Wow that was brilliant from Colleen. Brought me to tears and pulled at my heartstrings. Wonderful performance. Thanks for sharing as I would never have had the extreme pleasure of seeing this otherwise ♥️
I saw this show at Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne and heard some of Oz's finest talent: Hugh Jackman, Chrissie Amphlett etc., but when Colleen as Peter's mom delivered this song, I realised this is truly what great singing is all about. We, the audience wept, cheered, and felt her love!
It's the Story of Peter Allen. You may remember him singing "When I go to Rio" Dressed quite flamboyantly in a midriff revealing top with frilly sleeves. sitting sideways at the piano and belting it out. A BIG production......Great stuff!! The 'Boy from Oz' is about his life, his marriage to Liza Minnelli, his being Gay, and his eventual death from Aides. A very beautiful story
Almost all of Peter Allens songs are autobiographical and the musical is based on Peter's life. It's about Peter Allen, words and music by Peter Allen. Check Wikipedia for his biography.
WOW! Peter would love this version! Kudo's to Collen Hewitt. Thanks for a great posting, had it not been for you I'd had never heard this one! God can she sing!
Getting a record of THE BOY FROM OZ, i realised that I have been singing a lot of PETER ALLEN songs. I just didn't know that it was his. I knew that it was sung by this artist or that artist. Then all of a sudden, it is there in the life story of PETER ALLEN. Thank you PETER for the gift of your music.
Reminds us to be greatful for the music and the life of Peter Allen. This is one of the many great songs he had written in his life. Peter we are still missing you all these years later.
The Musical The Boy From Oz is based on PeterAllen's life. The ups and the downs and how he left us way to soon. Oz is a referance to Australia not the Wizard Of Oz books or movies. Peter Allen was one of the greatest performers who died way to young and wrote hundreds of wonderful songs. Thank God the new singers of this generation have discovered his music and are singing them again. For as long as the music is sung the writer is never forgotten
