Thank you. I'm 66. Never feared aging and have "suddenly" plowed into a ditch of ageism, sadness, loss and overwhelm as I walk my mother to her death. I feel the weight, fear and my unknown future and disappearing in this culture.

What if all I hear is “ I don’t know “ when I ask , “ what will make you feel better ? “ it’s mostly a dead end with my teen as she says I dunno to everything

Johnathan, your gut honesty has touched me. Thank you. I was ripped open not as public as you but as significant to my life. Growth happens as we face adversity. I find myself amazed at how strongly I’ve stood through these storms. Sexuality and faith are difficult to find solutions with.

So grateful for this interview. I got curious about the centering practice, so i googled: "Prentis Hemphill centering practice" and the first thing that came up was a video (IG) where Prentis explains in detail how to do this practice, and they walk you through it 💗it was incredibly helpful to me

Wow. Thank you for this. Jen & Prentis. I appreciated the invite to get this book…I paused the podcast & downloaded your book Prentis. Especially because you read your book. It makes such a huge difference to hear your voice reading “your voice.” 🙏🏼

I'm looking forward to do the same thing. I rarely if ever buy books (i usually go to the library) but Prentis's book I had to have in physical form and so I bought it as a gift for myself and so glad because it is helping me a LOT

Where can I get a transcript of this talk?
@annieo444
@annieo444 Месяц назад
In the gray box under the video ("description box"), click SEE MORE. If you just click on the gray box anyway, it should "expand". Scroll down to the bottom of this section and you'll see "Show Transcript". The transcript will appear in a sidebar to the right of the video. If you need a copy to save, you can highlight it (click and drag over to turn blue)..... Copy (CTRL C) and Paste (CTRL V) into a document (Word, Google, etc).

I don’t know if you’ll see this because I’m watching one month after this posted, but I wanted to let you know this discussion was very important to me. I had a similar experience growing up with an authoritarian father who was seduced by a fundamentalist religious group and my family of origin hit the skids from there. I’m quite a bit older and while I escaped decades ago, I’ve just recently learned some framework and language with which to begin to process my past life. Lingering trauma still affects me greatly and this was very helpful. I just ordered Rift. Thanks so much!

What a beautiful interview. Anne Lamott's book, Small Victories, was a huge help to me after my mother passed away. I've been a fan of hers ever since. What a blessing to be able to interview someone you love and admire and have them be everything you expected and more. Love this!

I like your style of interviewing, you ask questions so many interviewers dont. Like how did Brit on a personal level change, instead just mouthing off the theory. It's so relatable, so few therapists using neuro science and recovery together.. Thank you 😊

The first year I worked in a middle school everyone came by and introduced themselves, welcomed me, sang the praises of the school, and more than one person said “but wait til May!” I thought to myself, “May, what is all this about May?” I shrugged it off and thought it can’t be that bad. Then. . .May came and no further explanation was as needed. Not one single word was needed, I got it! Also in May SO many teachers talked about drinking and I thought to myself “oh my gosh, these are the people teaching my children???!!!” I participated in EVERY Happy Hour possible! SO MANY BEERS IN MAY! SO MANY! Here’s to May! 😭

This was a lovely interview, Jen. I am familiar with James Clear's work. I think what makes his book 'Atomic Habits' so enduring is that it taps into a common thread that belongs to all humans and even animal species. What he has done is to reinforce and to take a deeper look at the true nature of habits. It comes from, as he says, partly from his practical experience, the situations in his life and deep research. It is easily one of my all-time favourite books. I can see why it resonates with millions around the world because he has reminded us of who we are and how we are shaped by our habits. So simple and yet so profound. His success is absolutely well deserved. Kudos to you too Jen for rising above your challenges and difficult situations. You have really done well for yourself and will continue to do so. Keep up the spirit! Lots of love and greetings from India. ❤

For all the women who dont want to use patronomic (dads last name ) naming systems you can always do the Scandinavian naming systems. For example your moms first name +Dottier /datter which means so and so's daughter. That way they ate never forgotten

I believe that extreme anxiety is at the root of codependency, addiction and is likely most Cluster B personality disorders too. Great conversation and have just ordered the book. ❤ and I completely agree with Melody’s perspective on us being here at this time of enormous transition for some greater purpose. What a generous soul she is with her kindness and compliments to Jen.
