Been very familiar with this album and also a lot of the source material for a long time but i have never put it together in my mind before. Such imaculate production Thank you for this!!
Knownig how MA played with samples - Horance Andy' s sampled could be used for demo purposes and later recreated live with HA as guest in studio. "When the leavee breakes" is a solid base of sample- related dance music. Amazing episode!
YESSS! Finally! A new updated version that isn't just the same seven or so we already know of. Really fucking glad to see the Risingson drums and the Inertia Creeps main sample found, really great job there, though there are still so many still left to find (I'm on the hunt for the sample at around 2:07 in the song Mezzanine, as well as the sort of brass/horn/trumpet? motif thing throughout the song too, and whatever the odd snare is). I'd also like to add that I believe a new sample in the song Mezzanine was found by someone on the Massive Attack reddit, in the song Carrying No Cross by U.K. at around 0:47 Edit: I'd also like to add, though I'm sure that you're well aware of this, but the "I Found a Reason" sample is used twice, one for the vocal sample as shown in this video, but also the "Ba ba ba's" throughout the song are used throughout Risingson too
Thanks a lot for the video. I have additional appreciation for Rising Son for darkening all those joyful reggae samples. Also didn't know that they sampled Purdie's track that is also in Prodigy's Poison...
Brilliant video! "Man Next Door" will always be my favorite MA song and knowing that it's darkly haunting and sinister beauty is created from traces of Led Zep, The Jam and The Cure is absolutely sublime! 😎
Bit unrelated but I'm really loving this reimagining of Mezzanine with different samples and artists /watch?v=8_ghvGU4QZY A great "what could have been" keeping the album fresh for those who have listened to it too any times ;)
Easily one of the best albums of the 90s. Hell, its one of my favourite albums of all time. Someone stole my Mezzanine CD at a party I had, and so I went and brought it again!
Another sleeper is the opening drums on Q and Not U's "Hooray for Humans". To any bedroom producers, you're welcome. May I suggest Wavosaur. Chop samples before you add to your DAW library.
I just filmed/uploaded drum covers of this entire album. I wish I'd seen this video, I could've sampled straight from the source instead of the Mezzanine record. Very cool video!
