@@illinoiscentralrailroadfan6015 Thanks for the info, my experience is on the bigger Marine engines of Super Tankers, where a Generator would be of the size of a diesel locomotive. The ignition will caused by high compression ratio and starting the engine would be done by injecting high pressure compressed air. Service engines like fire pumps, emergency generator would be 4 stroke. Thanks for sharing.
By the covering and uncovering of these ports by piston movement air is sucked in and exhaust is blown out. When this exhaust is passed on the blades of turbocharger turning the compressor impeller mounted on the same Shaft injects extra air into combustion Chamber for extra combustion and this is called turbo charging .
The rocker arm shaft support block nuts get torqued to 300ft/lbs. Crab nuts, 1,800ft/lbs. 2 & 3/4" socket. Ticking noise is most likely either the engine still being cold or froze exhaust valve hydraulic lash adjusters
