Thanks for this video Cameron. I was just about to buy the PGY Tech Variable filter for my Pocket 3 and I was wondering if it suffered from the dreaded Xing. You have saved me from disappointment with your video, so once again, many thanks and a great review video 🙂

You can adjust these filters to get the "X" out by simply turning them off the center line like you do a larger variable ND filter. The red disc will turn in its frame. At least on the Freewells anyway. I don't have the PGY.
I tried that and it can reduce it but not eliminate it in all situations. On top of that, you then no longer have the ND at your desired strength. I would just prefer hard-stop filters because of the issue.
Hello, I have a problem with portrait mode. when I change the camera orientation, the settings in the application are set correctly but the image is not. help :)
People that hate on Nikon, only do so because they cant take decent photo/video unless the camera does everything for them (looking at Sony bois here). Time for the hate to end. All cameras are amazing these days, just pick one you like and stop hating on everyone else. Nobody looks at the end result and makes a decision based on what camera it was filmed with. Nikon only gets hate in the RU-vid Influencer spaces anyways, there are plenty of folks still using DSLR's happily.
I'm not sure where the potato joke started. I've been hit with jokes about doing video on a Nikon, until they see the image quality. I remember shooting alongside some Canon cameras years ago on my D7100 and the DP was complimentary when he saw the results. I currently use my Z8 and Z9 alongside another DPs RED camera and they match up just fine when graded.
Would it be possible to use the Nikon colours for stills and Red for video? The neutral colours of Nikon has huge appeal with to the European photographers and and public alike. I suppose there is a crash of preference here between The young American filmmakers and the more mature artsy EUROPEAN stills photographers.
So who you gonna pass the potato 🥔 to now ? With the new raptor with global shutter with up to 20 stops of dynamic range it’s kiking ass ! Time to take your potato and make some fries lol
haha, I agree, but it's mostly my export settings not the camera, I wanted to get this video up fast and then realized how muddy it looks, so I've been doing a lot of research on it since this has been posted, my future videos should look better.
@@CameronGravesVideo multiple sites had it as video camera of the year. Gerold undone said goat level camera. I get it, resolution isn’t everything. And the perception in the public eye is Nikons main issue. 🤙 we will see what the future hold’s.
Anyway who's been mocking Nikon for video in the last couple of years is actually objectively stupid. They have had amazing video since they launched the Z6 in 2018, and the Z8 and Z9 are downright astonishing. 8K 60FPS RAW, in camera, and the image looks great. And they do not overheat at all. Just saying
@@CameronGravesVideothe public are sheep and they know Sony because they make tv s and play stations. they are the Amazon of the entertainment world . If your choosing your equipment buy listening to what’s popular then you get what you deserve .
Great question, well for starters for image quality they have the same sensor and processor! so it just comes down to the features you are looking for, if your focus is photo I would probably say the a6400 because it is weather-sealed, and has a built-in flash. However, if you are planning on doing video with it then I would say 100% go with the ZV-e10 it has a lot of great features for video
Too many restrictions with this app. Can only record up to 1024x576. Only use with ONE android device (logs out of other phones). Doesn't share common purchase account (ie via them not each individual app store). Screw that I'll stick with the free Sony app that works perfectly fine for me on A6700 and FX30
Did you set the camera to manual? I didn’t hear you say so or show any settings on screen. Point being, if you are trying to achieve proper motion blur, then you’d want to set your shutter speed and tweak the VND.
Hi, thanks for sharing this interesting video. I'd like to ask you a question. I recently got the Pocket 3 and today I received the FREEWELL ND8/PL filter. It's sad to say that the gimbal no longer folds. He is unable to make a normal turn to close, but the camera remains on its side and no longer protected. Why please? Thank you.
If you are trying to close it with the filter on then there isn't enough clearance for it to close, you have to take the filter off each time. if it's not closing with the filter off then I'm not sure, you may have just gotten a defective pocket 3.
If you look up "variable nd filter x pattern" on Google you can see some more dramatic examples so that you know what you are looking for. In my video at 2:23-2:36 you can really see how part of the sky is much darker than the edges. A good VND should have that evenly throughout the sky. you can also see it pretty easily at 3:00-3:10 and in some shots during the side-by-side. it's more subtle but enough that I don't want to use it. does that help?
I try to avoid vnd for small devices, I have one but for my Sony a7iv I purchased a freewell nd64 with cpl for the pocket 3, makes me think that's gonna be better than vnd, still waiting though When you showed both takes side by side I preferred much more freewells look

@@CameronGravesVideo I think I sort of know what you mean or my monitor is not that great and really not noticeable even after you told me the timestamp. Maybe if the expert want to pixel peek on it but I still can't tell if you didn't tell me about it. Good to know though.
I just bought this through my iPhone and it connects fine, But I cannot unlock the functions on my iPad? Does anybody know how I can switch back and forth if the case is I cannot use it on both of my Apple Products? I cannot find that information anywhere? Thanks
I like the Monitor Plus app features. I bought a paid version and from time to time (4 times from August 8) the paid version becomes unpaid limited. I have to send an email to developers and wait for fixing. Is it me only or other users experience the same problem? One time the developer suggested me to check if I use the proper account (ridiculous), other times they did not answer me, just fixed somehow and the app started to work without any actions from me.😪
Good info about the sony app but that background music is way too loud and distracting. It's really hard to concentrate on what you're saying. Just constructive criticism. About half of the current volume would be much easier to follow along. Otherwise, you're doing great.
Was considering the pgytech to fit my a6700 and either a sigma 24-70 or just a prime (sigma 30mm)... The idea being I want to have a functional little bag to have my camera almost each time I go out. The peak design and wandrd stuff are cool but too expensive... Thanks for this review.
did you get pgytech sling 3l and does it fit? i have a6700 and sigma 18-50mm and that's my only camera and lens so if it fits that bag would be probably for me :)
@@Smokusek unfortunately I'm still waiting for the a6700 to be delivered. And in the meantime I didn't buy anything. I have to keep low profile since my wife didn't really approve the purchase of a new camera.
