My name is Maria Kvilhaug, I am Norwegian, born in 1975, and I am a writer and I talk a lot sometimes, especially about Norse myths. You can check out my website, book and videos for more on that. I am the author of "The Seed of Yggdrasill - Hidden Messages in Old Norse Myths" and so on. I have tried to collect my uploaded videos over the last three-four years in several recent playlists for a better overview. Everybody, regardless of ethnicity, cultural and religious background, skin color, gender, sexual orientation and personal beliefs are welcome in my online realms as long as they do not spread hateful shit against others for having a different gender, orientation, color, ethnicity or political opinions. I make no such separations and my concern is the spiritual lore of our ancestors. Spiritual evolution and superficial separations between people just do not blend.
The first story Odin goes within to talk to the “god” that is a veil. In other words Odin is going within to expose the illusion and become Enlightened. This is why there is a word game. Once you realize the mind and meditation it becomes clear.
It’s the same as the Bible in the sense that you the human must take the self and journey him within raising him or her into a god mind. A master of himself. There are only two types of people. Those within and those without.
Hi Maria. I've been listening to you for over 10 years now. Listening to you helped me understand my own ancestral culture, here in Aotearoa New Zealand. The translation of the names between English and Maori is helping me learn the Maori language.
Greetings from thé Black Sea for You Lady Viking Woman Maria K. I have a question-What do You know about The Wonderful Lady Queen Hel and do you know about a Historical archaeological place conected to Queen Hel?

@@LadyoftheLabyrinth .. du snakkar østnorsk.. og skriv bokmål. Samme som eg skriv nynorsk og snakkar vestnorsk. Takk for arbeidet ditt !!! Har kjøpt bøkene dine, men trist at dei ikkje er skrevet på norsk. Men forstår kvifor.
I'm glad to have rediscovered your channel on my new YT account. I used to watch you like 15+ years ago on my old account back when I was a teenager and had you added on Facebook all those years. Learned a lot from you. Regarding this video, it's very well done; I especially love the energy with which it's presented. I think the Old Norse accent would have been a little harsher, less "dancing", but I assume that's your modern Norwegian accent slightly coming through ;)
Hi Maria! I bought your wonderful book The Seed of Yggdrasil a while ago and you have helped me greatly to research for my own book. I am hoping you can help me solve a puzzle - on page 42 you state that Snorri said that 'she (Freyia) still operates as a temple priestess even to this day, (which would be the 13th century). I have been unable to find the place in the Eddas or Sagas that states this and I would dearly like to know where it is? I have been lucky enough to become friends with Professor Ármann Jakobsson from the University of Iceland, so I wrote to him and he said that he seems to recall this somewhere but doesn't know himself where this statement would be from. So we would both be very pleased if you could solve this for us.😀 Thanks for your marvellous research, writing and videos! Bless bless, Dave ( Australia)
@@LadyoftheLabyrinthHi Maria, thanks for your reply😊 I am reading from the Íslenzk Fornrit edition and the English edition translated by Alison Finlay and Anthony Faulkes (2011) they dont have line numbers in either unfortunately, is this the line you are pointing to in Ch 4 'Dóttir Njarðar var Freyja. Hon var blótgyðja. Hon kenndi fyrst með Ásum seið...'? I find your thinking and theories extremely refreshing and very credible, I love the fact that you have genuine spiritual insight into explaining the mysteries of these texts. That's why I'm really interested in this reference because I find it exciting to think that Freya could've been a real being and still practising in Iceland or Norway in Snorri's time. Cheers!
Thank you so much for doing this video I know you've done it a while ago but I just now found it. I am Scandinavian and Finnish Ugric German Dutch Scottish Orkney and Cathness clan Gunn.
Very interesting and charmingly presented ! But very unconventional, and not very linguistically compparative: for example Fjörgynn being life’s struggle. What about the etymological link to Perkins’s or Latin queries?
These compositions are poeticized histories: every aspect of personification is realistically specific groups of specialized attributes &/of cultural normilization &/or genetic disposition. Examples being the red gold as red haired peoples. Thor's hammer is his shock troops, the head of a giant is the leadership of an army with their elite guardsmen soldiers. I could go on & on with how each seamingly fantasy of poetic epic is actually a linguistically mistaken anthology of real people doing real things, one last, though, shall sufice: the nine realms are the nine established ethnocentricities of geodiverse societies that were/are dominately intetactive as geopolitical realities, of the world.
If you leave out all the parts of mythology that do not fit in with your view, which is to say you must leave out most of it, then it probably makes sense to those who never spent years learning the Old Norse language and decades reading and re-reading the myths in their original language countless times. The jötnar existed before the stars, sun, moon and earth. That is one out of many facts about these cosmic, spiritual beings that you have to censor out in order to force this simplified view of yours onto the myths, rather than actually studying them as they are. If you want to actually learn from the myths you need to humble up and be ready to shed your pet theories over and over.
@@LadyoftheLabyrinth quite cutting in several ways if not belittling although lacking spite, I still wonder if an olive branch of rebuff is even possible: the intention of that first comment was for those whom see pure fantasy in Norse mythology; offering the interpretation of realism should bring value to the more atheistic of our breeds. As for the example you gave for dismissing the corollary of realism for these specifically divine mythologies: the stars are the famous with renown, the sun & moon are the women leaders, also being the immortal lineage of wisdoms invoked as spirit. I must say that my humility for the universal truths of the content you present did not convey.
Hello, this is a really deep explaination of the Norse poems and mythology. It is interesting. Regarding Utgardr i know that the goats of Thor were unable to continue due to the meal with Thialfi and Roskva and not because of Loki. Also how is the Svipdagsmal related to Utgardr? The place to reach in this poem seems to be somewhere in Jotunheimr that we cannot locate and also according to the wiki pages the story is really similar to the Sigurdr saga where he has to save the Valkyrie from the flames and also to the Skirnirsmal where Freyr sends the guy to approach a lady. Beautiful presentation and sharing :)
I had a similar upbringing. Christian-forced childhood, ridiculous "teachings" in America of Old Norse Gods & "Vikings" in childhood school. Then, slowly over time, started unlocking the lies I had been told or the inaccuracies so confidently reinforced in my thoughts by my elders and "authority" figures. And I've been on the journey of exploring the side that was hidden from me, and my life has steadily grown more peaceful. Maria's work will be a staple, on display, anywhere I travel/move, for those who seek answers, now and in lifetimes to come.
Yes, 13 years later and we are still enthralled by your works Maria. You are a treasured addition to our world and your mind and demeanor are as beautiful as your physical presence. Thank you for your contributions.
@@LadyoftheLabyrinth My grandmother spoke old Norse natively. To imply "God" in place of words that meant "Great" or "Good" or some other words is misleading to people and confusing, especially for people who are "Christians" that want to return to their ancestor's culture and return to their roots. We should have never adopted the Latin languages. Well, their genetic memory will reconnect them to our ancestors anyway, but they'll be confused until then.
Thank you! That chicken chuckle😅 Why would there not be goddesses to celebrate the returning spring, it must have been a great feast! If one was Eostre, yes, I think it quite possible. Wasnt there a norse equivalent to this, with all the females being proclaimed as fertility goddesses anyway
That many within norse heathenry have come to celebrate Ostara as a norse holiday is a fabrication from the American branch of norse heathenry that is strongly influenced by Wicca. It was former Wicca followers who in the 1960s and 1970s brought the Wicca wheel of year and introduced it in the American branch of norse heathenry as an norse heathen calendar. This calendar was then spread around the heathen community worldwide. That they also published books about blots, holidays etc. where they claimed that Ostara was a Norse heathen holiday and goddess did not make it better.
