My dad's brother was killed March 3rd, 1945, just weeks before the end of the war as the allies pushed toward Berlin. He is buried at Margraten Cemetery. Thank you to the Dutch people for taking such loving care of our boys. Greetings from America. 🇺🇸
It's a tragedy that foreigners care more about the strangers who perished on their soil, than their own citizens. No surprise that there are almost 40,000 homeless veterans in the U. S. What a disgrace!
I’m former USAF. I’m honored and humbled that nearly 80 years and counting, Margraten Dutch are taking care of our boys. I’ve also heard from a friend that even today if a US soldier is in Netherlands wearing a Third Army patch, his money is useless in Dutch pubs. Thanks.🇺🇸🦅🇳🇱
I'm so grateful to the family that adopted my Uncle's grave. Our families have shared many good times together. We have traveled there many times and the original adopters visited us. The family has kept their adoption going over these many decades. They are blessings in our lives. SSgt Harry F Sherman is my uncle.

I'm weeping, so many of my brothers in arms that gave the ultimate sacrifice.. I honestly feel our fallen soldiers could not have picked a more grateful country worthy of their sacrifice than the people of the Netherlands.. You will always be in the hearts of the American public. I would like to apologize to the friends of America around the world.. It seems like with the democrats in charge of the house senate and presidency they all turned a blind eye on morality..If this was only a different in policy I would not have made this announcement and waited for the election in 2024..But this is all about morality, right from wrong , good from bad... Wat ik mis in de stad is een afbeelding op de plek waar een stadspoort heeft gestaan. Geeft mensen een veel duidelijker beeld wat er gestaan heeft. Waarom wordt er geen stadspoort nagebouwd, op een manier zodat deze meerdere functies heeft. Of verwerk model stadspoorten in moderne architectuur. Hier wordt goed uitlegt waar de Sintpieters poort heeft gestaan. Een plakette van ijzer of een afbeelding van kunststof zou dit nog meer verhelderen.
Helemaal mee eens! Als ik oude foto's zie van de vestingpoorten krijg ik heimwee naar een verleden dat ik niet heb gekend. Ondanks dat veel van deze poorten er niet al te fris meer uit zagen en het uiteraard in onze tijd onhoudbaar zou zijn om via dit soort toegangen de stad in en uit te moeten is het spijtig dat er zoveel is gesloopt en tegenwoordig nog zo slecht te zien is waar deze poorten ooit lagen en hoe de stadsomwalling liep. Op het Ceramique terrein is van het oude Parma bastion op straat aangegeven hoe dit gesitueerd was. Het zou mooi zijn als, daar waar het tenminste kan, in Maastricht iets soortgelijks te zien zou zijn van de oude stadsomwalling en de oude stadspoorten.
