I'm an Indo-Caribbean Hindu that hss lived in Midwest America since I was 7. I also learned about caste in school, not from my family. Caste just isn't a thing for us Trini hindus.
when will Hindus learn to stop distortions and not let them go on for decades?? We use caste and God, for example, and don't stand up when others take and redefine yoga; chakras; kundalini; guru; etc. We have brought up these issues many times to cohna and other organizations with no response.
What have Guru, yoga, chakra have to do w caste policies in the West? Yoga is stripped of its Hindu roots in the West & reduced to physical exercise. Caste is a topic weaponized in the West to abuse Hindus. Has nothing to do w any discrimination problems in India or any other country.

So too we have let others completely redefine many of our sacred Sanskrit/Hindu terms like guru, yoga, etc. These are all highly relevant comparisons. Until we Hindus learn to work together and respect each other, we will continually have to fight against various forms of discrimination.

Hindus never challenged the white man’ definition of Hindus & we are facing the consequences today. But we are fighting back. You may not agree w our approach. That’s ok. Many of us are non Indian Hindus and look at for example what the "white" Hindus have done at the Kaui Hindu monastery. Who is the "we" to which you refer? I applaud the efforts of concerned Hindus to change misperceptions. Oddly, i was pointing out other areas where we need to focus and you dismissed the misuse of those terms. You are confusing Indian issue with Western abuse of immigrants, esp Hindus! Caste is projected only onto Hindus. Never with Islam or Christianity at all while both have & continue to practice serious caste abuse everywhere. Next there’s zero evidence of caste abuse in US or Canada. Hindus in N. America are lauded as law abiding,good citizens/residents! Without evidence, no State/Nation must not profile Hindus to please some other communities who support caste policies! Manu smrithi was given up 2000 years ago. The british bought it back. Its not taught nor followed anywhere. when are Hindus going to put an end to the massive spurious yoga movement? Real yoga is all about the Hindu religion taught by Hindus. And by yoga, we should not be equating yoga to mean what should be called Hatha yoga. And Hatha yoga was never meant to be on display!! So we have hot yoga, beer yoga ad nauseam and few Hindus speak up. Even worse, many Hindus capitulate to this phony yoga stuff. We regularly reach out to Hindu groups including cohna with no response!
