I came here to listen to wise and knowledgeable men talk about the transcendental. And then, I was stuck in a video of some men talking about feminism. 🤦♀️ Again. 🤦♀️
Towards the beginning the subject of Truth. Roger said thinking - is looking for the truth and if you take that away all you have left is the - reaching for power and shouting in as high a tone as you can. This is a great way to describe muslims. They have no truth, but their whole lives are brought up on their dogma. So when you watch them in debate, anywhere, they cannot debate, they can only deny the truth that is being spoken and just go to the shouting phase.
Words found this creature and they used him as wisely as they could. He’s set in stone and will outlive us all. Rightly so. Thank you Sir. Roger. Say hi to all of the friends we’ve yet to meet, up at that great party high in the sky. Xxx
Roger Scruton… a dishonest homophobe… took money from Tobacco industry while writing articles about smoking… said it was appropriate to teach children to feel revulsion to homosexuals. What an awful.. disgusting hate peddling hypocrite. Good riddance.
I'm convinced JP is mad. Just look at his face, he is not happy or of sound mind. He looks fraught, anxious, scared even as though the world is about to end. RS has died and his work has left no enduring legacy. Life isn't worth JP's level of intensity. He's a bad role model, probably a shill.
What can be more of a conservative issue than that of the family, the building block of any healthy society? And, of course, that healthy family structure must be that of a mother AND a father, legally married, in order to raise children to ensure the future of that society. Therefore, it's incongruous to have a homosexual, one that is 'married', as Murray is, as a participator in a conversation about the future of conservatism.
May not fit your ideas, but as a committed Christian myself, I value Douglas. In fact, I go further and say that I believe he is God's instrument in this world because he has so much decency in his nature. Isaiah 45 - Cyrus, God’s Instrument
Bet my soul he did not read Foucault last summer, you dont complete Foucault in three months, Madness and civilization isnt the famous five, or jeeves and ...
Good fun this, these two are like an old churchyard. Quaint and funny, but obsolete and anachronistic. Bloody postmodern upstarts ruining Daddys drawing room.
Jordan Peterson is totally OUT OF HIS LANE. He’s entirely CLUELESS about anything transcendent. Stick to RULES and evolutionary rat behaviors JBP, not metaphysics. Yet he’s great at sounding intelligent while he spews BS.
I like the fact you mention attention span. They say on things like RU-vid it’s 1.5 minutes as a maximum. Being an older person and a conservative I like to listen to the whole conversation. It must be very stressful to be frantically listening for 1.5 minutes to things, and then finding the next thing to listen to. That’s probably why the woke era Is malcontented because they don’t listen, they just want the bullet points.
It is a tragic ploy of Silicon Valley and side effect of the schizophrenic fervor of doom scrolling, the next few generations will be sterile creatively
Only just discovered this wonderful thinker ….I am working class and a mechanic I’d love to experience a course such as this …..how does one get to take part
I'm re watching this 3rd or 4th time..in 5y, I'm from US. But enjoy listen to these honest Brits talk. RIP, Sir Scruton..I learned much from you, this talk and many others.
Douglas Murray may not be a physically harmless person. But his mind of clear rational thinking and sharp wit is a weapon few can defend against. Also. Truth waits for those whose eyes are without longing- Ram Dass😊
Conservatism will be dragged kicking and screaming out of obsolescence. The idea that conservative values are tried and tested is absurd. There are a blink of the eye in an evolutionary time scale. Hunter gatherers are more tried and tested than any traditional Christian dogma. There is an argument to be made for incremental change to avoid trauma to the system, but conservatives are stuck in the past. If civilization is to advance, we need to abandon supreme moral authority from fantasy deities. There is no ancient wisdom in any of that crap, only authoritarian rule through successive generations of brainwashing.
I am Brazilian and I sympathize with Roger Scruton, his thinking, his courageous opposition to the radical left and especially his philosophical contribution in the field of art and culture, which is my favorite topic, my greatest interest. On the other hand, I think his aesthetic and civilizational vision is somewhat Eurocentric, I say this because I love Asian art and culture, especially sculptures, paintings and the architecture of temples, monasteries and ruins in countries like India, Nepal, Tibet, Bhutan, Thailand, Cambodia, Burma, Japan and Indonesia. I wish Roger had expanded his horizons beyond Europe
Beautifully presented, Sophie. Having been twice, I hope to repeat the privilege before I'm too decrepit to enjoy Sundy Hill Farm. "Butlins for grown-ups"!
As an aside, who picked those Panton chairs for this talk? No one looks comfortable and especially given who the guest is...but anyhoooooo...I really enjoyed this. Some good humour.
It's amazing how both Sir Roger Scruton and Jordan Peterson have something unique to bring to each question, in a way that just sort of adds to everything
Bravo! It IS encouraging seeing such a positive response to an evening meeting that embraces ideas (instead of slogans), conservatism, antidotes to wokism, with a nice balance hit between the past cultural treasures & future means of celebrating those, and also a balance between looking critically at left vs. right, at Europe vs. the nation, and also at what the 'university' might become. This is a dismal period in America largely b/c of how dominant the Left is there now (the Democrats & the media), and frankly at how lawless and corrupt the Left is becoming. Excellent discussion.
