A shame this video is sped up so much... really... when you get an explosion of lights like that, you really don't need to speed it up. But I'm curious, what camera / video camera did you use to capture the lights so clearly?
I recorded some footage bewteen 22h00 and 23h00, but there's no precise time for the aurora. This forecast will give you a fairly good idea concerning the lights' location as well as the probability of seeing them in the next 30 minutes. www.swpc.noaa.gov/products/aurora-30-minute-forecast In Iceland you can use the Aurora Forcast, which shows the cloud cover and the predicted level of auroral activity. en.vedur.is/weather/forecasts/aurora/
Hello!! Can someone tell me when it is the right period to travel to Iceland in order to see the aurora borealis??Because I'm planning to travel at September to Iceland, could I be able to see it?
September through to March are the best times to see the lights, But it's all down to luck ( If it's cloudy you won't see much at all ) We went from Oct 31st- Nov 6th & saw them 3 times, But those who went for the 2 weeks before us didn't see the lights - Due to bad weather. If i go again it will be end of Feb/early March & could be Tromso/Norway. Iceland has so much to see & the Aurora is a bonus. Best of luck :)
Yes you can & it will all depend on your budget really as Iceland is very expensive once you're there. There's lot's of tours available ( Cheapest are bus/minibus & the off-road vehicles are more expensive ) For our Northern lights tour we used Time Tours/ Minibus & we got to see the Aurora & our guide was knowledgeable & fun to be with too. For our Golden Circle tour we used an off-road tour company = ££££ but very good not to be packed into a small bus. Our first stop was at the Northern Lights Inn near the Blue Lagoon & then we caught a bus from the lagoon to Reykjavik where we stayed at the Icelandair Marina Hotel. The Northern Lights Inn staff will pick you up from the Keflavik Airport if you stay with them & it's only a 5 minute walk to the Blue Lagoon. There's stunning Waterfalls to see, Geysers, Hot springs, Whale watching trips & Much,Much more !!! You can even drop down into a Volcano :D Iceland is much bigger than i thought it was & i want to return soon.
Lee .Finney I will go with a volunteering project at first ,and I'm planning to stay more afterwards until the end of September. So I thought about I could get a tour on my own by public transport maybe if its possible and stay in hostels in different areas of Iceland so i can see as much as i can.Do you think going with organized tours will be better?or it will be more more expensive?
It will all depend on how much you want to see & do ! e.g - if you want to see or climb onto any of the Volcanoes or Glaciers = You will need a specialist tour operator & that will be expensive. Northern light tours can be better, Because they use technology to find the Aurora & will get you away from the City lights etc Hostels will be your best bet for cheap accommodation, But i'm not sure how many there are around the country. Public transport seems very good too.
thankyou thankyou thankyou for posting this video. We saw this exact light display from Keflavik but it was so awesome and happened so quickly we didn't think to capture it.
Amazing! it's possible to have the original video? maybe even good pictures? we were in Reykjavik and we show her but we didn't have photo... Thanks a lot in advance
Hi there, there's a way actually. In the video description I left a link to the facebook page of the company. Go check the album posted on 2nd March and you'll find a link in the description for downloading the video and pictures of that night. I will take the link down in about 1-2 weeks probably.
