Definitely went thru the same things you have. Not sure if this happened for you but as a kid I would try and help clean or organize to make it nice. I would be really excited to show them the clean space and I would get in trouble and punished for cleaning. Crazy mixed messages to give to a young kid. As a teen I remember one memory of cleaning the dining room table so it could be clean and we could eat on it. Again I was excited for my mom to see, I felt cleaning makes people happy but she told me at 16 to leave the house and I was getting kicked out. It's craziness growing up like that as a kid. We also had issues with food being kept way too long. At 18 I working in the food industry and had to get food safe certified to work there. I learned all about food safety and basically designated myself as the fridge cleaner and having to throw food out that was expired by years. And yes same with the dishes.

I never wanted friends to see my house. I always wanted to escape my house, so if I wasn't invited to another friends house, I'd go on long walks in the country, where I lived.

I just saw this video and it eerily matched a big portion of my life, even the part about building the second story. I hope that you are still doing well and thank you for the video.

I can relate to this story. My dad was a hoarder. He kept EVERYTHING. He told me one time that he was" a collecter, not a hoarder." It became embarrassing to have my friends come over.

lo mejor de este review es que muestra todo lo que puede entrar para distintas necesidades y necesitaba la referencia de altura porque mucha gente se queja de que los tirantes son muy cortos, pero la chica de aqui es muy alta :0 buen video!

My parents became hoarders once I moved out. We had to clean up the house so that they could stay in the house. Some meddling person turned them in to the county. I still don't know who turned them in. I am still mad at that person. My parents had lots of other issues. The county ended up stealing their house/family farm. A place that had been in the family for 48 years. I will never get over it. At least my childhood was good. I feel for you and your siblings. Looks like you have a good place now. Thanks for sharing.

My mom is a clean hoarder now that shes older but I understand it's a mental illness for her so i try to be supportive of her. She grew up very poor with an alcoholic father. My father grew up the same but both of his parents drank til they got older. My dad is far from a hoarder and my mom's issues bother him to the point he gets rashes. I am more like my dad. While he is not a minimalist he still wants to get rid of stuff. I love getting rid of stuff but have not yet reached my happy spot with that. I am getting there. I would be happy to live with a backack and a couple boxes of things like bedding and kitchen items. I have moved numerous times and it sucked because of other people's things. The last move I had planned on no furniture but I have stage 4 breast cancer in all my bones now so I have to have recliner and a mattress to be more comfortable. I used to sleep on the floor and I loved it! I'm 62. I also used to live in a camper and loved that life. I had plans to move into a converted van til I got sick. Now I'm in an apt. I'm grateful for the niceties of hot water, bathtub and washer dryer but still carry fond memories of my life before. I enjoyed your video very much! ❤

I know this is like 5 years late but I want you to know how awesome you are. It takes a lot to overcome generational 💩 and it takes a daily practice of intentionality. That and awareness can be exhausting. I grew up with someone with similar tendencies and I try so hard to not 👏🏻be 👏🏻like👏🏻them👏🏻. I remember the small dent feeling after trying to clean up. Kids are not meant to be raised like that. ❤

I am like her parents. I can't seem to get a grasp on things. I will go to sort mail and it ends up on a big pile again. I know I need help, but I am not sure where to find it. I have tried therapy, but it is not specialized enough.

When I was living at my parents house. I invested in my room to finally make it fresh, clean, lots of space and have modern design. Meanwhile My mom room was so filled with stuff that you barely even see the floor. When i moved out I specifically told my mom to not involve my room with her habit. I come back here to visit and I came back with my room full of big boxes of clothes, She changed my nice white bedsheets into dirty smelly ones. I somehow have 3 more TV’s that are old and probably broken. She filled my closet with boxes, luggage and clothes that she hoards. I know I dont live here anymore but It’s just sad to see my room turned from a cozy minimalist room into a storage room. I am so done with this sickness. I have the urge to burn everything right in her face or call a uhaul to get rid everything including the ones in her room but i wont act on that cause apparently it wont help.

I watched this years ago and your story has impacted me so much. I was also raised in hoarding home. I am now 40 and have two kids and I’m really struggling myself to keep up on things. I want to me a minimalist and crave the simple but don’t think I can ever be a minimalist. I do want to recover from intergenerational hoarding and realize it is happening to me. I don’t like how my home is and I work on it and keep trying to make it better. But I have such little time to myself that I get overwhelmed so easily. My heart hurts because I want to do better and feel pretty stuck. I joined your FB group so hopefully that is still active. Thanks for bravely sharing your story!

I hear things in this that make my heart ache-- parents saying that "one day...one day..." Really resonated with me. Piles of stuff in the hallway. Not being able to throw things away, just wanting it to look more organized. Stuff breaking and staying broken, I had firgotten (blocked it out 🤷🏼‍♀️) about that. Being worried about appearance vs. being truly financially stable but less affluent APPEARING. Not wanting others to come over because the house is dirty. Thank you for sharing, friend. 🙏🏻✊🏻

If you believe in reincarnation and evolution theory, how come that one soul that was in one bacteria has developed to billions of souls? How do the souls multiply? Or maybe there is a god who creates all the souls?

💞 Congratulations to you for becoming an emergency room nurse. That's something to be so proud of. It's a lot of hard work. Good for you. The home where I grew up was borderline hoarder. My mom and dad grew up during the Depression and my mom kept *everything.* Think a pantry that you can't step inside because it's totally full of old cottage cheese containers. Full of expired canned food. Full of over a hundred boxes of jello and pudding mixes, so old they had the prices stamped on them in purple ink -- from the early '60s -- 29 cents for a box of Jello. She kept half of her parent's stuff after they died, and inherited the house where my dad's parents lived with all of *their* stuff. My mom didn't get rid of any of their stuff, and was determined to keep all of *our* stuff for us -- my mom had six kids -- so that we'd have it when we wanted it, which we never did. It took four of us still-living siblings a total of eight weeks to clean out my parents' house and barns before we could sell the property. My dad collected stuff too and never got rid of it. I could never have friends over, growing up, either. Tried, once; I was too embarrassed, and my friend left early and never spoke to me afterward. I'm so sorry you grew up that way. My house looks a lot like the room you're sitting in now. I have become a minimalist. When things get a little too "tight" -- too many clothes in the closet, too many dishes in the cupboard -- I am just compelled to go through things and toss. What I learned after cleaning out my parents' house and barns: your kids will not want your stuff. Get rid of it. Use what you use and get rid of the rest. Live today, not for your ancestors and not for future generations who "might want this someday." They don't.

My Mother is a Hoarder. She has 9 siblings and she is the only one that inherited my grandmas trait. She was a hoarder. It is frustrating. She is obsessed with PLASTIC Bins, plastic bags, gift bags, cooking stuff. She has an issue with cleaning as well.

Shout for joy to ALaHYM our strength; Raise a shout to the ALaHYM of YGhQB (Psalm 81:1). // SHLM & HaB (peace & love). The Name of the Creator is Hayah asher Hayah, as what He told Moshah (Exodus 3:14), preserved in the Hebrew Scriptures. There is a curse to the G-o-d name (Isaiah 65:11-12), preserved in the Hebrew Scriptures. All followers of the Messiah are to do the 7 appointed times (Leviticus 23), but no more animal sacrifices, following the Crucifixion of the Messiah. We are now of the order of MLK TSDQ (King, righteous), to Whom ABRaHM tithed. Ask the Messiah to be your personal Savior. He said to him, I am the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me (John 14:6). ...for all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of Hayah (Romans 3:23). The wages for sin is death but the gift of ALaHYM is Everlasting Life through Messiah Yahushgh our Master (Romans 6:23). That if you confess with your mouth the Master Yahushgh and believe in your heart that ALaHYM raised Him from the dead, you shall be saved (Romans 10:9). He Himself is an Atoning Offering for our sins, and not for ours only but also for all the world (1 John 2:2). The Messiah died on the cross, & Resurrected three days later (presenting Himself as First Fruits to the Father). Please ask Him to be your Savior. He is the ONLY way to Everlasting Life.
