement gasket, or diaphragm(?).
When you said you can literally ride anything out there, my instant thought was 'really? I can ride a 50lb single-speed beach cruiser out there?' Your next sentence did not disappoint!
I knew when l let go of the Pogliaghi and the Bottechia I had in the 80's, that I'd just replace them someday. Never did, of course, never regret it more than l do right now, after having seen this. Well done sir, well done!
I had a custom Ritchey Team Comp which I ordered from Point Reyes Bikes in 1984 (I think) which used one of the few Tom Ritchey designed Columbus tube sets (not Columbus SP) and it also had black anodized Suntour XC Rollercam brakes front and rear among other custom design touches that I spec'd out.
