Finishing this was a painful ordeal. The humor felt like it was written by a drunk 15 year old. B*******s up the behind while fighting and hitting someone with a dildo or just random for the sake of random). The fighting looked so artificial and computermade. The family drama was extremely pretentious, predictable and on the nose. Torturing daughter and hiding her sexuality=bad. NOT torturing daughter and accepting her sexuality=good. NO SHIT! Jarring constant tonal shifts ruining any chance of immersion. A whole slew of underdeveloped plotlines getting abandoned. Constant random bullshit. Making it a plotpoint doesn't make it any less annoying, boring or cringe. There wasn't an original bone in it. It stole everything from the Matrix, the One, every cheesy family drama movie and every random for the sake of random bullshit thing ever made. That this garbage heave won Oscars says everything about the sorry state of modern cinema.

It wasn't something you did consciously, but you made a difference in the introduction between "Asian" and "American". The unfortunate implication being the white guy with the German name must be "the American director"; the Asian guy, not so much. Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert were both born and reared in the U.S. -- Kwan in Massachusetts and Scheinert in Alabama.

Wait, when was Michelle Yeoh not an A-Lister? Good discussion in any case.

Dang, I was "that guy" during the movie. [whispers to my wife during the movie] "That's the original car from Evil Dead." I did enjoy the horror elements of the movie. Made it a lot of fun. But Wanda's whole motive was kinda whack.

The daughter was the standout of the film I originally thought she was the American Gods season two girl but it’s just as good we have two reps and likely she can also sing. She should be a character in euphoria one where rue seeks an alternative source for speed from Stephanie Su as a common user pill popper in between cramming ap exams and late night college prep courses

I think you cannot spoil this movie if you described everything you possibly could about it, because there is something in the experience of it that defies description. For instance: among all the amazing aspects you didn't mention the mind altering sound track. Can't really spoil that. I found it online and still cry at several points. Speaking of which, great job holding back from describing the Waymond scene that brought tears... I cry just thinking about. But I have to applaud your great review because of how spoiler-free it was and still do a fantastic job of describing it accurately. Which makes me eager to hear your spoiler review. I've seen it six times (so far) and see new things each and every time. I'm just searching the RU-vids for reviews to make some sense of how this movie changed my life, and find a sense of community that resonates with the new magical way that I see existence. I'm glad to bump into yours. Virtual hugs and thanks.

you lost me at "there's a lot of asian actors who we wanted to make sure we were pronouncing their names right, but the American director we always forgot..." ... well with the exception of Michelle Yeoh, the other lead Asian actors and the other director, who is asian and named Daniel, are all American. #dobetter

Nice review. I really appreciated how you guys highlighted the homages to other directors. I did find it a bit ironic how you contrasted this movie from Marvel movies though, considering that the movie shares so many actors, stuntmen, producers, cinematographer, and even casting director with Marvel movies.

Out of all the reviews that I viewed so far for this film, you guys are the only that picked up the cinematography to paid homage or influence of other directors. In the scenes where Everyln is a movie star with the smooth, charming and perhaps wealthy version of Raymond in that universe. Clearly that’s In the Mood For Love referenced , also just the theme of “what could of been love” in ITMFL where here Raymond simply said that the happy go lucky version of him enjoying doing taxes and other basic things with her are all that he wanted in their marriage. This while the “I could of been somebody and not a bum” Everyln can’t at the time share the same love for Raymond. Well executed scenes and nice touch for cinemphiles.

I also kept thinking of Scott Pilgrim and the Matrix while watching this movie. The action and humor were great. The story and themes are fairly simple, but it was enjoyable to watch. Definitely see it in a theater so you can be locked in.

"overhype" or "overrated" is criticism of what other people think about the movie and not the movie itself, I always raise a brow when someone says "this movie is overhyped"

All great observations and insights. You two even made me like The Batman a little bit more. I love how realistic the fights felt. While one guy was fighting Batman other guys would try to find an opening to jump in and out number him. Instead of it just being 1:1 the whole time when there's actually a whole crew of bad guys. I too want to see more of this Batman, and I'm really hoping future movies can get away from using the Joker as a villain. It has officially been overdone! What worries me though is that a lot of other Batman villains are either too cartoony or not well known. But, what this movie has shown us is that creating your own interpretation of a villain can work. This Gotham was cool and all, but I feel like we saw very little of it. So, it's hard to compare to the Dark Knight's Gotham. And I did feel the rain was a very excessive. Like, I don't think it rains that much anywhere in the world. I'm kinda surprised there were no mentions of the movie Seven in this review. I felt The Batman took a little too much from Seven. I also felt the Riddler's character was taken a little too much from The Joker story. But again, the movie was good, and the car chase scene was excellent.

Please invite an anti-masker onto your show, cause I must know why they hate wearing a mask so much. Do they not realize that if we all wear masks and respect social distancing that we would actually have more "freedoms" and our economy would improve much sooner?
